back into pokemon :)
hey guys, this is my first thread :)
i used to have pokemon red and gold when i was younger, but unfortunately lost interest and gave them away. however, im looking to buy another pokemon game, possibly red or gold again, i was wondering... do the original pokemon of red still exist in the 'newer' gold and silver games and which game would you reccomend to start playing again? cheers x |
Yes, all 250ish Pokemon are in Gold/Silver. I would STRONGLY recommend that you start with a second gen game (Gold, Silver, or Crystal). They are easy (Highest level in Johto is 50), long (2 Regions, 16 badges), and are a favorite of many on this forum. If you want to start out with a classic, go with Red or Blue, or if you like more high-end gaming (graphics), then go with Firered and Leafgreen.
Do you have a preference to which you wanted to play? |
If you have or intend to acquire a DS, Diamond or Pearl would be the logical decision.

I recently got back into Pokémon too, and.. ..dude.. ..the nostalgia that the RED/BLUE/YELLOW games give you is unlike any other nostalgia XD (for me at least)
But I agree with BREAKINGBEN, the GOLD/SILVER/CRYSTAL games are longer, have prettier graphics and can also deliver that feeling of nostalgia :3 (if slightly less) |
I'd suggest Crystal; it's got far nicer graphics, has the majority of the Pokemon in Red/Blue as well as the majority of the Pokemon in Gold/Silver, and allows you to essentially play both games - Once you beat the Elite Four, you can explore Kanto (the area from Red/Blue) as well.
Plus, Crystal (and G/S) have shiny Pokemon, forever driving perfectionist collectors insane. |
Yeah I would start off again with maybe Crystal. That will give you a jump start back into the pokemon world XD.
