In my opinion

Best - Houndoom. I just find them pretty cool.

Worst - Gloom. Gloom bores me you could say

Elys September 28th, 2008 1:15 PM

I have to agree with some of you and say that Magikarp is the worst of the worst.
And the great one... Charizard! It's pretty awesome, and his firts pre-evolution is my starter XD!

True Reign September 28th, 2008 2:06 PM

Best: Squirtle

Crissy September 28th, 2008 4:45 PM

Best:mew.It can learn every move

Worst:magikarp.It's so hard to train:'(

ImmunityBow September 28th, 2008 5:33 PM

Best: I'd say Mewtwo, but if you mean advanced gen, then I'd say Groudon

Worst: Sunkern. Totally.

♣Gawain♣ September 30th, 2008 7:59 AM

Worst? I bet Chansey is. All it has is a very huge body that account for the HP. All it does is evade and Softboiled, nothing else. Best is Mewtwo, no other(unless you have Lugia or Ho-oh or Deoxys, duh)

shanecdavis September 30th, 2008 9:05 AM

Actually, Chansey is one of the best Pokemon in the game. It is the second best special wall in the game, to its evolution Blissey. Chansey/Blissey was one of the main reasons GF changed the battle structure in DP. Here is your typical Chansey/Blissey cleric:

Blissey @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 204 HP / 252 Def / 52 SAtk
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Aromatherapy
- Ice Beam / Thunder Wave / Thunderbolt
- Seismic Toss
- Softboiled / Wish

Aromatherapy is used to cure all status ailments for your entire team. Ice Beam, Thunder Wave, or Thunderbolt is purely preference. TW is a guaranteed paralysis but no attack. IB/TB cause damage, and Serene Grace doubles the percentage of the opponent becoming frozen/paralyzed. Seismic Toss can break through most standard Substitutes and gives Blissey a consistent attack. Softboiled or Wish is also preference. Softboiled will increase its own HP by 50%, but Wish can be used to increase a teammate's HP by 50%. If played correctly, it is very difficult to faint.

Mewtwo still is, and always will be, the greatest Pokemon of not only FireRed, but of the entire Third Gen.

Water PKMN Trainer September 30th, 2008 10:49 AM

The best between Mewtwo and Chansey/ Blissey but 1 of the worst I would say is Sunkern

Braeden23000 September 30th, 2008 11:09 AM

Best - Mewtwo (duh)
Best (lon-legend) - Dragonite
Worst - Zubat (its not that bad of a poke, but i hate it so much)

Magikarp has to be in the top 10 of my favorites. I might do me a solo magikarp run...

Hedgehog September 30th, 2008 1:04 PM

Best mewtwo Kickass
Worst Zubat T.T dont like them

Hitsu September 30th, 2008 7:01 PM

Dragonite - the strongest pokemon. With hi on lv 65, I have beaten the hole E4 + Rival.
Magikarp - because its so awesome!

the worst is metapod, because all it does is harden.

Not if you catch a Caterpie. Metapod with tackle and string shot is actually a fairly nice Pokémon to start the game with.

No offense, but beating the weak in-game trainers does not make a strong Pokemon. I beat the Weak5 ("Elite" 4 and "rival") with a Lv45 Raichu.

A Lv65 Mewtwo can OHKO a Lv65 Dragonite (even with a +SDef nature and 31 HP/SDef IVs and 252 HP/SDef EVs). On the other hand, Lv65 Dragonite can only do 71% max damage against a Lv65 Mewtwo (even with a -SDef nature and 0 HP/SDef IVs and 0 HP/SDef EVs) with its best STAB move (Outrage) and only 96% with its best non-STAB move (Hyper Beam).

Mewtwo is undeniably the strongest Pokemon of the Advanced Gen.

.emerald October 1st, 2008 2:26 AM

Well, Magikarp has reason for being hated. All others are alright especially the evolutions...

Qwilfish October 1st, 2008 8:02 AM

Best = Qwilfish. Fwaah.

Worst? Hmm...possibly Caterpie. String Shot, Tackle, String Shot, Tackle, repeat...

