2 strange things about Gold

Hi,
maybe some of u have already noticed these but I still think it's kinda odd...

First: On route 35 there's a guy below the grass on the right hand side. Normally trainers have exclamation points if u stand in front of them don't they? This one don't. He'll only fight if u talk to him.

Second: Go into the Burned Tower in Ecruteak City. Turn left where u have to use Rock Smash. There's a guy in an orange t - shirt. When I had beaten him his t-shirt has turned into grey! After going there again it was orange just like before...

I dunno if these things are strange but I've never noticed anything like that so far.

Mr. Pokemon September 18th, 2008 11:11 AM

I've never noticed the second one before. But about the first one, aren't there some trainers in all the games that you can only battle if you talk to them?

msdmario September 18th, 2008 12:42 PM

Yeah, they are a few trainers that you can only battle if you talk to them. The most notorious ones are the two police officers on Route 34 and 35. They only battle you at night.

For the second one, that Firebreather is suppose to turn grey. When you beat him, he says:

"I burned down to white ashes."

Once you are back onto the map, you'll notice that his sprite literally burned down to white ashes.

That was the cool thing about gold. I wish they did things like that in D/P and Platinum.

I remember the thing about the FireBreather, that was hilarious at the time. :p

Skip Class September 18th, 2008 5:13 PM

i was 6 when I first played it and i remember i thought the firebreather had died

シーツー September 19th, 2008 7:24 AM

Oh, I see. I was pretty astonished when it turned gray. They should really have something like that in the newer games.
Thanks for posting!

luke September 19th, 2008 8:11 AM

Wow, I never noticed that with the Firebreather before. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Necrono September 19th, 2008 8:13 AM

It's been seven years since I've played Silver. :| I can't believe how time flies by that quickly!

I do remember the policemen though. I think one of 'em had a Growlight. (sp?)

It is actually spelled Growlithe.

Anyway, both of them had only one Growlithe and I believe they were at Level 17 if I recall correctly.

Atomic Reactor September 19th, 2008 4:55 PM

and you didn't need to talk to them to battle.
They were like normal trainers at night. theyd walk up to you.

If i remember correctly :#

Well for the first one nintendo probably did that on purpose and the second on e could have been some sort of glitch maybe.

Jeremy September 20th, 2008 9:44 AM

Well sweetie, the first one was intentional. According to the that particular trainer's script coding. I assume to they did on purpose to surprise you with an unsuspected battle.

The second one is just a glitch with the assigned palette with the overworld sprites. It happened before, anybody remembering seeing a green Nurse Joy in Fuchsia City?

I should know this since I hack Gold inside and out. XD

MrsMime September 29th, 2008 8:47 PM

Wow I never knew that about the firebreather either. Neat-o.

dtrain24 September 30th, 2008 11:42 AM

Wow, I oughta check out the Firebreather again.

MrsMime September 30th, 2008 1:52 PM

I need to pick up Silver again anyways, I should too XD

Skaterzpenguin September 30th, 2008 4:35 PM

Yeah I notice another trainer before changing colors too, weird, but about the touching the trainer and start battling. That is normal lol

Azzurra October 6th, 2008 1:21 AM

I can answer the second one, I think it's because he has lost 'his fiery temper' or something that he was talking to you about before the battle, and to show he had, his shirt turned gray.

. October 12th, 2008 1:07 AM

The first one happened quite a bit to me. My curiosity usually led me to speak to them, expecting no battle, and end up in a battle >_<

Yeah! Because "the night is suspicious"! XD
I wish they still did that in DP, that was cool..even if you talk to them during the day they won't battle. You have to wait until night.

Syrex October 12th, 2008 7:49 PM

I can't say I remember this...

It's been... about 3 years since I've last played gold.

Once I play it again, I'll pay more attention :D

Sorry for bothering you with strange translations at wich you don't probably care at all, but I think it's funny with the second odd fact, in the french translation he says he's getting sick, so it's possible that it's another thing in the original japanses version.

Then, you know the there were a part of the day called "morning" and it was removed from Pearl and Diamond, and I just realize that the chipset colors were a little bit different in the day that in the morning, although I'd been playing this game for 8 years ;_;

rayz321 October 15th, 2008 2:17 PM

wow that is weird too bad i dont have gold

That's true. Evidence of this is in the Pokedex! When you look at a Pokemon in the dex and select "area" (where you find it), on the touchscreen is the little icon (which is moveable via stylus to either direction) to say what time of day it's available (and the above map changes to correspond for obvious reasons). And the sequence is Morning, Day, and Night. So there you go!

emoBill™ October 18th, 2008 6:33 AM

The police guy only challenges you at night, because he thinks you look suspicious going around at night. I mean, if you talk to him in the day he battles you also, but he gets the exclamation point at night.
