The trees look really weird, they look really rushed and no outline :O
Use a bigger pallet green, and make a outline.
The sky looks better, a bigger pallet blue is what it needs.
I think the stars look great, but add some shading to them.
The pinquins look good, they don't fit well in those suroundings though.

I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing since it allows them to stand out, but it kinda looks awkward.

Thanks Amachi... it was definetely a large effort, like two hours just for the background... the trees have no real definite shading, and a problem that occured was when i had orignially created the background,it was soo small that a chickadee was as big as a medium tree... so i had to double the size by two, and i think that's why it looks so awkward now. i also had to cut out some of the background since it was WAY to big after i doubled it. at least nothing got distorted, since i sketch/skewed it...

original background

used background

So as you all can see, there's a big difference in image quality...

Thankyou for your imput Crossel! I will take all you say to heart, since you're such a great spriter! So i think i explained why the trees look a bit awkward... but i hope they dont look rushed, i had spent a good fifteen minutes making the big tree... as for the shading, i'm not very sure how to shade a pine tree...since they have no definite dimensions, do they? Really i dont want my pine's to look like cones, and i'm not going for a in-game look, so it's hard for me to determine how i would shade them...

I can definetly go back and change the sky color pallette to blue it up a bit. (remember, it's supposed to be at night, so it still has to be a bit dark...and that's just my spriting shading style anyhow) i also agree with the stars, they look great, but they should have more of "glow" around them...

As for the chickadees, i think that you're both right, and they just plain and simple don't fit... it's the rigid outlining of my style, and just the "hard" color pallette...

Thanks everyone! I'm going to go back, fix accordingly, and i'll go from there!

I want to thank everyone who has come to my thread, because Crossel, you have given it the honor of it's 100th reply, and i am honored that everyone thinks my stuff is decent enough to have that many people check it out! Thanks everyone!

Thanks HFI... i think that there's still small little problems with the shading like the helmet's bright spot (it's divited...) or the darkness of the face...but it is definetly better...

i'm redoing orelect, but am not getting the result i like... i will post it when i find a change i like, the main thing is i'm sure how to make the "needles" that come out of it's back... anyways, i'll figure it out...

Take care everyone, merrry christmas, happy holidays...so on so forth...

I like the new shading on the Spinum. Much better than the old shading. Well, you're an awesome spriter, so keep it up, and Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays to all!

Thanks to everyone who has been replying to my thread! I appreciate it!

Bubblewrap: I think the new shading is "more correct" now, but it doesn't look as good as the old one in the sense that it is very "hard" by which i mean choppy and rigid...that is my main problem with my shading, it's to rigid...once i can fix that, i think my sprites will be much better!

hey GP.
haven't been here for long time.
nice imprtovements to the originals, but the new spinum looks flat
It needs a highlight and a d/p outkline

Yeah, that seems to be my problem, like i said, the shading is too choppy, and the grey is to contrasted in the tones. It gets to dark right away... not to mention that the bottom looks like he has a "scruffy"...or maybe a 5:00 shaddow for those who don't know what that is... anyhow, i will definitely be redoing the shading on that one...

as for the shading it's self, it will have to be r/s/e/fr/lg style because that is how it will be in carbon... remember, these are going to be in carbon, and i have to keep it down to that level of spriting...

Anyhow, thanks to everyone for keeping my thread alive! I will be working on spinum, and look for a new and entirely redone humsaw to come around! I will also be reshading orelec one of these days... so that's what will be coming up! Till then,

Thanks to everyone who has been replying!

This Saturday I will be embarking on the greatest adventure of my life! Out of my entire state, 25 students have been chosen, I being one of them, to go to Washington D.C. to bear witness to one of the greatest events in American history: I will be at the white house to witness the inaugeration of our first African American president, Barack Obama.
I leave on Saturday, and arrive in D.C. late in the afternoon. I'll be staying at a hotel, with all housing and food costs paid for by the state! It's awesome! Oh, did i mention that the state is paying for my airfare as well?!

