Is Gold/Silver playable on the original GB?
I know it sounds stupid but just listen to me. There are three types of Game Boy cartridges:
Game Boy cartridges Games like Pokemon Red and Blue that were designed for use in the Game Boy and Game Boy Pocket systems. They are playable in the GBC with a changeable color palette of 4-10 colors. Game Boy Color cartridges Remember those clear see-through cartridges? Those are playable only on the GBC. Games like this include Pokemon Crystal and Super Mario Bros. DX. Dual cartridges These cartridges can basically be played on both the original Game Boy and the GBC, but unlike the original GB cartridges, when you play them on a GBC it can have up to 56 colors (instead of 10) and 4 shades of gray on the GB. I'm pretty sure Pokemon Gold and Silver are dual cartridges and this where you, the members of PokeCommunity come in... To those who have both an original Game Boy (that fat brick looking thing) and a copy of Gold or Silver, can you play GS on that original Game Boy? It's a question I've wanted to ask for a long time now. |
I just checked Wikipedia and it is a dual type cartage.

Well I don't know if it works, but I know that they all work with the next one, ie GB in GBC, GBC in GBA.
Never really tried backtracking, all I know is that Crystal doesn't fit into the slot on the DS. |
I'm not quite sure that they would. They were made as color games like Pikachu(Yellow) Version, for GBC so....
|
Yes they do. I just checked it myself. Crystal won't, but Gold and Silver will :)
|
Yes, they work, just with worse graphics. But who cares it works.

I don't have the previously-mentioned back cover of the game with the black and white screenshot and I couldn't find it online (I'll check eBay though) so I wouldn't know what it looks like. LONG LIVE THE GAME BOY!! |
Black and white oviously and it's ever so slightly messed up on a few pixels. Gengar's backsprite is messed up on mine when I play it on the original GB.
