{Pokémon: Tree of Peace}----- ~As reviewed in the 1st issue of ROM Hackers Newsletter! Technical Information: Hack of: http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x218/foullump/badge-firered.png Code Base: FireRed BPRE Creator: Kawaii, Inc. Language: English, Englais, etc. Features: [x]New Region: Welcome to the Wonderful World of Tottori! [x]Storyline: Featuring your favorite dastardly villains, Team Rocket, with small appearances from Teams Aqua and Magma [x]New Friends and Foes: Tree of Peace will develop the NPCs far better than Nintendo has ever done. There will be more friends, more foes, and more rivals to test you along your journey. [x]Steambot Chronicles?: Many characters will be reminiscent of their counterparts from the game 'Steambot Chronicles'. [x]And, of course, much, MUCH, more! Updates: Code:
Story: Tottori, a region located to the south of Sinnoh, has taken on a life of its own. Not completely as developed as Kanto or Johto, many cities have attained the hustle-and-bustle state similar to that of Saffron or Goldenrod City. On the other hand, there are even more locations that have just recently been explored and colonized. One such area is Puffspore Village. Originally home to many forest dwelling pokémon the small hamlet is now being provided electricity and a train depot is in construction. After this human-interaction, many of the creatures that onced called Puffspore home have now fled in lieu of a more peaceful environment. You, the main character of the soon-to-unfold story, have moved to Puffspore Village with your Mother and Brother. Your brother has recently become sick, and your mother believes the unclean city air to be the cause. Not only that, but she's watched your fascination for pokémon manifest into an uncontrolable urge to be with the creatures. Prof. Basil's Green Leaf Academy is situated right outside of Puffspore Village, making it all the more reason to move. Although the story of Puffspore's forest dwellers may seem tragic, all is not lost. Atleast, the situation is better than that of the Whisperpine Woods. Located deep within the woods is a large tree. The "Tree of Peace" provides security and nourishment to the entire region of Tottori. Unbeknownst to many of the humans that call Tottori home, many a foul deed is being commited within the Whisperpine Woods. Team Rocket has recently funded a logging venture that is ravaging the Wood. They hope to harvest the frightened creatures that call Whisperpine home and to entice the guardian of all nature, Celebi. The story of Tottori is continually being written. By fate, you have been led into the pages of history to stop this menace. The rest of the story is up to you to write... http://i33.tinypic.com/3355nhc.png http://i38.tinypic.com/2dhip8h.pnghttp://i36.tinypic.com/11rvn61.png http://i33.tinypic.com/dqrfrs.pnghttp://i36.tinypic.com/97s58p.pnghttp://i36.tinypic.com/bjiqgm.png http://i35.tinypic.com/11sp3yr.pnghttp://i38.tinypic.com/2hrputj.png http://i38.tinypic.com/24l1qh0.pnghttp://i38.tinypic.com/2rmpkjd.pnghttp://i35.tinypic.com/10gmovb.png http://i34.tinypic.com/11spniq.pnghttp://i34.tinypic.com/e7j8xz.png Trophy Case: Glitches: [x]For some strange reason, when walking in one of the cities (not yet released), which uses the Saffron City tileset, all sprites are on top of the tiles. If anyone knows the cause of this, and what I can do to fix it, I would be greatly appriciative. Click Here. Bulletin Board: [x]Things I need help with... Code:
Credits: [x]Christos and Peyi for ROM Base and Tiles [x]PokéCommunity and PHO for introducing me to hacking [x]All Hackers that inspired me to delve into the depths of Mapping, Scripting, etc. [x]Hackmew for creating the script writing program, XSE, I've come to know and love! [x]Cooley and Megiddo for the Titlescreen Support: http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/8133/51197188696hh6.png Releases: Currently, the only available release is Prologue. Expect the next release sometime this year. ~Outdated!~ Note: Many people have not yet been scripted in the prologue. The idea was just to give a feel of the game. Proceed to talk to people with caution! Also, none of the signposts have been scripted. This is not a glitch! |
Wow!