I'll be going on a night time tour of the city as it's lit up.
I'll be going to the D.C. Opera House to see a theatrical production.
I'll be going on a tour of the white house.
I'll be going to a private lunch-in with my state's senator, Dick Durbin!
I'll (the best part) be going to the inaugaration on tuesday!!!!!!
I'm so excited!!!

I won't be around for a week or so. So... please keep my sprite thread alive, and send me messages on my chat board on my profile, cause my pm box is getting awefully full. Have a great week you guys, I might pop in from now till friday, but you won't here from me after that for a week or so! Take Care!!! Keep Spriting!!!

http://f.imagehost.org/0485/secret_base_pieces.png
I recolored the belly of rhydon doll to greyscale, then recolored greyscale to gold to make golden rhydon! same concept for snorlax...

recolored pillar and door to, then plopped them together to make cheap but effective gate.

recolor of fissure mat...no explanation there...

so when i finish the base, i'll show y'all it!

I have practically been molested over the fact that my rpg character's sprite is not scratched, and in fact is only an edit of volkners. So, to put all you nay-sayers in the closet, here it is!

http://g.imagehost.org/0943/Lance_Layer_Sprite_5.png
Here it is!!! My SCRATCHED SPRITE!!! ( except for the face...hair is still scratched...)
http://f.imagehost.org/0446/Jammin_1.png

So, give some feedback, what do you all think?

Destrozone February 24th, 2009 8:17 PM

Very nice work on the shading, GP. I have to say, I am becoming all the more impressed every time you post new stuff. Very nice work, keep it up!

Azumi February 24th, 2009 9:14 PM

You asked me to review. I'll do it.

http://g.imagehost.org/0943/Lance_Layer_Sprite_5.png
This looks better in comparison. The skin doesn't "shine" strangely, there are lines on the shirt, you know, all the cool changes...

http://f.imagehost.org/0446/Jammin_1.png
OMG, this is da best! But I wanna ask. Is his eyes closed? Cuz you know, it kinda looks a bit strange when I zoomed in (using paint)... I added some white spots to make the eyes, and... it's possible! THIS STOMPS MY SPRITES! HARD!

So far, I am quite happy. Other than the eye thing. And the guitar looks a bit... too light for a guy. How about using darker colours? :)

herojelly February 26th, 2009 5:14 PM

Whoop! These are really nice. But I think you might need to work on your shading.
http://c.imagehost.org/0711/Santoki.png
In this sprite, the tail on the left is light colored, just like the foot on the right. Now, pokemon sprites usually have a light source.
http://pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/dpmfa/dpmfa001.png
As you can see, the more left you go, the lighter it is, because the light source is coming from the left. On your sprite, there is a light source on both sides, and it's distracting.(I couldn't find a better word. XD) So, you might want to fix that.

http://c.imagehost.org/0740/Milodos.png

On this sprite, you used dithering. You should probably avoid that method more often. It doesn't... work well.(I need to learn more words. <_<)

that was my original version... i updated it with the new one to it's righthttp://e.imagehost.org/0896/Santoki.png see, the light source is now coming from the top left. the left side of the foot is illuminated, as well as the ear. the face and belly is also illuminated on the top left...

i hope this one looks better...

again, this is my original. i have been having a ton of trouble shading milodos because of it's tubular shape. i seem to have trouble with that. as for the diviting, i tried to limit it in the repose, but there is still a bit...

i need to learn how to do the tubular shading. if anyone can help, or knows any good tuts, it would be a great help!

Thanks so much (aka) pokedude! I appreciate your tips.

It's a new cody sprite!!! I made it in like five minutes, so please don't take it to seriously. I was just using it to show my brother how to sprite with ms paint's recoloration tool, grid, and gradients... he's only ten, and doesn't really know how to sprite...yet...

