UU Raze: Shoddy UU RMT
I couldn't think of a good title...sue me. Anyway, my old UU team was a complete success, but I decided to work on it. What it turned out to be was a "Moderate", holding plenty of bulk, but isn't lackluster on the offensive. On the Shoddy UU ladder, it's undefeated thus far, but I've only done 7 matches with it. Anyway, here's what I got.
KO (Scyther) (M) @ Choice Band Ability: Technician EVs: 252 Atk/6 Def/252 Spd Jolly nature - Aerial Ace - Brick Break - Pursuit - U-Turn Literally, this kills everything that isn't faster. Choice Band Technician Aerial Ace really hurts, and Flying is a great offensive type in UU with many Bugs, Grass, and Fighters here and there. U-Turn decimates Hypno and Grumpig, puts the dent on many Darks, and allows me to scout for their counter.. Pursuit is sorta glitched on Shoddy with Technician, doing 80 base power regardless of a switch or not. I guess Technician takes it as a x2 boost or something...anyway, useful asset. --- Terrorizing UUs Forever More (Steelix) (F) @ Leftovers Ability: Sturdy EVs: 252 HP/60 Atk/198 SDef Relaxed nature - Earthquake - Stone Edge - Stealth Rock - Roar If I can survive a CB Close Combat from Machamp with this thing, then that's saying something. Steelix is an absolute UU monster, posing the most usage in UU according to statistics. I'm considering Crunch > Stone Edge to hit Rotom and psychics harder, but I lose coverage on flying types. Stealth Rock and Roar are self-explanatory. EVs are to give it more general survivability after seeing its defense is already sky-high, and I'm unsure why I haven't changed Relaxed to Impish, but it at least helps it some against TR teams. One thing you might be asking yourself: Why Female? Well, Nidoking commonly runs Rivalry to fare against the many people who don't change genders on their Pokemon. Female REALLY helps against Nidoking, dropping its power. --- O_O_O_O_O_O_O_O (Claydol) @ Leftovers Ability: Levitate EVs: 252 HP/144 Def/114 SAtk Bold nature - Rapid Spin - Earth Power - Ice Beam - Psychic It's a Claydol smiley for the name, and Claydol actually fits somewhat well on this team. I needed a spinner, and that coverage works well. --- Give me Flare Blitz! (Flareon) (M) @ Leftovers Ability: Flash Fire EVs: 252 HP/6 SAtk/252 SDef Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk) - Flamethrower - Hidden Power [Ground] - Wish - Toxic Flareon may seem like a joke, but it's a great counter to Ninetales, Froslass, and Weezing. HP Ground is there, just in case Ninetales tries to hide behind a Substitute. Toxic really hampers those Claydol and Bulky water switch-ins. --- the golden gun (Golduck) (M) @ Expert Belt Ability: Cloud Nine EVs: 6 Def/252 Spd/252 SAtk Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Calm Mind - Psychic - Surf - Focus Blast Golduck is rarely seen these days, but it's a MENACE in UU. Its ability, Cloud Nine, shuts down any and all Swift Swim and Chlorophyll Pokemon out there. Calm Mind is for late-game to buff my special attack up some to ensure that things die. The moves are simple: Surf for STAB, Psychic for Qwilfish and Toxicroak, and Focus Blast to slam Lapras and many others hard. --- Sims is proud of me (Vileplume) (F) @ Leftovers Ability: Chlorophyll EVs: 252 HP/180 Def/78 SDef Calm nature - Leech Seed - Sludge Bomb - Aromatherapy - Energy Ball Of course, I need SOME protection against water, so here's Vileplume, courteously for Sims because he's awesome. Leech Seed incoming Pokemon, Sludge Bomb or Energy Ball, and use Aromatherapy as I see fit. --- The team now has some resort against Rain Dance teams, but they're still troublesome. |
Pretty good team, although I would make slight changes.
Scyther - U-turn might be more handy instead of X-Scissor, just for the sake of scouting for counters. Plus it hits almost as hard. Steelix - Consider giving it 252 sp.def EVs because it doesn't need the attack at all, being so bulky and abusing SR and Roar. Claydol - Fine, you might wanna try Shadow Ball instead of Psychic to hit Rotom harder and other Psychics. Altaria - Personally I find that running Draco Meteor + Fire Blast is far more useful if you're not using the DD set. Draco Meteor already hits nicely incoming sweepers and can wear them down eventually. Fire Blast is for Steelix and grassers. I gave mine Heal Bell because it does the job better than slow pokemon like Vileplume. Grumpig - Neat, I'm just afraid it's not gonna last long without any speed or hit hard enough without sp.atk EVs. Vileplume - If you decide to give Altaria Heal Bell, you could change Vileplume to broken Venusaur and use Sleep Powder instead. Overall: looks decent, however, Glaceon can be a big threat if Grumpig dies to a strong physical attack (namely Pursuit). |
yeh I was the person battle him yeh he got me with toxic on the switch i didnt know lol XP yeh nice team hope u go far wit it.

With SR support and being completely walled by Altaria, Draco Meteor will do more than enough if you put some Sp.Atk EVs there. It hits 210 damage while EQ reaches 200.. (although Ninetales Def is lower than its Sp.Def).
Fighters are gonna switch out from Claydol anyway, and usually they're not even OHKO'd by it. Earth Power is a nice 2HKO most likely, although I'm not sure. |
There is one HUGE weakness to this team...I just got swept by it: Froslass.
NEED FROSLASS AND ICE PROTECTION NOW! |
Seeing as Froslass is extremely frail, Bullte Punch Hitmonchan or a Houndoom can work. When facing Froslass, they gun it down western-style and throw it back into the saloon, just like the Cartwrights do in Bonanza. Other noise-makers in the Froslass counter department are Lanturn, who can resist most of Froslass' attacks, and Shuckle, who can resist Froslass and OHKO back with Gyro Ball.

drop grumpig or claydol for camerupt, pls. i love you long time ;)
torkoal is something to consider over claydol who is a potentially good sleep absorber in UU. that way, you can accommodate grumpigs moveset to take care of pokes like froslass (twave or light screen, etc). flareon walls glaceon + froslass + ninetales like crazy, has wish. sub/wish + 2 other moves is hard to handle in UU. it has the option of being special or physical, so that's a plus. finally, rapidash. did i just name a whole bunch of fire type UUs? damn right i did! xD |
lol thanks Samson. Flareon has been looking as my option, but I NEED a spinner. I could definitely drop Grumpig for Flareon, who will pass Wish around, but then I have no form of a cleric, and it makes me extremely reliant on Claydol to spin away SR. I could try it over Altaria. However, what moves could Flareon run, as well as EVs?
well hardcore, I see your logic, but some of it is flawed. Houndoom is BL, and Shuckle does not OHKO Froslass with Gyro Ball coming off of that crappy...50 attack. Lanturn has to deal with Shadow Ball still, but yes, it can take on Froslass. Oh yeah, earlier, I peeked at the top 50 (#48), so go me. Major team update: Check it out. |
