Who Still Plays the Classic Versions?

I do and in my opinion, the graphics don't define the game, the gameplay such as the story line and such is what really matters. And plus, without these games, we would have D/P or R/S/E
Just saying.
What's your opinion?

Parabolic August 28th, 2008 8:35 PM

I play them for the nostalgia. I get really old school with Green Version, too. First EVER POKeMON game. :)

Silent_Storm August 28th, 2008 8:46 PM

Really? I thought Yellow was. Huh.
Yeah I play for the nastalgia as well. The newer games get boring sometimes...

Parabolic August 28th, 2008 9:39 PM

What? Yellow was made after Red and Blue... how can it be the first?
Green was released a year before Red and Blue and it was never released state-side. ;)

NOTE: Gyarados looks high in Green Version. >.>;

Ramengan August 28th, 2008 9:54 PM

Weren't Red and Green released at the same time in Japan? Their Green was just the same as our Blue, that's all. (And their Blue was the same as our Green--except we never got a Green Version :X) To be really technical, though, our Red and Blue were based on the Japanese Blue's engine with just the version exclusives of the Red and Green games, respectively. But enough of that.

I've played Red and Blue, but not much into Yellow. Out of them, I preferred Red. If I want to play the "old" games I usually stick to the 3rd Gen remakes, due to better movesets and stuff. Missingno. and Mew Glitch were always fun, though.

Kenaime August 28th, 2008 10:05 PM

The Oldest One I have (other than the ROMS) is Gold Version. and Hellz yeah i play it
I play It 4 Nostalgia and also because it was just more fun in the Johto region than anywhere else. at least in my opinion

Parabolic August 28th, 2008 10:09 PM

Well this is in respect to the american Blue and Red versions... the only Japanese game I have in the series is Green.

But yes. Green and Red were released at the same time in Japan. The Red and Blue we know is just the 3rd game in the series, Blue, and a Red version of it. The POKeMON were redesigned to look better and some encounters were changed like the ability to catch a Lickitung in the wild and the Unknown Dungeon was totally redesigned.

Lol, I still play Red, Blue and Yellow regularly, but I'm not too keen on Yellow, cos although Pikachu rocks, it's not a great starter for the game!
Give me a Bulbasaur or Squirtle anyday!

Guillermo August 29th, 2008 3:02 AM

Yeah I still play them, they own. Nothing wrong with them except the graphics!

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ August 29th, 2008 8:10 AM

since I lost my 1st generation games except for Yellow, I play them on a VBA.

alisaie August 29th, 2008 7:10 PM

Oh yes~ Though I don't play my Blue often because it's hard to train for the Elite Four in R/B/Y, I still play my Silver a lot. :3

Because... Johto > Every other region. Plus the fact you can go back to Kanto~ ^_^ Many more reasons, but yeah. XD;

Silent_Storm August 29th, 2008 7:23 PM

I never got into it because I got Yellow when I was a little kid and never looked into it. G/C/S were really good too. Johto is the best region.

(Dusty<3) August 29th, 2008 7:28 PM

o.o^
me do!
I play them because they rule of course! ^w^

Silent_Storm August 29th, 2008 8:06 PM

I know they are the best ^_^

XD
<3 Johto pride!

I still play G/S/C games. They're really good especially on story line and even graphics. I mean it is the only Generation that has Radio on it. :P

Banjora Marxvile August 30th, 2008 2:16 AM

I still want to play my Classic games, but I can't find them. Also I thought it was green and Blue in Japan, but I think I'm wrong...

Roy G. Biv August 30th, 2008 3:45 AM

I play my Crystal all the time (my Gold and Silver's internal battery died on meh ._.)

I even play Yellow sometimes, although I never really liked that arc. I didn't enjoy FR/LG much, either.

Aniram August 30th, 2008 7:05 AM

If I could find any of my others I'd definitely play them, but for now I just have Red and I'm definitely playing it. I can't even really play post-Y2k Pokemon games because I just can't stay focused on them. RBYGSC any day, man. Brilliant, genius games they are, and the new ones only wish they could hold up to their glory.

dabridge August 30th, 2008 7:20 AM

I still play yellow quite a lot, since I lost Red/Blue, and Gold/Silver have thier save batteries dead. D:

Silent_Storm August 30th, 2008 8:00 AM

Here's my story: I got Yellow when I was a kid. I didn't know what to do. I lost it, then found it. And now I'm playing it again so I can actually get far in the game. Also, when I first played Yellow, I couldn't find out how to get past the old guy laying on the ground. xD

Blayze August 30th, 2008 12:07 PM

I still play my Red and Yellow on occasion. Especially if I'm looking to play with something strange. (IE the glitches)

.:Kanto:. August 30th, 2008 3:34 PM

I have Silver but can't play it because the internal battery has died...Never got a chance to really play it. I bought it off a friend with a Gameboy Color. Oh well..

Kip August 30th, 2008 4:14 PM

Funny this should pop up actually, 'cos I found my Silver the other day (with it's 8-year old game, 'cos I never start new ones) and found that the file save had been corrupted. No doubt it was all that work with the old ActionReplay :) So I started it again, and I'm playing it now.

Out of the first generation, I would say I liked Yellow the best (don't hate me!!) because there were significant improvements over Red and Blue, and you had the added bonus of a Pikachu following you around (awwww! ^^)

The second generation... I would probably go for Crystal... I've always liked it best out of the others for some reason. I suppose this means I tend to like the special editions of things... well, maybe not. I always preferred Ruby and Sapphire to Emerald with it's botched bag system. :D

Master Jecht August 30th, 2008 5:02 PM

i recently played gold to do a mono type challenge with all fire pokemon. It was fun and brought back so many memories as i played through. I really like how fast the battling was back in those versions.