Well I'm not entirely sure if I can teach you how to shade tubular things. I mean all of my shading is just guessing on what my mind thinks it would be. I might not be right on how I do shade it.

But I made a very rough tube-ish thing like yours.

I'm not sure if I can explain it, I hope you can understand.
After the bend you add a dark color again to the bottom, to make the curve stand out.
:x Like a simple halo.

How you have the shade on the bottom, the normal color leads the bend, and then the shade on that.

ooh! my first crit on the new sprite!!! i agree with you one hundred percent that the edit of the original is better. i redid the skin tone because it just looked a bit weird, it was "streaky". I was trying to keep the pallette under 16 colors, but i figured what the heck, lets make it look good... anyhow, i do think the new one looks better...thanks!

As for the scratch, i think it's best too, thank you. yep his eyes are closed...i hope they look closed... the head was edited off the old sprite, since i tried to keep my scratched hair and brow and all that... i'll go back and maybe fix them a bit up... i'm not quite sure how i'll do it, but i will. Anyhow thanks for checking him out!!!

hm... i see what you mean. i think the main problem with the hand is that it's too small, i should probably make it a bit bigger... as for the collar, i'm not sure how to exactly fix that. i might buff out the jacket along the zipper line...that might do it, but i'm not sure. i'm gonna have to experiment on that. thanks for the crit though ^_^

Thanks so much Lornami! I can always depend on your help. I see what you mean with the whole halo shape, but my problem i guess will be determining the thickness of the shading. hm... i guess i will have to play around with it. nevertheless, this helps a ton! i'm gonna have to see what i can do with it though... looking at an example is one thing, but executing is totally another! ^_^ if ya know what i mean...

Lance Layer
http://c.imagehost.org/0469/Lance_Layer_Sprite.png
This is my RP character. I like how Volkner's body is angled, so I took form from that. I included a shortened jacket, with a simple style, and put in a custom guitar. Then i went to work on the face and head. The face ended up looking a lot like Volkner's, but the hair is pretty cool in my oppionion. Took about an hour and a half to complete. Has a custom pallette: here's a much better hairline:
http://f.imagehost.org/0335/Lance_Layer_Sprite_6.png
He's supposed to have black pants, but that wouldn't look to good, so i toned it down to a dark grey. The Navy jacket is a significant part of his story so that doesn't get changed either. As for the guitar, it is based off of the guitarist guitar, but reshaped and colored to have a nice wood look to it. This edit added the silver striping, and has (im my oppinion) better shading!

http://f.imagehost.org/0446/Jammin_1.png
SCRATCHED!!! This is (apart from the guitar, and the, like twenty pixels, of volkner's face shape) ENTIRELY SCRATCHED! I scratched the legs, top, hands, neck, rock... yeah...wowzer! So to all the cynics out there, HA! I made my own scratched trainer sprite, now leave me alone!!! BTW, it is still the same pallette, except for a new facial color tone, apposed to the light wood color.

http://c.imagehost.org/0265/Lance_Overworlds.pnghttp://www.pokecommunity.com/customavatars/avatar100651_6.gif

YAY! It Lance Layer Overworlds! These took a lot of time to make! (you have all seen the sprite so im no going into that) The body, is based, not copied and pasted, off Volkners, but it created the jacket without all the yellowish blingy stuff. The head is CUSTOM done and it took like an hour to get it right for just the regular front facing.
The color palette is the exact same as the sprite's. The guitar on the second set, took at least two hours to make it look how i wanted it to, and it still isnt exactly right! Again, same color pallette, but actually drawing the guitar mini style was HARD!!!

http://d.imagehost.org/0862/Carbon_Banner_Big.png

This is technically a fusion between gyarados and milotic, but nothing is derived from prexisting sprites except the color pallette. This is my first presentable scratch. Took around two hours to get it to the form it's in now. I know the outlining is a bit thick, and the shading is a bit weird, but i wanted it to look "scaly".

