Ninja Caterpie December 19th, 2008 2:37 PM

Ah, and I better stick mine in too (I want to be after An-chan).

Bony

POKEMON_MASTER_0 December 19th, 2008 2:55 PM

Wait. I don't think I titled it right. Sorry about that. I guess we're supposed to do it here, and I'll edit the topic when we've come up with a title. I think I have to put in my word, so here it is:

Fiery

EDIT: So the title would be "Thine Bony Fiery"?

Ninja Caterpie December 19th, 2008 3:19 PM

No, one more word.

This better be a noun. xP

My thought too. Someone, anyone, give us a noun!

Rabbit December 19th, 2008 3:50 PM

Quetzacoatl.

Wait, is Shrike done with the tail? I don't want to rush him. :0

Ninja Caterpie December 19th, 2008 4:44 PM

"Thine bony, fiery Quetzacoatl"

Oh dear god this'll be epic. Get it renamed now lol.

Shrike Flamestar December 19th, 2008 5:26 PM

Yes yes, I'm done. See? Told you guys it wouldn't take me months -_-

Too bad I had to leave for shopping stuff and couldn't get in on the title, though X_x

JX Valentine December 19th, 2008 5:39 PM

As a general note, yeah, please reread the rules every so often. The game tends to take awhile, so sometimes, one might forget how things work.

POKEMON_MASTER_0 December 20th, 2008 11:11 AM

I feel like an idiot for asking this, but I just edited the title, and within my first post, the title has changed, however, the topic's title has not. Is there any way to change the topic's title, or are we just stuck with the original one?

Shrike Flamestar December 20th, 2008 11:46 AM

Astinus can change it, so someone will need to ask her.

Ninja Caterpie December 20th, 2008 6:07 PM

I'm really liking how the thing's turning out! I can't wait for it to be finished.
... It seems like everyone's got their parts in!

I think my part is so stupid.:embarrass

I hope that it is acceptable.

My part'll look even more stupid. :P Well, compared to the others, it'll look like it's in the wrong section.

Rabbit December 20th, 2008 9:10 PM

Funny. The rules say 12 point Times New Roman, and that's what I used, but the first three corpse sections seem to be using 14 point TNR. Did I read the rules wrong?

txteclipse December 21st, 2008 9:18 AM

You should just post without editing any of the options. I.E. cut/paste from whatever word processor you're using and that's it.

For writing the actual work, you're using the default format of most word processors (twelve-point, TNR). That way, we all know you wrote exactly one page. However, for posting, you're using the default of the forums (as in, no tags).

Also!

Because we've just finished round two, sign-ups for round three are open until New Year's Eve. Next round starts on the new year, folks, so scramble to get in!

Also also, because we seem to have trouble with timing, remember the following:

1. Unless you're the tail of the team (i.e., last person in line), you've got a week to send out your part -- no more, no less.

2. If you know you're going to be away for longer than that period and you know your turn is coming up, please make a post here stating the dates you're going to be gone. (Please don't post an away message if your turn has already passed. That just confuses people. x_x)

3. Please don't sign up if you don't have time to participate. Sorry, but it just isn't as fun if there's fewer parts to the story than I have fingers on one hand.

With that in mind, who's up for round two?

Isn't this round three?

Either way, I'll in.

An-chan December 22nd, 2008 12:39 PM

I'm totally in, if you still want to play with me after all that randomity and Finnish I wrote xD

There's just a question I need to ask. Xanthine, you point out that we have no more and no less than a week. Does that mean that if I finish my part in half an hour, I have to wait for the whole week before passing my line on? Or did you say that just because it's part of the phrase?

Astinus December 22nd, 2008 1:52 PM

It's round three this time, you silly cheese curl. :P

I'm in for this! I need some calm insanity during this time of year (zomg! giant sale at store i work at!), and I need to get back into writing. This is one of the ways I'm going to start for the new year.

So sign me up!

That's what I mean. The first few corpse pieces aren't long enough to have been 12 point Times, but they do reach exactly one page if in 14 point Times. I'm just wondering if this is a bizarre coincidence.

Sign me up, too. ^_^

Ninja Caterpie December 22nd, 2008 3:28 PM

I'm in!

JX Valentine December 22nd, 2008 3:44 PM

Can I really help it if I decide to do lines of crack before coming onto this board? I've heard withdrawal's a *****.

