Automobile Club

The club is for those who like cars almost as much as they like Pokemon. Whether or not you own one or even drive a car. If you like ‘em, this is the place to discuss them. Discussions can include anything from history of cars, car repair, or the future of cars. This includes your personal likes and dislikes of brands, but do not flame others because of their personal opinion.

lol, glad I found this!

SO ANYWAY YEAH. DISCUSS CARS OR BIKES, OR WHATEVAR.

Buoysel September 6th, 2008 11:58 AM

Do you prefer a car or a truck?

I prefer a Truck, and to be more particular, single cab long bed. I just like they way it looks.

Oh yeah, one more thing, has to be a V8 :D

I drive a car, only because of the of stupid gas prices, (-_-) nothing like an inline 4 when it comes to fuel economy.

22sa September 6th, 2008 12:16 PM

I prefer a car, compact car with good handling and awesome acceleration, with long-lasting drift tires & a 10000 rpm engine.

Bumping this thread, so to speak.

I got a job at Auto Zone. It is sure to put me in a position that I will be able to learn many new things about cars. If you have questions for an Auto Zone employee, well here is the place to post them.

I want to put an 11000 rpm engine (*cough*Initial D reference*cough*) in a 3-door Toyota Yaris... but where do I get such an engine? :P

Do you think you are the only one to try and prank an AutoZoner? (old time classic: muffler bearings.)

I would suggest a Hayabusa engine. Kind like those smart car conversions you see on youtube.

Auto Zone is more there for Auto Repair. We don't sell many Motorcycle parts. Ironically I ordered an air filter for a Kawasaki today.

EDI: To answer you question: the internet, 'cause we sure don't have it.

22sa September 12th, 2008 7:56 PM

What's the highest revving engine you DO have then?

Buoysel September 12th, 2008 8:09 PM

I'm not at work now (obliviously), and we only carry OEM replacement create engines.

I could not tell you for sure. I'm sure that we carry some early 90's V-Tec Honda engines. They red line around 8k. I know that you can usually squeeze another grand out of it.

But quit playing around with those toys. Get some real power and go V8. nothing like five hundred and something cubic inches of displacement roaring to life at 3200 rpm. :D

8k V-tec sounds cool though I'd really rather have at least 10k.

What is your work there exactly btw? You're 17.. so I take it you don't have a very technical job there yet?

I have no concept about this "displacement" thing btw. xD

Being under the age of 18 the only thing I can't do is test take the mobile tester out to the car.

you want an engine that goes over 10k, get a motor cycle engine.

An engine is measured by: the total volume of fuel/air mixture that engine is capable of drawing into all cylinders during one operating cycle. To put it simply, a standard 2.4 liter V6 actually pulls in 2.4 liters of fuel/air mixture during the time it takes for all six cylinders to make one complete revolution through the engine.

Nothing like a 440. (for you modern day people 7.2 L) the only thing you wont pass is a gas station.

Yah but is a motorcycle engine the same as a cars?

I mean, I'd like at least a 250 HP engine with as much torque as possible. Then I'll add a supercharger and a turbo to it.

Buoysel September 13th, 2008 5:48 AM

Something I always wanted to build: 318 (5.2L) engine with some Magnum heads. A 340 cam, with a high performance intake, headers, and crab.

318s are easy to find, they are extremely reliable, and still have decent power, if fixed up. They are a V8. IT would be neat to drop down into a 70's Chrysler A body.

Did I mention that parts for 318 are be easy to acquire, and are relatively cheap compared to other engines?

Voltagenic September 13th, 2008 4:12 PM

lol, I don't know THAT much about cars to really join this discussion.

I'm mostly concerned about the looks and interior.

And I'm the AUTHORITY on makes and models. Give me a picture, I can tell you. (Years, well.... I'm working on that.)

Let's have a new topic.

What's the best new car out right now?

Dodge Challenger FTW.

For average people: The Kia Borrego looks promising.

Buoysel September 13th, 2008 4:26 PM

^ Agree 110%I care about whats under the hood. I can see a car, and tell you approximate year, make, and model.

Test for voltenic: What is this car?

That's one huge engine... are you referring to Muscle cars?

I'm looking for 2.5 L engine max.

OH yeah, V8 power.

hmm small four banger, Try the Honda F serises.

And try the vTec. My car has the one of those engines (F22A), and it is not fast by any means, but it is in an accord (3000lbs). I'm sure that if the motor was in a little car, such as a civic hatch (~1200lbs), it would fly.

Seriously, only 150 Torque? I wonder if that can make a hatchback accelerate to 60 miles/h in under 5.0 seconds. 200 HP is good enough though I guess, for a small car.

And I haven no idea what that car in that pic is.

That's stock, put a K&N air filter on, turbo it, heater, exhaust, parts are chap, check eBay.