It is said to be so beautiful, all are compelled to stare
at it, unable to look away.

http://c.imagehost.org/0074/Humsaw.png
Humsaw- Blade Beak Pokemon
Flying/Steel

Humsaw must beat its wings a hundred times a second
to support the weight of its large beak. This Pokemon
keeps its beak sharp by running it against tree sides.

Luvfin (Heart shaped Pokemon)
Water

Luvfin, the evolved form of Luvdisk, live only in the warm tropic waters
that surround Floridian Island. These Pokemon have such a cute charm,
they can make people fall in love with the first person they see.

Avelect (Static Bird Pokemon)
Flying/Electric

Avelect's wings are always positively charged, resulting in these
Pokemon being unable to fly near eachother without being buffeted
in the opposite direction. Avelect's static wings also absorb electricity.

http://c.imagehost.org/0049/Spinum.png(my original)http://e.imagehost.org/0182/Spinum.png(edit by me)
Spinum- Spinning Pokemon
Steel

Spinum have been clocked at speeds over one hundred
miles an hour. This Pokemon's organs are magnetically
held in place in its body so it never becomes dizzy.

http://d.imagehost.org/0035/Sparkrust.png
Sparkrust (Rusty Ball Pokemon)
Electric/Steel

Voltorb have been found throughout the Grotto region that
have not evolved into Electrode. These old rusty Voltorb are
instable, so electric items are magnetically pulled to them.

http://c.imagehost.org/0711/Santoki.png(my original)http://e.imagehost.org/0896/Santoki.png(my edit)
Santoki (Mountain Rabbit Pokemon)
Normal

Santoki are spirited little Pokemon that bounce around on
their spring-like tails. This Pokemon relys on echo vision to
see and hear, since they are all born blind.

http://b.imagehost.org/0256/Chickabee.png(original)http://e.imagehost.org/0957/Chickabee.png(edit by me)
Chickabee (Lilttle Helper Pokemon)
Flying/Ice

Chickabee line the postal station, carrying around packages and
letters to place in the correct P.O. boxes. These little pokemon
aspire to one day leave the post station to deliver like a Delibird.

http://c.imagehost.org/0152/Antwerp.png(my original)http://e.imagehost.org/0932/Antwerp.png(my edit)
Antwerp (Little Ant Pokemon)
Bug/Ground

Antwerp work day and night preparing a feast for the
queen Aviant. These little Pokemon are very strong, able
to lift twenty times their weight.

http://c.imagehost.org/0327/Aviant.png(original)http://e.imagehost.org/0333/Aviant.png(edit by me)
Aviant (Queen Ant Pokemon)
Bug/Flying

Aviant spends much of it's time eating the feast prepared
by the Antwerps. She becomes very fat, resulting in a loss
of flight because her wings can't support her weight.

http://b.imagehost.org/0289/Scorchant.png
Torchant (Fire Ant Pokemon)
Bug/Fire

Torchants assemble immediately if a threat to the queen
Aviant is brought upon. These Pokemon will fight viciously
to protect their queen Aviant, as well as weaker Antwerps.

Wraithoreon (Dark Ray Pokemon)
Ghost/Dark

This is a VERY bad one that i had made for a friend. I do not
really know his pokedex entry, or much info on him. PLEASE
do not steal him!!! (not that anyone would want to anyhow...)

http://c.imagehost.org/0375/Orelec.png
Orelec- Iron Cat Pokemon
Steel/Electric

Released from the bonds that held it for thousands of
years, Orelec roams the world avoiding humans as much
as possible. It can create thunder storms in an instant.

http://c.imagehost.org/0845/Oreod.png(my original)http://e.imagehost.org/0591/Oreod.png(edit by me)
Oreod- Iron Cat Pokemon
Steel/Fire

Oreod is a Pokemon blinded by hatred of humans.
It roams the world burning down towns and the
homes of any people it comes upon.

