Who here doesn't like Pokemon Emerald

I think this game was a mistake on Nintendo's part. The only real changes in Pokemon Emerald is the Pokemon animations, the Battle Frontier, and both Team Aqua and Magma committing crimes in the game. I never really enjoyed the Battle Frontier either.
If there are any other differences between Pokemon R/S and Emerald that I missed, they are probably so small and pointless that I forgot about them.

Young Stunna' June 7th, 2008 5:30 PM

Well I for one do not like third-party pokemon games. In my honest opinion, they are just a simple way for Nintendo to attempt to make more money by just taking an old game and throwing in new features. I beleive it was smart on Nintendo's behalf because they probably made quite a few million dollars, but really, the only good third-party game so far has been Pokemon Yellow, simply because Pikachu follows you around and you can get all 3 starters.

So I agree, Emerald SUCKS!

Virtual Chatot June 7th, 2008 6:33 PM

I personally thought Pokemon Emerald was a great addition to the game list. Updated Graphics and an extended storyline, Getting a Johto starter after completing the Hoenn dex was a great little addition as well.

To all you people who were disappointed with Emerald, you knew what you were buying, so I wouldn't be complaining.

JX Valentine June 7th, 2008 6:42 PM

Eh, I kinda liked the battle tents as well (although not so much the Battle Frontier for some reason), but other than that, I didn't like or hate Emerald. Since it's pretty much R/S with a few shiny, new features and the ability to get a few more Pokemon, I really can't say I feel anything other than indifferent towards it.

PokemonGamer119 June 7th, 2008 7:10 PM

I never played Ruby and Sapphire before I just played Emerald so I can't complain about their third-party product.

Move Tutors. Battle Frontier. New pokemon. Better Graphics.

Emphasizing on the move tutors and the Frontier, these have made the most significant contribution to the game by giving a section on competitive battling and widely increasing the movepool of several pokemon.
The Battle Frontier is quite possibly the best area in any Pokemon game just because it is the most challenging and creative part of the game.

El Gofre June 8th, 2008 2:03 AM

Emerald took the shambles of RSE and made it acceptable. I do not hate it, nor do I think it was overtly excellent.

mostwanted468 June 8th, 2008 2:32 AM

Dude emerald was totally worth it You obtain ever legendary hoenn has to offer (apart from the other [email protected])and its probably worth buying this game just for the frontier its a good challenge that will keep me amused for quite a while ive been at the frontier for a month and have only got 2 symbols (But thats because i suck lol)

Azonic June 8th, 2008 4:58 PM

I personally was quite thrilled with Emerald. The Contest Halls were like the Mini Battle Frontiers, and allow you to train yourself to see what the Battle Frontier is really like. I loved the Battle Frontier too. It was much better than the Battle Tower. Emerald had new pokemon, good graphics, way more storyline, tons of new features. I really don't get what is not to like. I'm not saying it is perfect, but it is pretty good for my tastes. I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed the game.

that doesn't seem like a mistake to me. They added a lot of features especially the battle frontier which some people like to call it a new region to get badges

The moving animation was the worse one, even Crystal is better (also better then DP). I hate the moving like zooming, moving from left to right, it really annoys me alot, they are way too simple. Compare to Crystal, the Crystal version is more better. For example like Totodile, Chikorita, Pikachu they have good animation.

Goldie June 9th, 2008 4:00 PM

Yeah, I guess I just don't like Hoenn, and Nintendo making another game with Hoenn in it was a big disappointment for me.

Don't you think that playing the same thing over and over would get old pretty fast? I for one think that a lack of variety is the one reason why the gaming industry sucks so much right now. Take a look at the average FPS, they're all just essentially Halo with different textures. If a game doesn't have enough things that make it unique, there's little point in buying it. You wouldn't be getting your money's worth because you've seen it all before. If no games tried to be stand out from the competition, there would only be one video game in existence. It'd be called Pong.

As for Emerald, I think it would have been a smarter idea to label it as a "collector's edition" as opposed to giving it its own version name. The way they named Yellow, Crystal, and Emerald just seems misleading to me.

homsar June 9th, 2008 6:24 PM

Emerald was twice the game R/S was. It had many more pokemon to capture, new areas to explore including the battle frontier and expanded safari zone. It had improved graphics and expanded gameplay mechanics. I deeper and more interesting plot. More challenging gameplay. After playing through Sapphire and Emerald I can honestly say R/S were shitty compared to Emerald.

Dude, this game rocked me & its a hit with me.

Isaac Gravity June 10th, 2008 7:11 PM

Emerald...? Are you talking about Hoenn? ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT HOENN?!

But seriously... Really don't get why Gen III (outside the rather bland Gen I remakes) get so much unfair hate. The Generation the bulk of this fanbase sitdown and praise like god was nothing but more than a living flaw and it took it's third version to actually make it a half-decent game...

As for me, I love Emerald I actually wrote why in a thread not too long ago so I'll just copy-paste it here if it's alright: "After PKMN Ruby, my faith in the franchise was revitalized due to the games heavy level of fun and replay and moreover, fixing the vast mistakes PKMN G/S/C made and went back to what made Pokemon so great. And well, despite the hype around FR/LG Hoenn still proved to be the most creative of the four regions.

While R/S had a lot after main game while Emerald... There's just so much for the single player to do!

I mean, 1. the story was a huge improvement over R/S by having both teams (Magma and Aqua) to combat, having two of the coolest box art legendaries duke it out as per their rivalry alluded in the previous games.

This leads to: 2. Giving Rayquaza an importance (another cool legendary) to the game outside being some post-game 'mon to catch.

3. Upgraded difficulty. May not say much for some, but if you started from scratch and chose to lack a certain team balance like I did, the Pokemon change-ups and slightly smarter AI would really throw you off and give you a bit more of a fight. (*Note: This is also my answer to the lack of diversity thread, cutting off access to older/stronger 'mons simply promote the newer guys who actually are quite impressive compared their predecessors.)

4. Most important reason of all: VERY HIGH REPLAY VALUE. And compared to previous gens, R/S already beat them out from the start. But Emerald throwing in Gym Leader rematches (how long have we been begging for that), giving Berries more purpose, upgrading Breeding, giving us the ability to explore extra areas so we DON'T HAVE TO trade to get both fossils and certain Pokes AND Battle Frontier (Battle Factory, I'll finish you yet!) alongside some other fun side things, Emerald has got to be the most rewarding (and battle centric) single player game within the Pokemon main games.

Love that game and I'm still playing it!"

Harry Blue5 June 10th, 2008 10:18 PM

Look, Emerald is good game, a cheap remake, but still a good game. If you have both Ruby and Sapphire, then you might want to buy it for it's extra features. Look up it's extra features and think if you'll like them or not.

If you only have either Ruby or Sapphire, you might want it for the extra Pokémon and extra features, check out what Pokémon it has you can't get, and it's extra features, then decide based on that.

If you don't have either Ruby or Sapphire, then: OMG GET EMERALD!!! IT ROXS!!!

NOTE: Okay, my actual advice for the last one is: If you like Pokemon games, you should get it, if you love Hoenn get it, why? Because you missed out on R/S, and Emerald is a mix of them both, with extra features.

Precious Tears June 11th, 2008 6:31 AM

I love Hoen, love the places...
As I said, the thing that I don't like is moving animation, the movement are worse bad Crystal has the better moving animation.

Valarauca June 11th, 2008 8:42 AM

all i can say about emerald is

silver>emerald>crystal

'nuff said about that