When heavy accelerating, I shift out of third at 75.

Miles/H? Hey that's really good : P. I would want my car focused on acceleration.

8k with 150 torque stock eh? Bringing it to 10k would require a whole new engine right? Meh... did you work today?

Yes I worked today. If you want a car that goes 0 to 60 in less than 5 sec, buy a new challenger. Because You will be spending a hole cape load of money on fixing a car up.

Did I mention that my car has 285,000 miles on it?

V8s don't typically go over 6k rpm. inline 4 usually don't go more than 7k.

10k is really high, and I mean really high. Like I said, get a motor cycle engine.

A challenger's too heavy & big... I want a car that's Impreza-size or smaller. Like I said, can a motorcycle engine work in a car? Can its torque and HP go over 240?

lmao That's an insane amount of milege. I wonder if there's any car that's hit 1 million.

Are you going to study Aerospace Engineering at Uni?

A sock Challenger still runs 12 seconds. Not to mention you would have one of the most wanted cars in America. This video has a Smart Car that uses a Hayabusa engine.

The highest I have ever personally seen is 667,000. It was on a 1999 Dodge Van that was used by an airport as a shuttle van. It had a rod though the block.

BTW it is not uncommon for a big rig to rack up over a million miles.

And number two: How did you know I wanted to study Aerospace Engineering? o.O

Well, mechanical and aerospace engineering so you can get an official degree on cars & do more stuff. :P

Wow! That's really, really cool. Hayabusa engine... I take it it costs a lot though? Got an ruff idea of the price of buying & installing a Hayabusa engine?

No, sorry no price, I would guess less than 15 K for the Hayabusa bike. Hayabusas are a stock 10 second bike. That would be good enough for me.

22sa September 15th, 2008 3:05 PM

Toyota Yaris base - $14k
Bike with awesome engine - $20k
Replacing engine - $4k (or will the labour be more then this?)

$38k? :P lol I can almost buy an Impreza with that. Darn it.

Btw how did that smart car go so fast... Wikipedia mentioned the Hayabusa is only 171 HP... that's not a lot. I realize the smart car is very light but is 171 HP really all it took for it do what it did?

But I like the bike performance. 0-60 mph 2.77 seconds. Kickass. But I get a hatchback it would be a) bigger then Smart, c) I wouldn't take out any seats... my car will probably be 1.3x as heavy as the Smart they tested...
would it still be able to reach 290 km/h or 0-100 km/h in under 5 seconds?

Smart - 810 kg
Yaris - 1010 kg
Focus - 1420 kg

Focus would definately be too big.

Buoysel September 15th, 2008 5:01 PM

Sorry I'm not an import guy. (Ironically I drive a Honda (Dam gas prices)). I'm an American Muscle type of guy, Mopar.

Horse power does not matter. I know that does not make since, but Torque matters more.

Good luck. It is not an American car.

Voltagenic September 15th, 2008 6:43 PM

I can't figure out if it's a Dodge or a Chrysler (it's from that era in Chrysler where they had that 5-star emblem).

I can't figure out the model either.

It IS a Mopar.

Buoysel September 15th, 2008 6:47 PM

I had one, the funnest car I ever drove. Chrysler Laser. I could jerk the well going down the road at more that 50 mph, and never break the tires loose. I need to get me on of them again.

These two pics are form that car:

No, I understand. It's Torque that matters when acceleration is in question, but the Hayabusa bike only has 103 torque!

How can just 103 torque make the 810 kg smart car accelerate so fast? I don't get it... is it because of the 11k rev? But 103 is really, really normal, it's hard to imagine the 11k suddenly made the 103 torque smart car perform like a super car. I really don't get it. I like this engine for its rpm, but its bike's specs are actually quite low... that Smart car must've had some other Hayabusa engine perhaps?

I can't see those links, btw. Try *.com

The car is just a body. Everything has been striped, and that engine is not stock.

The Hayabusa's bike stats are quite impressive. Stock they run 10 seconds in the quarter mile.

15 seconds is considered quick. Anything under 14, is consider pretty quick.

13 seconds is "holy **** that was fun."

Anything under 12 seconds will pin you to the back of your seat.

I'm guess you have never been thrown back in your seat have you? And I'm not talking set you back, I'm talking violently thrown in to the seat. It's like having a really big guy pressing on your chest. You kinda of sink in to the seat.

22sa September 17th, 2008 6:21 PM

Hmm... so the Smart's Hayabusa engine was not stock; it was upgraded.... how powerful do you imagine that Smart car's Hayabusa engine is then?

Yeah 10 seconds is like a super car I don't need thaaaat fast. But I do want something like 4.6 second 0-60 mph.