Fusions

http://c.imagehost.org/0679/Slowqueen.png
Slowqueen (Vain Pokemon)
Water/Psychic

The King's Rock held by Slowpoke also attracts Clamperl. If a
Clamperl latches itself onto the Slowpoke, the result is a very
vain pokemon, carring greatly about it's looks and appearance.

http://c.imagehost.org/0917/Pegaflame.png
Pegaflame (Pegasus Pokemon)
Fire/Flying

Ancient writings tell of Ponyta that did not want to be
bound to the land. They evolved wings and flew off,
never to be seen again. It is unknown if any currently exist.

Yes... I know that this is a HUGE cliche. But it still looks pretty cool!

Gyarados Fossil: How sad :( I hope my Gyarados NEVER dies!

Eggs

Starts with the "Default Egg" from R/S and goes in pokedex order from there. #2 would be a bulbasaur egg, #3 would be a charmander egg...etc. I finished through 151 (Mew). Notice! Evolved forms do not have eggs, since they're evolved. Mewtwo also does not for obvious reasons.

http://c.imagehost.org/0585/Poke_Eggs_FIN.png
I make them from a custom template i designed. They all have pallettes based off their diamond/pearl sprite. Some in my oppinion are awesome, while others are not so good or simply don't make any sence.

Cody (Cockatiel)
Flying

Cody enjoys following his family members around the house
when he is not perched on their shoulders or engrossing his
self in his food dish. At four months old, he is already starting
to say his own name and make kissy-kissy noises.

Cody is an overfed, and overloved cockatiel that never lacks
for anything. His favorite food is McDonalds french fries, and
he loves to watch the fish in the aquarium. Cody uses an arsenal
of words including: come here cody, me, and his newest, NO!

My car... it's a 1993 Topaz. I've grown up in this car, it's practically
a family member, considering we've owned it for fifteen years. It
has now been passed down to me from my mom. It may be old and
rusty, but it still runs great, and has a decent pioneer sound system!

And how bout my house? This took a very long time to make! (I made it on ms paint!)

Anyhow, thankyou! I appreciate you thoughts! I have been looking at my recolor and have also come to the conclusion that he looks sleppy... but since that is how the original sprite looked...i really couldn't change it too much...

yeah, i know... i am currently fixing that little problem... i did not realize that it looked so funny until after the animation was complete and running...

thanks though! i appreciate the feedback! Does anyone know of a free online animation creator that takes png's and turns them into an animation? the one i used only takes gif's and it distorts my pictures...a bit unfortunate...

Also, the swamp or whatever that yellow-green stuff is seems.. oddly shaded. It's a bunch of random dots that don't seem to make any sense. Still, it's a good piece of pixel art.

Thanks Kenji! I also realized that, which was why i mentioned the detail at small size quote...

as for the shading, i understand completely what you mean. i wanted a "flat" look though, to contrast with the swamp and the muk... maybe it was to flat...

as for the swamp, it was supposed to be that mossy stuff... like duckweed... but still, even the duck weed has a shade variation...
Thanks everyone! Until next time...

Well, slowqueen is a bit unusual... You should have recolored the shell using the palette of the actual rock on slowking/slowbro.

Also your RP character's guitar looks like it has no shading and outline.

Laplit's shell (The part with the light shining on it) Should have a lighter color. It sticks out. Also humsaw's wings looks... uneven...

But I like the shading on all of your re-edited fakemon, and your gyarados sprites are beautiful.=p

Thankyou so much mangaroll! This is great crit actually! Hm... where to start?

slowqueen... definitely not my best, but i think your right. the clamperl blue isn't cutting it, it seems to detract. I will go back recolor it...

As for Lance's guitar... i really don't know what to do about it... i tried to make it look "wooden"... instead it is just a tanned up mess... i might just entirely redo it, or take it out, or something... i don't know...

as for laplit, i will not be changing that one... i actually used the pallette directly off Lapras, and as that was the color used on the light spot of lapras, i transfered that tone to laplit.