Nice Maps..... And Good Luck on this |
I like the way you present your project!
very neat and clean. I also like the story which goes deep with nature. I like this. :) in the screenies, I like the simplicity. though, I find the screen where the player talks to the old man about electricity, the grammar is a bit wrong, "I'd rather the POKéMON that lived in the trees." :\ anyways, it is very nice.., so keep it up~ |
Wow! That sounds really cool. I'd love to play that. :)
|
awesome, need any help?
id love too any way i can |
Quote:
...as you can tell: I'm the grammar snob about whom your mother warned. Quote:
~~ Thanks for the complements, everyone! I'd love to talk about a cool building in the next town/city, but right now I'm focused on making the map work, so I haven't even tried implementing it yet. Again, if anyone knows what the cause of my map problem is (please consult Glitch section) I'd be in your debt!! |
This is a very nice and decent hack. I like how your presentation stands out but i think DJG is right, you should probably fix some of the spelling in there. But other than that, i wish you lots of luck!
|
In a world full of boring presentations and horrible screenshots of the game, and horrid scripting, and lack of any real content, this hack stands out.
I'm happy. This is what a real hack in the Hack Showcase should be like. Keep up the good work. :] |

~~ Okay, in other news, I was searching around PHO today, and I happened upon a nice ROM Base. Now, I love the ROM Base that I'm currently using, but I think this one goes with the "nature" theme better, and it has many more nature-like tiles. What do you all think?: http://xiderwong.bplaced.net/Dateien/Rombase/Screens/Testmap.png Test map and ROM Base credited to Xiderwong and I can guarentee the tiles are Kyldove's! So, what do you all think? |
I like that ROM base the tree's look cool.
|
i like the new rombase better ...
i also like your theme of nature its very exciting and new and the addition of the great steambot chronicles characters = i must play this ! however have you chosen the starters if not they should be grass and be ... hoppip , seedot , and lotad ( all are dual typed upon 3rd evo ) |
the new ROM base's palletes are a bit pale than the previous ones in your screenshots, however, the trees in that ROM base are pretty. I love them. :)
But do so keep them if you wish. If you like them, then use them. ;) Good luck with this project~ (I still find that grammar wrong. :\ By this I mean that the old man's speech is lacking some words...) |
Looks great and all, but I want to wait for the beta version of the full version not play the prologue cause it gets really annoying to start it over even if I could just transfer the files somehow, I still like to play through the beginning and stuffz.
|
Quote:
And yes, I have chosen the starters. A lot of people will probably be able to guess what that starter is, and I'll probably be criticized for it, without any justification (i.e. "dude tht sukzz!!1!"), but that's just fine, because I can ignore it, and they'll get in trouble!!! Quote:
~~ Okay! I think I'm going to go with the new ROM Base as it has A LOT more tree tiles (including pines for the Whisperpine Woods), and tree stumps!!! Although, I'm not going to implement it just yet, because I talked to the creator, and he said he'd have a finished version of the base in "2 or 3 days", so I'll wait for that. Until then, I'll be working on new scripts for the next city, Blossombeach City. I would show some new screenshots of the city, but of course, there is the glitch (see Glitches section). I'm not sure if I'll have the glitch with the new ROM Base, but if anyone knows the cause, I'd soooo LOVE THEM! =) Anywho, new screenshot of the ROM Base: http://xiderwong.bplaced.net/Dateien/Rombase/Screens/Screen_Final.PNG Not much difference, but there's new water tiles, new path, and a flower (always important) that looks like a dandelion (I'll edit it to make it look more like one)!! So, comments/concerns? Tell me! |
Hm, i think my rombase is pretty good^^
Well, please check out the Thread of PHO. I have released the final version for a few minutes... ~Xiderwong @theme; Good hack! I'm sure you will have a lot of fun with my rombase.. |
I'd like to help you with your map glitch problem, but alas I don't understand the problem?
Is the sprites supposed to hide partially under the tiles? or completely? And they are not? Please be more specific, or provide a small screenshot (I know you don't want to reveal the new city). I would love to help you fix this problem. :] |
This styled Layout beats any CSS layout :P
I really like your hack, the palettes, and everything. Say, if you can provide images for the Titlescreen, I can insert them, if you want me to. :D Thanks, for posting such a great hack, even though it's not far, it's still good. I can tell it'll be good in the future ;) |

And if you go to the Saffron City map, everything is normal. {EDIT: Quote:
Anywho, I'll get those images to you in a PM.} |
Hmm...
Maybe it has to do with switching the town around and the blocks. Try going to the block editor and make sure that the block goes over the player. I think it'll say that. I'm not too sure. :\ Try the maphelp thread. :\ GL~ |
Quote:
|
I guess.