Yeah I've never felt that big an impact. I've only driven 1.8L Front Wheel Drives at best.

Why do you think I like V8's. It is the trill of a life time.

What is your dream project car, and what do you plan on putting into it?

Late 80's Dodge Diplomat Cop Car edition.

Have the heads and intake ported, high compression pistons, racing intake, high performance carb, K&N air filter, Headers, exhaust,

Out side, I want the car to look like a normal 4 door granny car.

I want a sleeper. How do you like your rice, steamed or fired?

Oiii... don't overlook my question. What do you reckon the specs that non-stock Hayabusa engine of that Smart car were? xD

What's a sleeper? Why granny look =o

I like my rice both ways equally XP

Dream car project:

~[A super cute Toyota Yaris-size 3-door hatchback], 1100 kg, Manual Transmission
~11k RPM Engine, Supercharger and/or Turbocharger, racing upgrades, 250 HP and Torque
~Awesome cute anime car stickers on it

Buoysel September 18th, 2008 3:10 AM

A sleeper is a car that looks completely stock, and then blows your door off.

Granny cars, are cars that look like a car that a grandma would drive.

Body style of a mid 80's Diplomat.

http://www.lincoln.ne.gov/city/police/vehicles/dip2.jpg

My car won't have the light bar on top. And I don't know the specks on that engine.

22sa September 18th, 2008 5:14 AM

Yeah, that'd be awesome a car that looks like nothing but is actually a true monster under the hood haha.

But according to your knowledge, how much can you really increase an 103 Torque Hayabusa engine by?

Buoysel September 18th, 2008 8:55 AM

An engine is like a vacuum cleaner, the more air you can move though it, the better. Anything that allows or puts more air though the engine the better.

To answer your question, a lot. It all depends on how deep your pocket is.

I don't have it yet. And you should make some realistic goals first. Another car I would not mind fixing up is a first generation neon. They are very easy to work on.

22sa September 19th, 2008 1:38 PM

Why are they easy?

Well, realistic: Honda CRX 1991 - $1500
200 HP Hayabusa base engine + turbo - $30000

$31500 better be enough... it better be... it better be.

They are easy, because they are half snapped together, and the other half is only held on by a couple of bolts.

Surprisingly, it is works. The only problem I ever had with a Neon was the head gasket.

$31,000. Will that be cash or credit?

Guillermo September 19th, 2008 4:59 PM

I guess I can join, since I love Dodge Viper's Bugatti Veyrons and Gallardo's:)

It will be short-term credit.

Welcome DarkMaster.

Buoysel September 19th, 2008 5:46 PM

Welcome friend. No welcome wagon here, sorry.

Jumping back on topic. How do you plan on coming up with $30,000?

I can easily make the money legally in three months.

And what kind of turbo are you buying? I can find a turbo kit for a Neon on eBay for 3k.

Guillermo September 19th, 2008 5:53 PM

What do you mean by no welcome wagon here? Thanks for the welcome:)

I will easily have 30 grand by I am 18, since I already have 50 grand in my bank haha.

Wow, My balance is 212, And that's only because I just got paid. ^.^'

Guillermo September 19th, 2008 6:09 PM

Oh well when my pop died before I was born he invested all his money (Which was A LOT!) into the bank, for me, my sister and a few cousins. Since he knew he would die (Smoking!) he sold everything he could and got...about $1000000.

Buoysel September 19th, 2008 6:39 PM

Must be nice to have money. I have to work for everything I have, and want.

Sorry to hear that about your dad. My grandma died form throat cancer caused by smoking.

Moving back on cars:

Whats your favorite brand?

I always wanted to say: Mopar or no car. But I drive a Honda, so I cant say that.

I am really impressed with my Honda. So I am going to have to say Dodge, followed closely by Honda, but only pre 1995. They started crapping out on there designs after that.

22sa September 19th, 2008 8:30 PM

Subaru, Suzuki, Honda, Ferrari and Toyota.

lol When I get working, of course. Will probably take me a few years though.

Voltagenic September 19th, 2008 9:42 PM

I'm smitten with Paganis.

It wasn't my dad. It was my pop. Pop= Great Grandad here in Australia:) Favourite brand of car would have to be....Toyota or Nissan. Toyota Supra and Nissan Skyline are both good cars:)

Voltagenic September 22nd, 2008 2:36 PM

Man, I saw this BEAUTIFUL red Gallardo yesterday...

Buoysel September 22nd, 2008 3:54 PM

There have been so many times that I want to tell someone that I work at Auto Zone, not Tractor Zone.[/Random bit of madness]

I did some shopping online, I only need $44,300 more to buy the '09 Challenger. (MSRP $44,385)

New topic D:

What is the coolest feature you have seen in a car?