1. Yes, it's round three. As I've noted earlier in the same post.

2. Yeah, that one I just meant that the maximum amount of time you can take is set at one week. So, I guess it's "no more," although for those of you who badger the other players into finishing when it's still under a week, I do have a quiver of arrows, a lighter, and just enough sadism to see what happens if I try to shoot. (Although if I keep taking crack before interacting with you people, you're more likely to see me run around in circles on fire, but.)

As for your post, Rabbit, my own piece was written in 12-point (with margins at 1.25 -- default for Word), so if it's the others that's you're talking about, I could double-check and hit the people responsible with a fish.

I'm not sure why I wish so much harm to befall animals right now. I think this avatar is influencing me.

icomeanon6 December 22nd, 2008 6:15 PM

I'm up for another round.

By the way, before I get hunted down, I confess that I did not use the specified font when I wrote my section. *dodges fish.* I guess I copy-pasted what had been sent to me and just started typing from there. I feel über-terrible about this (with an umlaut, see?), and I promise not to do it again.

To err is human, to forgive is divine!

I am not a crook!

*Holds up both hands with peace signs.*

Post Office Buddy December 22nd, 2008 7:49 PM

I'm up for another round. Doing this gives me some motivation to write my chaptered fic :)

EDIT: Just checked my margins in Open Office and they are .75", which is weird because I haven't seen that as a default, like, ever. That would explain why all of my essays for college seemed longer than they should have been... I do use 12 pt. TNR font though.

Rabbit December 22nd, 2008 8:02 PM

Crack...? -sudden insight into Xanthine's character-

Time to confess...

I just opened word and started typing. Default setting for MS Word 07: 1' margins all the way around, and Calibri font at 11pt.

Sorry guyz... *dodges what ever is thrown.*

Shrike Flamestar December 22nd, 2008 9:07 PM

Eh, I think a little more or less is fine as long as it's not too much. Of course, the problem with ever giving leeway is that it may just snowball, which is always a problem.

Anyways, yes, I'd like to be in the next one again. :D I actually don't want to be the tail again, as it'd be hard to trump the awesome ending I wrote for the last one; and I want to see what I can do with less space. So, sign me up!

Post Office Buddy December 22nd, 2008 11:03 PM

I'm going to be checking my margins every time I do one of these now, but it's already much too late to go back and conform my part of the last CORPSE to the 1" standards. Shouldn't be too much more than one page in standard formatting though...

EDIT: Maybe we should set a specific margin for this. I think Xanthine should choose the margins and perhaps include them in the first post so that we don't have any more madness over length. So far it looks like some of us have different defaults, so a common ground is probably necessary...

This one would actually have to be a fault on your part, unfortunately. First post, first rule at least has always established that the font should be twelve-point Times. =/

Mostly, the formatting rule's in place to ensure that we can easily check to see if you've reached the proper limit, rather than to create a set of limitations to add to the challenge, if that makes sense. But I think I can be comfortable with more or less, so long as it's not noticeable.

We can go with my defaults: 1" top and bottom, 1.25" sides. I've added both under the first rule.

JX Valentine January 2nd, 2009 9:54 AM

Sorry about the lateness, folks. Lineup's below. If you don't see your name, you're not cool enough to be part of the Corpse post and I'll insert it at random.

Censored
Astinus
Rabbit
Icomeanon6
An-chan
Xanthine
Shrike Flamestar
Post Office Buddy
Ninja Caterpie

POKEMON_MASTER_0 January 2nd, 2009 11:20 AM

Ah, I came late. Could you please add my name to the list?

Ninja Caterpie January 2nd, 2009 2:08 PM

Aww...I wanted the tail. xD

Oh well. :D

Would it be cool if you got the tail, then? Or would you rather have a deathmatch with Ninja Caterpie over second-to-tail? I could go either way.

POKEMON_MASTER_0 January 2nd, 2009 6:40 PM

Yeah, the tail would be fine. Although a death match might have proved to be interesting.

icomeanon6 January 27th, 2009 9:29 AM

Hey, everyone. Due to the illness I've had during the last week, I had to send the line I got from Rabbit to An-Chan.

JX Valentine January 27th, 2009 11:52 AM

I was wondering how far along we were. XD No worries. Thanks for telling us, and I hope you get well soon (or have gotten well quickly).

Buoysel March 18th, 2009 6:31 PM

I have received permission from Astinus to revive this thread.
The corpse is done, we just need a title so I can start the thread.