Does it happen with the other tiles? |
Quote:
|
No, I meant does it happen with this tileset?
http://xiderwong.bplaced.net/Dateien/Rombase/Screens/Testmap.png |
Quote:
|
Quote:
maybe it has something to do with the movement permissions. or could have been that you have set a different tile property to those tiles. |
Er...Here's the Jumpluff Pixel Art I did! My first time spriting!
http://i33.tinypic.com/2nvqels.jpg Good luck! |

Quote:
Go to the advancemap blockeditor and choose the bad tile. be sure that the backgroundbytes are "00" and "00". |
Xiderwrong is correct :D.
I like this hack, but your old tiles is what you need, not with everything because that rombase is going to get Overused in 2 Weeks 10 people started to use it by yesterday D: |

~~ Alright, at this point, I'm working at a snail's pace. Ugh! I've started reimplementing the maps, then I'll put in the scripts (easy, thanks to XSE!) and fix the warps. By that time, hopefully I'll get the Blossombeach City glitch figured out, or maybe it'll be gone with these new tiles. I'll try to start getting a few pictures out, but that probably won't happen until tomorrow, because I have to stop every half an hour from boredom! :tired: |
Quote:
anyways, good luck with fixing those tiles. I ain't a FireRed hacker but, I am sure you can fix 'em. |
Quote:
I hope I can fix them. If not, then I'll have to use a different tileset, which would screw everything up!! Argh! The only reason I say that is because I don't really like the Celadon City tileset, but that's the closest to what I'm using so... |
Quote:
Only at the top of some tiles, like the top from the trees, the top from houses... Example: Put only these backgrounbytes to the tiles that over the hiro. Something like the bottom of a house is under a hero (U understand?) Tiles at the top = "00" "00" Tiles at the bottom = "00" "20" kay? |
Or insert the map to a different location.
|
Quote:
If you did overwrite the map, make sure all the level scripts are off, as long as any old date. Try remaking the map as a new map, if you did overwrite. :] If not. I can't do much without the Rom. (No I'm not asking for your IPS.) I had a similar problem. I fixed it, but I don't exactly remember how. :] It's been too long. |
Update~~
[Just felt like being a little artistic...] Okay, I haven't had a chance to work on the hack much this last week (my grandma got sick, so she had to have her gallbladder removed on my birthday, and I got my learners...in other words, busy week), although, Cooley was hard at work making a titlescreen for Tree of Peace! He ran into some troubles implementing it but sent me all the files. I just have to find someone that can finish the job. I'm about to PM a few people, but beforehand, any takers? =) Anywho, here's what it should look like! http://i33.tinypic.com/2uza5pc.jpg Much thanks to Cooley for all his work! I'll update the credits when everything is implemented. And, gah! Bernie Mac just died...=( Okay, sorry for the offtopic-ness. Stupid phenomia...oops, sorry. |
Whoa, that's very nice, so, your changing the name to Tree of Life?
