KKN's Art & Design

This isn't the first time an art thread of mine has been completely whiped from a forum, so I'm used to it. For now, I'm just going to paste these as "folders". I'll eventually set it back up the way I had it before unless the "restoration" does it for me. Click the thumbnails to take you to the respective folders. Optionally, you can click here to see everything (except my scrapbook).

More resources can be found in my scrapbook, as well as more art that I didn't think was worthy enough to put in my main gallery.

Ibuberu June 17th, 2008 5:38 AM

I really <3 the Jumpluff one. You used simplistic colours, and even though on first glance, it looks like a quick drawing, you must be pretty skilled, because I find the shading incredibly pwnsome. Especially the puff balls. For Shaymin in Sky Form, it'd probably look better with a background, but outside of that, again, I love the colouring (: Arceus was definitely well-drawn, and looks really alive in colour, I can tell you put in a lot of effort, keep it up! =D

icycatelf June 17th, 2008 2:09 PM

Thank you! The Jumpluff was done rather quickly (hence the title: Quick Digital Painting). I was actually surprized that the puff balls turned out so nicely.

I plan on making a bacground for the Shaymin. It would be easier if it was transparent PNG, but it's not. I tried the GIF-ify it, but it distorted the colors. I'm going to work with it on GIMP... to see if that can make it a transparent PNG, then I'll work on a background.

Yeah, a lot of effort did go into the Arceus pics. I can't remember how long it took to draw, clean up, and color, but I know I spent a long time on it. It was also hard for me to decide how to color it.

Thanks, again!

UPDATE: Attempted to add a background to Shaymin |CLICK|

MissMegano June 18th, 2008 9:13 AM

Oh, I love it! Shaymin looks just like a pokemon card now! And the evolution of Forretress is really creative. It sticks to the original design just enough to make it look like a pokemon. Seriously, that could be in a game! I'm really impressed by the pokeball, too. The reflection on the ground is amazing!

Thanks! I figured it would look more like a card illustration if I made the background holographic. I'm also glad that you like Towarmorth, the Forretress evo. Thank you for commenting!

It's been a while, but here's a new pic:

(Large Version)

http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb312/uhlone/KW_newcol2.png
(Small Version)

Note, these pictures won't look right on a wide-screen monitor. I have one and it makes them look a little off. The original drawing looks fine.

Glitter Stain July 5th, 2008 9:22 AM

The Sky Form Shaymin is good while simple. The colored Arceus looks plush, and I definitely like it. The Forretress evolution looks more like a human than a Pokemon. It's supposed to be a bagworm's evolution. It's not bad, but it's not very Pokemon-ish. The PokeBall is the best. It looks much like a PokeBall as Nintendo or Game Freak would portray it.

Yeah, I know. The Sky Form Shaymon would have looked more complex if I had used 3+ base shade colors, but I only used 2.

I never thought of the Arceus pic as plush. Heh.

Yeah, but doesn't Jynx look more like a human than a Pokemon? My goal was to make an armored moth, but still keep some of Forretress' characteristics.

Yay PokeBall! I like it too, but I wouldn't call it my favorite. The metallic look on the top was somewhat of an accident, actually. I'm still happy with the turn-out.

Thanks for commenting.

The point of Jynx, Magmar, Electabuzz, Mr. Mime, etc. is to have a humanshape while not having the complete anatomical features of a human. The Forretress evolution's characteristics are too human-like.

I don't see it. To me, it looks nothing like a human. Even if it did, it doesn't have all of the anatomical features of a human. To me, it's almost like a flying armored Jynx with cannon arms. Like Jynx, it has no feet. Like Jynx it has a solid dark skin tone.

xxTragicNightmare July 9th, 2008 5:02 PM

Personally my favorite is the pokeball! It is amazing! haha
I love the coloring. and the WOOSH reflection xD

iRawr-x July 9th, 2008 5:21 PM

Like I said above. :P It might be difficult for me to make a Manaphy in the same style as the PokeBall picture. Sadly, usually if I pull off a really cool style, it's just experimental and I forget how I did it afterwards. I have, however, done a 3D-ish Manaphy illustration: http://kougawolf.deviantart.com/art/Manaphy-Lv-X-78144626
Thanks for commenting.

And I have done a new picture. I stayed up all night, bored, and something told me to work on a Slowking picture...

I think he has a belly ache.

icycatelf July 18th, 2008 3:24 PM

UPDATE: Added new picture, a sketch of my favorite Eeveelution, Leafeon.