As for humsaw, forget about it. it is LONG GONE! i gave up on it a long time ago! the anatomy is messy, the pose is awkward, the coloration is lacking, and just in general, it is an ugly sprite... wait a minute... i made that one didn't i...

But really, THANKS! I appreciate your ideas, and your crit! The slowqueen coloration never came to my head, so thanks on that!

Take care everyone!

gosh that's creepy...

It's very creepy! But in a good way! The stitches make it look very interesting.

My newest and most probably best sprite ever!!!

It is the new milodos! I LUV IT!!!

My only concern with it is the shading and the back fin (technically milodos' right). I need crit on that please!

Spoiler:
http://i44.*.com/2u4nh9w.png

Sorry if it's hard to tell Pink & Red apart. The red is pointing to the outline near the top; the pink is the shading inside.

My criticisms in the spoiler.

I do like the head & tail, though. XD

= GPR = April 21st, 2009 4:56 PM

(a half an hour after fainting and having Cody peck me awake...)

Kenji, there are NO words to describe how i feel right now! Wow, i am gonna pass out (...again...)

Truly, you define good critism! From now on, when ever some one spams up my thread with lame crit or comments, i'm just gonna refer them to post #174!

(One minute while i take a breather!)

Now down to buisness!

1. My sprite has to be 64x64 and 16 bit... which leaves me a little less room and coloration than i would have liked. i can, and will, definitely darken the medium navy tone, or lighten the lightest.

2. Outline shading: i thought it looked a bit weird in some parts, but i guess you really pointed them out. (Thanks, thanks thanks!!!) For the tan and the navy, since i only have three tones of those colors, i can really only outline in those color's darkest tones... it's actually very frustrating! i'm very limited in the outline shading on the crest, which is probably the worst looking outlining anyways... i only have three colors to use for shading and outlining, not including black... same applies with the fins/wings... i'm not sure what to do about that...

3. the shading in the center of the body was also super hard. that has been my problem with milodos. i can't seem to get the tubular shading down. someone (i'm sorry to whom it was, but i dont remember) showed me how to shade tubes, or rather they modeled it, but i still have trouble on that shapes shaddowing.

4. the far right side of the pixel was actually a choice of the lesser evil. it was originally one large line, but it looked WAY to flat. so i gave it a bit more curve, where it did seem to step out a bit to far. But then i think the "Pointyness" comes from that one notch on the left of the segment. maybe by smoothing that out, it will loose the point, sharp look... and become more round.

5. as for the curviture of the body, i'll try it right off your model and see how it looks!

It may take me a day or two to redo this one, since i'm also making some other stuff at the moment, but mark my words, it will be redone!!!

Thankyou so much Kenji!!! I appreciate it soooooooooooooooo much! Your a great help, a great spriter, and a great friend!!!

Cholo April 21st, 2009 5:22 PM

i think all ur gyrados sprites are great and ur sprite guitar man guy..lol i forgot the word for it right now..anyway nice work ^-^

= GPR = April 21st, 2009 6:19 PM

oooh! my first victim of this ploy!

Cholo, please review post 174 to see how to properly critisize! (Granted, you don't have to be that in depth...)

but really, what do like about them?
which ones in particular do you like?
what do you think i need to work on?
why do you think these things?

I appreciate your post, but please, give me a hand here!

Cholo April 21st, 2009 6:58 PM

haha i had feeling something like that was gonna happen while tryin to get 15 posts so i can make my thread..
lol but now that i have i guess i could be a little bit more thorough
the lance layer guy was very well done except i think u need a little bit more shading on the clothing (the hair's perfect) and the guitar looks great also, considering it was made from scratch (it was made from scratch right?) either way it looks good..
and the first 3 gyrados's were beautiful i think it was the way u colored it and the rest of the revamps were also done perfectly..
uhh thats about it i guess haha

= GPR = April 21st, 2009 7:16 PM

Thanks for being a great sport! I was joking... but thanks anyhow!