Asday October 1st, 2008 8:32 AM

What's the tactic behind that? String shot reduces the opponent's speed until that mon leaves the battle. Switched out/fainted, etc.

If you take out personal opinion (which is running a muck in this thread) and just go by the total stats for the Pokemon in the game, here is the best (surprise) Pokemon in FireRed:

Mewtwo = 680 Total Base stats

The worst ends in a tie:

Caterpie = 195 Total Base stats
Weedle = 195 Total Base stats

Now, if you add ALL the different games (including DPP) the best is no contest:

Arceus = 720 Total Base stats

The worst:

Sunkern = 180 Total Base stats

Damn, Magikarp has 185 Base Stats in generation I (before Sp. Atk and Sp. Def were created) and 190 in Gen IV

But still, Sunkern may be the weakest Pokémon statistically, however, it does have higher stats in some areas than other Pokémon, and a much greater movepool than others

shanecdavis October 1st, 2008 10:09 AM

Actually, in 4th Gen Magikarp and Feebas were bumped to 200.

While Sunkern is the crappiest Pokemon in the game when it comes to stats (having 30 in each stats does absolutely NOTHING), if you factor in moveset and strategy it isn't too bad. It has a decent movepool to choose from and you can take advantage of a few other Pokemon in the NU metagame. Don't get me wrong, it still isn't a good Pokemon and is going to die quite easily to just about anything that can attack it.

The ALL-TIME worst Pokemon in the game today, when factoring in all of the above elements, is........ (drum roll)

Kricketot

This is by far the most worthless piece of crap Game Freak has ever thought of. Why it is even in the game is beyond me, although I don't hold a very high opinion of the 4th Gen in general. The only two moves it can ever know (that it is born with) are Bide and Growl. It doesn't get any more useless than that. With its crappy stats (Base 37 HP and 41 Def/SDef), good luck getting this thing to survive two turns to even get to use Bide. It's evolution isn't much better either. Great job on this one Game Freak.

Tanooki October 3rd, 2008 8:56 AM

What people consider the worst depends on personal preference. Sunkern has the worst stats in the game, while the VF bugs (Caterpie, Metapod, Weedle, Kakuna) and Magikarp have the worst movesets in the game. It depends on what is more important to a person; stats, or the moves the Pokemon learns.

In my opinion, one of the worst Pokemon not to be mentioned yet is Magcargo. I mean, seriously. This has to be the most pathetic excuse for an evolution ever created. You have to go through the pain of training the equally horrible Slugma all the way to Lv. 38, and this is your reward for doing so? A Pokemon with virtually no Speed at all, a horrible Attack stat, making most of the moves it learns like Rock Slide totally useless, a mediocre moveset, with Flamethrower being its only benefit, and a ton of weaknessess due to the absolutley ridiculous type combination of Fire/Rock. The only thing it has going for it is it has a high Defense stat, but what good does that do, considering it has more weaknessess than almost any other Pokemon in the game?

I honestly don't know why Game Freak even bothered with this, considering they gave Magcargo no benefits to using it at all. I guess it was created for the people who have beaten the game a couple of times that are bored of playing, so they give themselves a challange by using such a bad Pokemon.

The Exorcist October 4th, 2008 9:04 PM

I think Unknown is, best would be Dragonite just OWNAGE!!!

Lynnx October 5th, 2008 3:29 AM

Based on personal preference:

Best: Aerodactyl. Or Mewtwo, if it was stats.
Worst: Magikarp, I'd say.

Pachireecko January 11th, 2009 2:29 AM

But what if Magikarp knows tackle? Hidden power versus tackle...I'm still saying Unknown would lose!

Akeraz January 11th, 2009 3:12 AM

What's with all you people knocking magikarp, eh?
Flail makes Magikarp a Beast. And it's certainly not deserving of "The Worst 3rd Gen Pokémon"
And let's not forget it evolves into Gyrados, which doesn't need any explanation

And if we're going to go on personal preference here
Worst - Luvdisc

Best [I'm not going to pick a Legendary] - Swampert