EDIT: And I just got finished with a new Shaymin (SF) pic.
http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb312/uhlone/newskymin_sml.png
I don't think it turned out too bad.

moments. July 20th, 2008 12:27 AM

Wow you have serious talent Kouga!
Do you do all your art by hand and paint?
Love you Pokeball one and Arceus and that Slowking is great!
Keep up the great work!

icycatelf July 20th, 2008 3:50 AM

@Kuggles: Thanks. I do my lineart by hand & color digitally. I'm not good at coloring by hand unless it's lightly with colored pencils, but that doesn't show up when I scan it. The PokeBall was done completely digitally, as was the Jumpuff, but the others were drawn by hand, scanned, and colored digitally. Thanks for commenting! :D

moments. July 20th, 2008 3:51 PM

Wow some of the Digital colouring looks like real paint!
Good job!

Belinda July 20th, 2008 4:55 PM

I think the Pokeball is cool awesome work.

Another lover of my PokeBall ^^ Thanks.

Tater Tot July 21st, 2008 7:57 AM

My favorite by far is the Poke'ball. It looks like you could pick it up from the screen and throw it. The shading is so real in it, it really makes it look 3-D. Love it. 10/10.

icycatelf July 21st, 2008 2:44 PM

My ever-so-famous PokeBall... Thanks. I thought it looked pretty real, too.

icycatelf August 8th, 2008 6:09 AM

It's Misty!

Yuoaman August 9th, 2008 6:02 PM

The coloring on that Misty is great Kouga, but my favorite of yours is still that Dittuu!

Kinuchio August 10th, 2008 12:34 AM

Your style is amazing. I'm gonna go ahead and watch you on dA. Looking forward to more great drawings.

ZOMG! I have a style!? XD Thank you!

Yuoaman August 10th, 2008 1:05 PM

I like the Dituu because the design is phenomonal, the coloring is great, and it's so randomly awesome!

And of course you have a style XD

icycatelf August 11th, 2008 12:19 PM

That's nice. ^_^ The coloring style was an older, simple style that I had made in place of Sugi-styled images. It doesn't take long and it's really simple. Thanks.

Yay, style! What is my style? How would you define it.

--- --- ---

New pic added, A Neko from my Oracle Arrivals story. I added a PG-13 rating to it because some may find certain body hair depicted to be inappropriate. Why did I add this hair to the pic? The area just seemed so empty, and something called out to me, telling me to draw it. CLICK ME TO SEE.

In Mystic Legends: A Tale of the Oracle Arrivals, the Nekos (cat people) are the arch foes of the Azmuls (wolf-elves, see my avatar). The Nekos of present time don't play a huge role in the story, but the Nekos of past time did.

Yuoaman August 11th, 2008 10:28 PM

Your style is difficult to describe, it echoes faintly of Sugimori style, except it has a simplicity which just makes them stand out. : D

And that picture is wonderful, and that hair isn't very problematic to me, though some might be offended, and if they do just say it's a weird tattoo! XD

Good luck with your work Kouga!

icycatelf August 12th, 2008 7:57 AM

SIMSUGIPLISTIC STYLE!!! XD

I'm glad you like the pic. The hair doesn't bother me either (if it did, I would have not drawn it), but I can imagine it not settling with some very well. Yeah, a wierd fuzzy tattoo. XD

Thanks.

I tried to make a colored version of the Neko, but it doesn't look quite right... it seems to look better in color without the tail. I'll later re-color it (hair and/or clothes) to see if it looks better. What's your opinion on it?

>CLICK ME TO SEE COL W/ Tail (PG-13).
>CLICK ME TO SEE COL W/O Tail (PG-13).

Yuoaman August 13th, 2008 10:58 AM

The tail doesn't make much of a difference in my opinion, it looks just as good with or without, so it's all up to you. I love the coloring you used though.

icycatelf August 13th, 2008 2:10 PM

Thanks. I may upload it to my DeviantArt account, now.

BTW, today may be a good spriting day, so I'll get working more on your starters & PM them to you.

Yuoaman August 14th, 2008 3:01 PM

Okay, I can't wait to see more of your art!

(BTW Yay!!!)

EDIT: Added sketch of HeavenEarth Version's Pokemon Professor, Airell Hawthorn.

UPDATE: Added new illustration of Magcargo to first post.

icycatelf September 5th, 2008 6:07 PM

Updated first post: Not only are my works made since I created this topic posted, but I have some of my favorite older works included as well. Check them out.

icycatelf September 15th, 2008 8:03 PM

UPDATE: Added new "Kj'kun: Battle Stance" picture to the first pose. I hope you like it.

icycatelf September 20th, 2008 6:18 PM

UPDATE: Doesn't anyone love me anymore? T_T
Anyway, I just added a new "Kj'kun Battle Stance (colored)"
picture to the first post. I also prettified the post a little.

Yuoaman September 20th, 2008 6:24 PM

I duzz!!!

Anyways, your art is amazing, though I think you're a little harsh on yourself, on most pieces you'll say 'I know it's not great.', and variations on that. And you really shouldn't, you are a great artist, and if you let people, I'm sure they will all love your pieces as much as I do.

Also: now is one of those times I wish that I could request... Your Kj'kun pictures are so great!

icycatelf September 20th, 2008 6:35 PM

Yay, there's still someone who loves me! :)

Thanks. It's like my art professor told me; we are harder on our own work than anyone else.