|
Quote:
|
i think that new title screen's too bright for my eyes. :\
anyways, good luck with this project~ edit... here's an award for ya for winning in the thread entitled 'Hack of The Week'... ;) http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa154/destinedjagold/TreeofPeace.png I will be making awards when I can get an installer for Adobe Photoshop, for making awards and for enhancing my skills, since Photoshop's a subject in our school. :P Good luck with this hack. ;) |

~~ Okay...and now for an update!...after a word from our sponsors. =) |
Update: [Features to Make Life Easier]
Update: {Features to Make Life Easier}---
[Blogging Style] Okay, first: {Color-Coded System} When playing through Tree of Peace, you'll notice certain text is in a different color. This is to help people differentiate between important information and regular NPC talk. At this point, the colors are: [x]Blue = Male speech [i.e. I am a guy.] [x]Red = Female speech [i.e. I am a girl.] [x]Black = Neutral speech (either male or female) [i.e. I am one of Professor Basil's Aides.] [x]Orange = Important people [i.e. Go talk to Sheriff Dan.] [x]Green = Important places [i.e. This is the Train Depot.] [x]Purple = Important game text or item [i.e. Kawaii, Inc. received an award!/Did you know that Card Key opens locked doors?] Which brings us to: {No More Capitalized Words} I never liked how Nintendo always capitalized Place Names, Items, People, and especially...Traded Pokémon's nicknames... (Shame, Nintendo, SHAME!) So, from now on, places, people, etc. will be capitalized as regular words (with the Color-Coded System) Actual Pokémon names will be changed...eventually (i.e. TOTODILE, PIKACHU, etc.) |
Update: [NPC's In-Depth-Basil/Userbar]
Update: {NPC's In-Depth/Userbar}---
[Using the Color-Coded System, just for laughs!] Just a little update to hold you all over! Kawaii's Status: Well, school's started, so everything is pretty hectic. Drama try-outs are also tomorrow. This all means that hacking is moving slower than a snail's pace, but once school gets rolling, I'll be able to hack more efficiently during the week. Until then, I've still got a part of the weekend (I still need to have somewhat of a life outside of this box...) to hack, which is good. {Professor Basil} Okay, this is (sorta) the professor in Tree of Peace! His name is Basil, and don't let his age fool you, he's very experienced for his age! Do you remember Prof. Elm's only aide? Yeah, that would be Basil! As you can tell, he loves music (the Bass, according to this picture) and may use such music to soothe the Pokémon under his care. At the beginning of the game, Prof. Basil's Green Leaf Academy is overrun by Team Rocket, who is looking for some piece of information. What information?...well, why should I tell you? Anyhow, Prof. Basil will help you MANYY times on your journey, sometimes indirectly, but at this point, the only thing he can do for you is upgrade that ratty, old Pokédex to a much newer Nationaldéx![Just FYI, I DO need someone to make overworld sprites for the game. If you have good experience, then please apply!!] {Userbar} Well...I just kinda threw this userbar together to put in my signature, but I thought it'd be nice to add. Not much to say, but it features the Trozei version of Jumpluff, and one of Tree of Peace's official colors. I'll add it to the front, but I'm not gonna make a code for it, because I'm lazy...and have homework! By the way, if you think you could do better, then by all means do! |
i like the story and everything... but i dont like the maps
|
If you don't have someone to change the titlescreen I suppose I could.
|

Wow, Now this seems interesting! That story was fun to read...and pretty long ;P
I like the tiles, too, especially the trees! Well good luck with the walk over tiles thing :/ |
Update: [Titlescreen]
Update: {Titlescreen}---
With the help of Cooley and Megiddo, Tree of Peace now has a brand new titlescreen! I think it looks absolutely stunning. Kudos to them! Do you all like it? Speak your thoughts and let us know what you think!: |
Nice hack, I like the titlescreen ^^
|
Except for the back graphics it seems like LIGHTER Can you make it darker? well if you want that it's okay! Well GL For the Hack and Nice screenshots!
|
Update: [Story Update!]
Update: {Story Update!}---
Another update till I can get some real content up. Kawaii's Status: If you'd been reading the ROM Hacker's Newsletter (which I am an editor/writer for!) you'd know that school has gone from bad to worst, so I haven't had much time to do anything hack-related. The good news is weekends, for the most part, are less hectic so I'll be able to get some work done then. Until then... {Not-so-Friendly Competition} I've been trying to come up with a few side-quests, and I was so happy with this one, I thought I'd have to share it! Somewhere in Tottori, not long after you've obtained your first gym badge, you'll come across a clearing with two buildings. You look at the signs, each side-by-side, which read "Igglybuff Inn" and "Cleffa Café". You notice many parallels about the two buildings, and see how each business tries to outshine the other. As you walk inside, the building on the left (Igglybuff Inn), you notice the pink wallpaper, and the dojo-esque architecture. A young woman greets you at the front desk, "Hello, and welcome to the Igglybuff Inn, where serenity in sleep is just a song away!" You then walk into the other building (Cleffa Café) to notice things are a lot more..."hustle-and-bustle". The building is reminescent of an old dairy bar and the food smells home-made. Waiters and waitresses are running from table to table, but you manage to catch one waitress' attention. "Oh, I'm terribly busy...can you go talk to the manager?" she says as she leads you over to the cash register. "Welcome to the Cleffa Café, our food is out of this world! Can I help you?" he asks. When you ask about the Inn, you catch a glimpse of resentment in his eyes, but you aren't sure why... |
Love the titlescreen! But I don't like the name. Good tilesets, palettes and story.