I've never had anyone say something about the jacket's shading... where do you think it needs work?

As for the guitar... it wasn't scratched...as a matter of fact, it was ripped, recolored, resized and retextured... all resulting in a death trap of heavy crit! I actually agree with most everyone else and say the tones are to light... but if you like it, i'm glad! Your like only the second person...

as for gyarados revamps... WRONG!!! they are not done to perfection... as a matter of fact, i am a failure! i did not properly reshade them, hence they are only recolors...at least the old ones are anyways... as for the those two loose pokemon yellow sprites, they are properly done, to perfection!

Thanks again for the reply, and i appreciate you feedback! (it was much better than the first time around!) Now you'll know what to expect and you'll have an idea of what you want to recieve on your thread!

Keep Spriting Folks!

the jacket just seems like it needs a lighter shade blue on the left of the sprite...
other than that it looks good and the pants' shading are fine

as for the gyrados' i still think they look awesome haha..

thanks! i never really noticed that! hm... i could go back in there and change the shading... i probalby will after i finish some of the other stuff i've been doing lately.

As for the gyarados', thank you anyhow! i appreciate it!

First off, i made a new question mark animation!
http://www.iaza.com/work/090426C/qmark_banana7046514938-iaza.gif
Nothing great... i know, but now it shall be used to cover up my new work until i am ready to post it!
http://www.iaza.com/work/090426C/skull_black7203224705-iaza.gif
this is another little one i made... not sure what i'll use if for... maybe to warn of a horrible sprite or something...
http://www.iaza.com/work/090426C/mark_25353632421-iaza.gif
and a mark martin quicky one i made! again, nothing great... it honestly took like ten minutes to make...

Gary, the Magic Fairy April 25th, 2009 8:19 PM

They look... drawn. You should've cleaned up the outline a little. A simple Highlight + Base Color + Shadow shading would've been nice too, and probably wouldn't have taken too much more time to recolor for the animation frames.

The shapes are nice, though. :D

At the moment.. it's kinda hard to call them sprites. Technically, I think those would be considered graphics.

they were just quick little time killers... i had nothing better to do but to draw them... and practice putting together animations... i'll never use them... maybe the ? mark...but that's it... i'm not really gonna go back and spice them up...

Gary, the Magic Fairy April 25th, 2009 8:58 PM

Yeah, I wasn't really expecting you to go back and fix them up, just giving a few comments. XD

I do like that question mark. I've tried spriting one before, and it always turns out awkward and uneven. Yours looks really nice. I like how it indents at the bottom near the dot.

The car's pretty nice for a quickie too. Especially for only taking 10 minutes or so on it. XD

Cute...HA! Fooled ya! Watch as the banette devours teddy's soul!

Hope you all like it!

Crosell April 30th, 2009 12:30 PM

Nice one GP, I really like the animation in the teddy sprite!
Only while the animation starts to change into the bannete, you should have added some more shading.
I think a bigger pallete will fix that problem, but really I think you did a great job on that one!

Well thankyou Crosell! (i'm all giddy and smily...hehe) i despise the shading... it's choppy, cut up, and quite frankly makes no sense in some places... but care not! it was a lot of fun to make! i haven't enjoyed making a sprite as much as this one in a while! i still like the outcome!

aquakip May 2nd, 2009 8:01 AM

The Snorlax Pokedoll and the Stuffed Animal Bear changed into a Banette are the best you have here. I'd say those things are A work compared to the rest which in my opnion is mediocre.
You should make things in that style of spriting :)
I hope I don't sound rude...because I'm not being it. :)

<~F.M.P~> May 2nd, 2009 10:21 AM

I also agree I love the Banette Bear transformation, but I don't think everything else is mediocre, He's a pixel artist so all His stuff wont all be like the banette Bear.

rall looks like it could be a prevo to my spinum ^_^

great job on all of these!