We're talking about bells and whistles here folks. What's the coolest thing you've seen INSIDE a car? Windows? A radio? Carpet? We want to know.

For me, I think that Chill Zone glove compartment in the Dodge Caliber is pretty cool. no pun intended.

Buoysel September 22nd, 2008 5:54 PM

What is the coolest feature you have seen in a car?

On my Accord, I can still use the power windows even if the ignition is off, and the key has been pulled from the ignition, as long as I don't open the door.

New topic to ponder:

When gas reached __ dollars a gallon, I will stop driving.(fill in the blank.)

Its not a number for me, its when I can no longer afford to fill my gas take once a month :D

I don't drive, but if it gets to 5 bucks a gallon, I'm buying some new Nikes and walking.

Guillermo September 23rd, 2008 12:36 AM

That is an easy question. 3 bucks a gallon I will buy a bike and catch a bus.

How much to you pay in Australia. Because I payed 3.27 a gallon the other day. And I consider that cheap. (I have payed 4.64 a gallon before.)

22sa September 24th, 2008 7:33 PM

I couldn't care less about gasoline price

lul My improved Honda CRX can crush ur new Challenger any day ^_-

Guillermo September 25th, 2008 12:48 AM

Buoysel we pay $1.60 a litre on average.

That's $6.06 a gallon.

We pay $0.88 a liter.

The Challenger SRT8 goes form 0-60 in 5.2 seconds, and 70 to 0 in 102 feet. In the quartet mile, they run 12 or 13 seconds. And that's all sock. Imagine how fast they go a fixed up.

You're kidding, right?

My Challenger could crush YOUR HOUSE, let alone your CRX.

Screw CRX; Challengers are a lot more awesome.

LAMO.

I saw a SRT10 pickup at the laundry mat the other day.
I though, they are rich enough to own buy one of those trucks, but they don't have a washing machine at home?

Guillermo September 30th, 2008 3:58 AM

I was blinded by beauty today. I saw a Gallardo and a Ferraro Enzo parked next to each other. I was blinded. I was so sad because I didn't have my phone or camera.

lol pwned.

Then again, I seldom carry my phone.

Why didn't you just stare until it became imprinted in your memory?

EDIT: opinions on the R8 banner?

Buoysel October 2nd, 2008 4:15 PM

R8?

Its not a Dodge, so its is a POS.

Spaking of Dodges, I am hopefully going to by a 97 Sport Neon tonigh. It was overheated, an now does not run right, I think the head gasket is blown, worst case seniro, need new head.

5 speed manual, + DOHC, = great gas millage + fast.

How about a 10 second SRT 10 Viper?

BTW I got the Neon.

From the looks of it, blown headgasket = easy fix ^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^

2.0L nice.

Drifting time $

Voltagenic October 4th, 2008 5:21 PM

Anyone seen the new Italdesign Quaranta?

Get this: It's comparable to Lambo, etc, but it's a hybrid. Don't trip, I said it's a HYBRID.

Pictures and info galore in the latest issue of Motor Trend.

EDIT: Buoysel, how much is on the odometer?

Buoysel October 4th, 2008 7:54 PM

165

____________

I spent 13 hours replacing the head gasket.

I tore down the engine, and got the head back on and tested compression:

cylinders 1 and 4 had 30psi.

cylinders 2 and 3, 0psi

what they are supposed to have 175 - 200psi

I got me a warped head. :(

Voltagenic October 7th, 2008 5:14 PM

yeah.

just take that thing to a shop, bro

Nope, I already found a good engine for 300, only problem, i only have 50. *sigh* I guess it will have to wait till next pay check, which is 9 days away :( (I hate waiting.)

I can't wait to have this car going. It will be quick once I get done with it. This is the exact kind of car I was wanting to build up. I am going to try to keep it at a stock appearance.

Voltagenic October 20th, 2008 7:40 PM

Yes.

Do NOT bother with all those spoilers and crap.

They'll ruin the essence of the car!

BTW what colour is it

EDIT: HEY, IT'S BEEN 8 DAYS! HOW GOETH THE CAR?

Black, has factory spoiler, and it does run, it has a slightly rough idle, but it will not start if the engine is warm, I think it may have a bad MAP sensor.

Voltagenic October 27th, 2008 5:55 PM

22sa October 29th, 2008 8:34 PM

Lotus? Yeah I guess that's a great car.

I'm still thinking of getting a upgraded CRX--only problem is I don't want its front view drive. I need either a read wheel drive or an all wheel drive. Know much about converting a front drive to a rear drive?

Takes a lot of time and money, easier to just buy a RWD vehicle.

22sa October 29th, 2008 8:58 PM

Yeah well how much money? Not $10k+ right? Right? No way right?

I don't want to settle for a Corolla AE86 instead. :< It's beautiful, but too obvious.
