Ev Training

how do you ev train? I dont understand it

Horyo June 19th, 2008 10:00 PM

I think this belongs somewhere else...?

But anyways, when you EV train you focus on increasing one stat of a pokemon (at a time). You find pokemon that give you those stats and you fight them with the pokemon whose stats you want to increase.

If you want attack stat for a seviper, let''s say, you hunt kricketunes. I believe every EV point is 1/4 of a stat increase? So 4 EV points=1 stat up.

So I think Kricketune gives 2 EV points. If I hunt 2 Kricks then I get 1 increase in attack when I level up.

^The numbers might not be right, but that's the idea.

thats how it pretty much goes.

your trainer your starter. say chimchar. its brave natured, so its +atk. now what you want to do is face off against a bunch of pokes that give atk EVs, such as kricketunes. that'll increase your atk value by 1 more and so forth if you face a good number of them. there are items such as the Power Items or Macho Brace that help you cut the time in half in gaining EVs.

Pokerus is also beneficial. doubles the amount you receive.

I forgot to add: EV training is an annoying time consuming *BLARGH* you get tired of it after the 86th Kricketune and you feel like tossing the game when you run into things you're not looking for.

it's tedious, but the rewards are amazing.

i just go after gyaras. shell out more exp and atk. always go for the wild higher levels, more exp, more EVs to give out

Horyo June 19th, 2008 10:18 PM

^I'm one of those types who likes to "basket" my points and then go woooooooooooow as my Ariados gets like +20 in a stat.

revelp8 June 19th, 2008 10:20 PM

try it on a legendary. +10 in almost every stat. damn!! haha, those are the most fun to train. the exp, oy...dont get me started

Horyo June 19th, 2008 10:21 PM

^You mean fight legendaries...?

Anyways, I should go after gyarados, but I hate going in the water. Getting stung by tentacool is NOT fun :X

revelp8 June 19th, 2008 10:23 PM

nah, i mean training one. the EVs you stack up seem to be a lot more than your usual OU poke. well, thats because, they're legendary! ^.^

Horyo June 19th, 2008 10:24 PM

^I don't tend to use legendaries. I like them as collector's items, but other than that I prefer regular pokemon.

That's because they're usually at higher levels when you get them. My Kyogre gained 69 special attack from level 99 to 100, but I could probably beat that, given one with a positive nature... Or even a Shuckle :P

This doesn't belong here, unfortunately. Please see this sticky in the strategies and movesets forum for more information.