>back to reality<

Awe! Thankyou! It looks great! As a matter of fact, i like it better than my own! I'm honored that someone made a fan art out of one of my fakemon! Well, thanks HFI! The gesture is greatly appreciated!

edit: ...duh...forgot to crit...

I like the pose! It looks great at that angle, and the anatomy looks just right! Really, the only things that i can actually "crit" on this sprite is the outline's coloration at the lightspots... but besides that... i LUV it! I think it's beautiful, and i am so grateful that you made it!!!

sorry, i almost missed you! anyhow...thanks? I actually have to disagree with you... since i'm entitled to my United States 1st Amendment right... i don't think the banette stuff is my best... the pokedoll is a bit messy in the shading and stitching...and the animation has MAJOR shading faults...and even worse is the fact that i'm sitting here forsaking my own work...so now i'm gonna shut up...

Thanks FMP for your comment...

Jαcκςση May 9th, 2009 11:19 PM

Wow, loving all this stuff. The guitarist is especially awesome! Only thing I guess you could improve a tiny bit on is shading. Maybe its just me, but not all your sprites are shaded really well. Don't get me wrong, they're good, but I think if your shading just a bit better, these would all be incredible.

= GPR = May 9th, 2009 11:26 PM

It's funny you say that. I know exactly what you mean. I know what to look for in shading. I am able to tell people when the shading is wrong, but when it actually comes down to it, i can't do the shading right myself... does that make me a hypocrit? i don't know...

I wish i could get the shading down, i just need to keep studying up on official sprites. Furry sprites, round sprites, and cylindrical sprites are my downfall when it comes to shading.

Currently i'm looking at ekans, dragonair, milotic and some custom sprites to get down the right form of shading of cylindrical pokemon... all so i can perfect my milodos.

From there, i have yet to reshade lance's jacket...

Then i will probably go back and redo orelect, then oreod...

but i'm getting ahead of myself. Thanks for the comment and the critisism. I appreciate it mucho. (look at that incorporation of spanish...A+ for effort...)

As i always say,

Keep Spriting!

Haha. Ya, you're already good at shading, you just have certain aspects of it (like the ones you said) you need a little bit of work on. I really look forward to seeing you get even better, the sprites will be awesome.

= GPR = May 14th, 2009 3:54 PM

Thanks Jackson! Appreciate it greatly!

Ok, i redid Lance Layer, what do you all think?
http://g.imagehost.org/0225/Lance_Layer_Sprite_7.pngold ->http://g.imagehost.org/0756/lance_layer_sprite_8.png(new edit by me)
Notice the hair has another tone, as well as the jacket. There is more variation among the sleeves, and the shoulders have more depth. As for the neckline, notice how the shirt's curved now.

Also, reshaded the guitar, it looks worlds better now!

http://f.imagehost.org/0199/milodos_wip_wings.png(original)->http://f.imagehost.org/0810/milodos_wip_wings_kenji_style.png(new edit by me)

First, the coloration: I matched the tones up, essentially creating a new color pallette for all the blues. You can tell since there's no sharp contrast between the medium shade and the dark shade.

I recolored the crest, and redid some of the outline, as well as the inner outline where the middle crest meets the far left.

I also added more color into the outline of the body. As well, i attempted to make the body more "rounded", but adjusting the outline and the shading as well. I removed that point just above the right wing, and rounded the top portion of the body, just before the striped tail...

What do you guys think? You like them? Why or why not?

Jαcκςση May 14th, 2009 4:41 PM

Much, much better on the shading. The.. dragon¿ looks much more natural. Great job!

= GPR = May 14th, 2009 5:04 PM

OMG!!! 199th reply!!!

Thanks Jackson! Anywho, did i get the shading down like what you were thinking? I lightened the strumming shoulder, but idk, what do you think? do i need to change anything else? or is it good as is?

BTW, thanks everyone for helping my thread reach the milestone of 200 replies...who's gonna be #200?...GO!

i appreciate everyone's responses and good intentions.

Keep Spriting!
