Before I buy this device... is there anything I should know?
I don't have a wireless router, so in order to play Pearl online I need to get a USB wi-fi device, am I right?
Before I order one from ebay, is there anything important I should know? I haven't been able to find very much information on the subject, must be a UK thing. Pokemon isn't popular over here. Will it work with all computers or internet connections? Are the devices compatable with certain games only - like do I have to get a UK USB wi-fi device for my UK Pearl game, or does it work the same on both UK and US games? How do I find my friend code? How do I get connected to the game once I have the device? Am I even buying the device for the right reasons? If not, how do I get to play Pearl online with all you guys? O_o I'm actually kind of fumbling in the dark here. I've been googling for the past week contemplating whether to buy the device or not, since all I can find on it is the packaging. |
if you going to buy Nintendo WiFi USB..be warned they dont work for long, well with me and some other people I know. If I was you I would get a router than the USB, my USB didnt last very long, it was a UK one and yes it worked with my USA Pokemon game before I bought the UK versions, not sure if USA USB Works with UK games or ever your PC but I shouldnt see why not. To get connected thats all you need to do is when you start up a game e.i Pokemon D/P on menu go to WiFi setting then it will have 3 connections so go to slot 1 and choose what your using if its a router or a USB etc.. and then you fine to go whenver..but of course USB must be plugged in etc.. And about the friend codes?? umm ask peopl and they will give you friend codes. Once you go online the fisrt tie Ever on Pokemon you be sent out again and been given a Pal Pad and thats where your FC will be and where you can registar friend codes.

BDT, where did you and your friend get yours from? Mine also stopped working, but I got the money back for it. I ordered mine from ebay, so I figured it was probably faulty. I'm gonna get one from Game soon though.

I've had my USB for like, 2 years now, and it works FINE!

You only need the USB adapter for wired internet connections, if you have a wireless router your DS can access it directly.
Edit: Sorry, didn't realize you don't have a wireless router, so you do need the USB adapter. There should be no problems though as USB adapters basically transmit the same signal as a wireless router, there should be no region problems. Don't buy from eBay if you can avoid it, it can be difficult to return faulty items through eBay. Game sells them, probably Gamestation too. Also try Play.com, They cost about £25 |
I got one of the Nintendo USB dongles, and have found it problematic. I found my connection with it to be pretty damned slow and unreliable. It'd probably be better value in the long run to buy a cheap wireless router, because then you'll be able to use other devices, such as laptops and mobiles with it, too.

If I were you, I would buy a router. That would last for years. I've heard that the Wi-Fi USB Key isn't that good... But you can buy it if you want.

So even though I have a perfectly good wireless network, I bought one of the dinky USB adapters as I'm not prepared to basically remove the security from my network just to use the DS online! |
My wireless adapter I have had since the game was released and it still works o.o, But didn't they discontinue them?