My contribution is: Discombobulated.

An-chan March 19th, 2009 7:34 AM

Ah, I have to get in!

My word: Dish-washing

JX Valentine March 19th, 2009 8:32 AM

For the sake of actually getting a full title today, I'll throw in my two cents one cent.

Wonder.

Astinus March 19th, 2009 1:18 PM

Last one? >_>

Malarkey

An-chan March 19th, 2009 1:25 PM

Off to posting the corpse, then, am I right? ^-^

The corpse named Discombobulated Dish-washing Wonder Malarkey.
I love it how the titles never make any sense and I can't even understand half of the words... But hey, what the heck. There's always an online dictionary -_-''

Yep. Everyone repeatedly poke Censored. Perhaps in the eye. He only needs one to post, right?

XD I say you should contribute a word in Finnish in the next round.

Buoysel March 19th, 2009 7:07 PM

I posted it before anyone could poke me. HA, take that society!

JX Valentine April 19th, 2009 3:44 PM

Yeah, I know it's been a month since round three ended, but there's reasons why I haven't started round four yet. Namely, bunch of crap happened between the end of round three and now, and, well, real-life sucks.

Anyway, we could do a fourth round, but I'm just wondering if anyone's interested in doing so. It may be slow-going for this round as well on the updating side of things because I really don't even know where I'll be living for half the summer let alone whether or not I'll be mooching off someone's interwebs, but we'll see what comes out of that.

In any case, if you're interested, just put your name down here, and if we get a reasonable amount of people, we'll get the next round launched.

Shrike Flamestar April 20th, 2009 10:15 AM

...I'd be interested. :O

I mean, it's just a page. One page. I don't know what's up in other people's lives to prevent them from finding the time needed to write a single page of writing which could be done in a half hour or less once you get a basic idea for what to write. Really, with something like this, you don't even need an idea. Just take what you get and write the craziest, most off the wall thing that comes to mind.

Even if it's just one short page, I've found that I quite like doing this. They remind me of the writing exercises we did in school where the teacher would give you some prompt and then you had to write whatever came to mind. They were annoying to me at the time, but given what I do in school now I'd kill to have those back...

An-chan April 20th, 2009 11:05 AM

I'm in. I can also pretend to be three different people if we don't get enough writers otherwise xD I really kind of love doing this...

Actually, now that I think of it... If we only get a few people, it might be interesting to do a double round, so that everyone gets two turns. It might have some fun effects on the final product, especially if people try to be on the same storyline on both turns.

Then again, I see no reason why we wouldn't get enough people. There hasn't been a shortage of people before... Although, it is the busiest time in school right now. Still, like Shrike said, one page. I just suggested just in case.

Ninja Caterpie April 20th, 2009 3:43 PM

I'll go.

It's only the beginning of Term 2.

Although it could get to the half-yearlies by the time I get my turn. :O Might even get to next holidays. xD

Astinus April 20th, 2009 4:15 PM

That last corpse was never even finished. =/

And I'll join in with this next one. I can easily write a page for this corpse on my breaks at work.

Shrike Flamestar April 20th, 2009 5:33 PM

Technically I believe it was finished however so many people dropped out that I don't think even the last person realized they were the last person. :S

EDIT: Okay, I guess the last person was the tail all along, but I guess it was just that so few people wrote compared to how many signed up that we were all expecting more entries and, in part due to the lack of a good old fashioned "the end," we all were just caught unaware.

If we say it's Coleridge-esque, we can get away with never finishing it. *bricked for English major humor*

Shrike Flamestar April 20th, 2009 5:40 PM

...Well that's a first, someone posting while I was editing. X_x That's an all new sort of ninja post...

Anyways, I added this: Okay, I guess the last person was the tail all along, but I guess it was just that so few people wrote compared to how many signed up that we were all expecting more entries and, in part due to the lack of a good old fashioned "the end," we all were just caught unaware.

So...

*Joins in on the brick throwing as he is not an English major and does not get the joke although assumes it's a reference to someone who always leaves stories hanging.*

This is totally not why it took me a month to edit in the link. Of course not.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge once got high on opium, wrote half a poem about his drug-induced dreams, but got sidetracked when someone knocked on his door and talked to him for over an hour until he forgot what the dream was about. :D

(This, unfortunately, is not the only instance of Coleridge completely failing at finishing something.)
