Social Groups Moderation

Okay, I'm kind of annoyed at the quality of groups that have been made lately. I hope my post doesn't annoy the creators or their members but I'd just like to point out some groups that should not exist.

Okay... No description. What the hell is this group even about? How did this group get so many members?

- [url-inline="group.php?groupid=188"]Poketopia[/url-inline]
There are already groups dedicated to Pokemon and hacks so I don't think a group for both is necessary.

This group is probably okay except for the fact that the creator can't spell which means most Pikachu fans won't join. :\

There are several other groups which I'm personally against and I won't mention.

Besides the general groups themselves, I see a lot of groups that already exist in MCG which I personally think is stupid and goes against the point of Social Groups in the first place. I think MCG should actually be closed which is something I mentioned when the board was upgraded to 3.7.0 RCwhatever.

I'm just expressing my opinion so if you're against what I'm saying, please say it in a nice manner.

Ok, I'm not trying to be rude, so read all of my post before you go blowing steam out of your ears about me.

You said you were "just expressing your opinion", yes? Well I think that's what groups are for, too. For a handful of people to express a certain thought or emotion. By suggesting we should "close" certain groups, you're also suggesting we take away the right for people to express themselves in that way. So why are you allowed to express yourself in form of a [this] thread, yet they aren't allowed to express themselves in form of [those] groups?

However, having rarely hung out in that section of PC, I know nothing of the rules there. If the rules state that members may not create any groups that have already been created, any pointless/rude/arrogant groups etc, or basically anything that wastes PC's space, then yes! These groups should, by all means, be deleted. But if the rules don't say anything like that, than I doubt there's anything you can do :/

The second is sort of against the rules since duplicate groups aren't exactly allowed. As for the other two, it's common sense that they shouldn't exist especially the first one. If you're going to make a group you might as well give it a description to tell others what it's about right?

I don't think PC really needs them, since we do have the Clubs forums. >.>;;;;

I'd rather keep MCG too but I think the social groups are neat also--I like having my groups and whatnot displayed right in my profile and it's just an interesting feature.

That said, in future, if you see a group that's breaking the rules or isn't "up to par", just send me a PM, okay? As far as I know I'm the only person who's actively pruning the social groups and I do it once every week or two. So just let me know and I'll look into them; it's a lot more discreet than making a public thread and it'll get the job done faster. Can't guarantee I'll get to it right away, but I'll try.

You know, We could always pick some Social Group Moderators out of current staff or even pick some deserving members to do that job if it gets out of hand. I know that with as many members as PC has that pruning all those Social groups can be a pain in the keister.

Wouldn't it be neater to try and make up a hack that would allow you to mark youself as "Joined" with the MCG theads?

Kinda like the "Installed" over at vB.org or something - shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

that would be simple get GARS and use the install/uninstall plugin and just change it to join/leave. Be pretty cool to do it this way I think social groups gets to cluttered for my taste.

I would love a hack like that. Being able to say you're apart of this this and this group and then have it linked in your profile. I think it'd be a lot better (and would clear up a lot of things) if it were that way.