I'm glad you like the new Kj'kun pictures. I'm quite satisfied with them myself.

I worked almost a whole day trying to draw Kj'kun in a battle stance. It was an idea that I had several weeks before that I hadn't been able to draw previously. I kept trying to draw the pose, but it was harder than I had anticipated. I would draw a part that looked alright, but then I would pick it apart, erase it, and try again. I was quite happy with the result.
I worked on & off for hours (almost, maybe more than 3) trying to color it.

icycatelf September 30th, 2008 4:06 PM

UPDATE: Added new Fakemon to first post (Appeel Dragon Form & Levicanth).

lemurkat September 30th, 2008 11:46 PM

You'd make a pretty sweet trading card illustrator! You stick close to the original style, but do it in a skillful manner.

Kat

icycatelf October 1st, 2008 12:15 AM

I wish I could be an illustrator for the TCG, but all I can do for now is illustrate fake cards. T_T

Thanks. :)

KougaWolf, I'm pretty sure I gave you permission to double post when updating without having to wait until your thread drops off the front page, since that's pretty hard what with the activity we're getting in these parts.

You should remember to put that you have my permission your first post so someone else doesn't come along and give you a million infractions for double posting. Or so I don't come along and forget I gave you the okay. xD

icycatelf October 12th, 2008 7:07 PM

Alright. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.

I may eventually sketch them, but I have to wait for my abilities to come back. I haven't been able to draw anything better than an average 9 year-old kid for about 5 days. It's really got me down. T_T

My drawing abilities are still on vacation (have been for a week), so I can't draw worth crap right now. T_T

I did, however, take advantage of this time to try to mimic Hama-chan's style.

icycatelf November 6th, 2008 3:48 PM

Added new Porygon pic. This one has issues:
http://fc58.deviantart.com/fs39/f/2008/360/4/8/Porygon__Huh__by_Karite_Kita_Neko.png
It was an experimental style that didn't turn out great, but I thought had a unique look.

EDIT: Added "Rough Chansey Painting" to the Digital section:

Yuoaman December 29th, 2008 8:37 PM

I actually like the Porygon, it is very original, and the Chansey is very professional looking, good stuff.

Ever heard of or watched/read the Shugo Chara! anime/manga? If you have, then you know what this is supposed to be.
I was inspired to create a Guardian Character of my own, so here's Maneki (Mah-nay-kee) and his egg:

Oh, and let's not forget...

Your hand-drawn sketches are somewhat simple. More practice and greater detail would improve work quality. Though a great start. Your digital media impressed me on some works. They are cute, soft, and are visually appealing. I like them. Overall you're better than alot I've seen and have the potential to be even better.

I really want to become better: that's why I'm taking several college art classes (so far I've only had intro, but I have 2 more art classes next semester).

Thanks. ^^

Thanks for the comment, Summer. I liked those pics to (though they're not my faves).

*no updates...* D:

UPDATE: Added Nekoban Ryo to the Traditional section.

http://fc59.deviantart.com/fs40/f/2009/003/3/c/Sketch__CharaTrans__NekobanRyo_by_Karite_Kita_Neko.png

Inspired by Shugo Chara, Nekoban Ryo (neko + koban + ryo) is the character transformation of my anime-self (see hand/digital section) with Maneki (also see hand/digital section). Keep in mind that this is just a sketch. I'll try to "pretty" it up evenatually.

UPDATE 2: Finally colored it (two versions):

Sketchy:

Clean:

UPDATE 3: ...And a new ID made with it.

Very nice stuff Kouga, it seems that you are getting better and better all the time.

icycatelf January 12th, 2009 4:27 AM

Thanks. :) Hopefully I can keep it up & eventually draw & color better.
Hopefully my 2 art classes this semester (2-D Foundation & Color Foundation) will help with that.

UPDATE: New "Fakemon: Sacresaeb" added to the Traditional section.

[CLICK ME]

This is a Fakemon that I designed for the fangame project "Pokemon Black Onyx Version." It's based on the mythological Chinese creature "Bai Ze." Rather than being a man-devil mixed with a buffalo, this version is more like a wolf and deer mixed with a buffalo. It's an Aether/Psychic type Wise Beast Pokemon (in Black Onyx, Aether refers to a heavenly being). It has an ability, Holy Sight, which reveals the ability of your opponent's Pokemon. Its body appears like the night sky, with the exception of its large helm/ears, tail, and mystic flames (which may be gold).

UPDATE: Added Sacresaeb Colored to the Hand/Digital section.
It still bugs me a bit, but the more I look at it, the more it grows on me.

Sorry I haven't checked here in a while, and I really like the new Fakemon, looks majestic XD

Yuoaman February 21st, 2009 1:26 AM

Pretty nice, a little strange, but still nicely done.
