Why is the AI stupid sometimes?

Sometimes its a sigh of releif but makes the game a bit less challenging
e.g
Battles Roark - My Machop is on its last strand of health and the only one left in my party so he uses leer then I whoop him with Karate chop and win lol
why don't they finish you off lol

Manio July 23rd, 2008 8:10 AM

Who knows, some people like it when it happens!

LeeMonkey July 23rd, 2008 8:12 AM

If it's anything like the AI 'gramming in Fire Red and Leaf Green then it's totally randomised. Ruby seemed to have a pattern to it but the other two didn't. They might've knocked that on the head with Platinum.

i kindo of agree, but honestly i would rather it be stupid some times. LOL. there have been a few times where i was like... "wow, how lucky!"

I often get tired of easy AI. It just makes the game too easy. They should have you pick a difficulty level at the beginning of the game or something so you could choose if you wanted dumb opponents or entertaining ones.

Sadistic Typhlosion July 23rd, 2008 11:12 AM

Whenever their Pokémon's health is at about its last strand of health, they use a Potion. This is especially evident in the Elite Four and Champion battles, which are probably the smartest AIs in the games. Just my two cents.

Yamikarasu July 23rd, 2008 11:23 AM

The smartest AIs are probably in the Battle Tower.

I've noticed this, and I think it may be because GF doesn't want you to lose. It seems, at least at the very beginning, that your opponents will fight normally until you get down to really low health, at which point they will use leer on you 5 times in a row.

I hate the AI being so stupid sometimes. Even the E4 can do idiotic things. As mentioned earlier, I think we should have a difficulty setting at the begining as well.

If only Nintendo could see this...

LeeMonkey July 23rd, 2008 11:40 AM

The children should be considered on this one it may be to keep them playing! If they can have a little challange but not one that they cant solve after few attempts then they will play on.
Another example of one set AI is Fable, yet that's not a kids game so there may be more behind it!

Yamikarasu July 23rd, 2008 12:54 PM

I don't think there should be a set difficulty level at the beginning of the game that you couldn't change without starting a new game. There would have to be something ingame that would allow you to change the difficulty level. Just make sure people can't make the E4 super easy just because they are having a hard time.

Matt-O July 23rd, 2008 1:02 PM

I hadn't though of that. That is a good point. But I still think there needs to be some varying difficulty so kids can still play it but older players who like a challenge can enjoy it too.

LethalTexture July 24th, 2008 1:49 AM

I would agree with adding difficulty levels, but it brings back the old argument that the games are designed and made for kids, so they have to be somewhat easy or the kinds would get frustrated and not play.

And i also agree that the smartest AI is in the Battle Tower because, as has been discussed, they try to make it more challenging and they don't actually want you to get a 100-win streak, in a manner of speaking.

mystikal42012 July 24th, 2008 6:24 AM

Probably because they know little kids also play the game and they kind of ease it up so you always have a chance to win.

Pogiforce-14 July 24th, 2008 5:40 PM

what they could do it set it up like how it's set up in The World Ends With You.

The WOrld ends With You has four difficulty settings: easy, normal, hard, and extreme. these four settings can be changed at any given time during the game, at your will. As your character levels up, you can also choose to reduce his level to something lower.

Now here's the thing: the higher difficulty, the better the items and money the monsters you defeat drop. and the lower your level vs your maximum level, the more likely they are to drop them.

Simply put, have varying difficulties, but have greater rewards for the higher difficulties. Little kids who just play for fun won't particularly care if they don't get the super awesome battling items and TMs that the serious battlers look for.
