The Old Chateau is my favorite place to go in the game!
It's so creepy and awesome!
I visit the ghosts religiously, because I just love getting freaked out. ^_^

This is a story I heard about the place:
The Old Chateau is where Gardenia used to live. Her grandfather (the ghostly old man) was going to make her little sister (the ghostly little girl) the Gym Leader of Eterna City. Gardenia was so jealous and angry, she went into the kitchen and made a poison, then put it in the dinner that night, leaving her plate untouched. She then threw the antidote away. (Hence, the Antidote item in the trash can) Her little sister and grandfather perished, and Gardenia became Gym Leader.

And one more:
The eerie painting upstairs is where a Gengar enjoys hiding. The little girl who lived there (ghostly little girl) lived in the room where the painting was. One day, she went up close to the painting to look at it, and the Gengar stared right back. The girl was hypnotised, then snatched away and the Gengar transformed and took her place. (Hence, the TM Substitute) The Gengar then killed the little girl's grandfather/butler, and the ghosts of the two continue to haunt the house, while the Gengar still remains inside the painting

Silver Milotic should be right.
Gardenia says many about the old chateau
If you battle her at the battleground, she says something about it,she stands in front of the chateau etc.

MEGAS April 20th, 2009 2:44 AM

I saw both of the ghost and the old man really freaked me out but soon I realize that the girl is the ghost from the DP episodes called 'Ghoul Daze' where Ash and the other saw her.

Gold95 April 20th, 2009 2:58 AM

yeah it's true!, it happend to me also, when I was playing in computer, I went in one room where you catch Rotom and on the Right room which was visible from the room there was a girl, she just came near me...and..she just disappeared! then I went into that room I saw nothing then on the other room there was an old man just walking....I came out of that room and went into the other room...and....he too disappeared! I got some nightmares about it,... after that I never went to the Old Chateau....

Soo freaky!

Cura April 20th, 2009 3:09 AM

It's weird, and I totally agree with what you said about Gardenia.
And can I say this?

This is something my friend said...
If you use an action replay, and enter a certain, walk through walls,
and disable lock script. You can block the overworld in the other
room, he showed me that and the overworld stops. Try talking to it?
We did, and it said only this, " ... ... ... ... " Then, the Giratina battle
intro occurs and a battle occurs, guess who?

Yes.. it's a Gengar, at Lv. 52. I think it was a script Nintendo was
going to put in and somehow replaced it or put it somewhere else.
Should I do the butler too?

WindBlows April 20th, 2009 3:46 AM

Hello, look at this quote from Bulbapedia:
"In Pokémon Platinum, it is implied that Charon used to live here, suggesting that he is the owner who abandoned it, especially with his credit for discovering Rotom."

Maybe this tells that Charon is Gardenia's Grandfather/father. There are 4 beds in the old chateau, so this explains that the Charon, Gardenia, the little girl (and possibly Gardenia's sis) and the Butler lived there. I need to build my theory more. But that's what I have for now.

AuraGuardianLeader April 20th, 2009 5:04 AM

I found it very perplexing when I first saw her, but I bet they put it in there to freak the newbies out! XD

turnipman April 20th, 2009 11:32 AM

the first time i saw the girl i thought it was a glitch, then i saw the old guy and realised they were placed there on purpose
i was hoping that it would reveal more of their story platinum

FREAKYYYYY :
Right,there we are,on Pearl,walking around,playing at night
we walk into the house, and out of the blue is that Old man! Freaked out,i dropped the DS,and when i picked it up,something very weird happend!
..
The character i was playing as started to walk like the old man! and the Old man walked normally! I gave the DS a smack, since it was so weird i wondered if it'd go back
This time,i turned INTO the old man! I walked out, seeing if i'd be normal again
I was,thinking everything was fine
I was wrong. i went back to normal. After the shock,i left the house, and got onto my bike
I started floating and turned into the old man!i got off,and went onto the normal sprite.

..

every now and then, when i go on my Bike,i sometimes float as the old man..

If you go to the floor with like 5-6 rooms, and you go in the room that is second to the right, you can see the little girl. You might have to do it a few times though.

Gengar is found only if you insert any GBA Pokemon game into your GBA slot.

I tried that, for some reason it only appears through the painting with eyes in the one room, and the statue in the lobby.

I also found out there's a Lv. 39 Haunter in the lobby, too.
Another thing is that, there's a Key Event or Nintendo Event
for Platinum that unlocks more secrets to the Old Chateau, and it's
mysteries. Maybe Nintendo is holding on to the Mystery.

mystery913 April 21st, 2009 12:48 PM

i saw this a while back in platinum if you go into the right room there is a book it says "It's an old notebook. There's something scrawled in it...
Som...hing so pecu...r shou... make off ...ith the mot...
The rest of the pages are blank"
i wonder if this means something

Something so peculiar should make off with the motor?

.. Maybe it's talking about Rotom possessing the lawn mower..
And Rotom backwards is motor.. so who knows.

you may be right because when you change rotom's form it says the appliance has a odd shaped motor and that rotom wants to go into the motor

I think that Charon did live in the Old Chateau because he did research about rotom and the book that i mentioned earlier talks about motors
If you have platinum get the secret key and look at the book in the room

Notebook

The first is a notebook lying on a table. It says: "There is a mysterious notebook here. Its age is impossible to tell."
"It was by pure chance that I obtained information about the Pokémon Rotom. Remarkably, Rotom has the ability to enter and merge with special motors. It's now known that Rotom can stay inside a motor almost indefinitely. However, it will emerge if it enters a Union Room or Wi-Fi Club. Rotom will also emerge from the motor if it is left at the Day Care. Rotom may also forget certain moves when it leaves a motor. This Pokémon requires exhaustive observation and analysis. To ensure I get all the credit, my Rotom research must be kept secret. They will come to recognize me as the scientific genius Char..."
"The rest of the notebook is blank."
Journal

The journal is located in a chair in front of a machine. It says: "It's an old notebook. There's no telling how old it is."
"Our encounter was a sudden one. It was when I found my toy robot, one that I had earlier misplaced. At that instant, a Pokémon startlingly emerged from the lawn mower's motor! Clutching my robot, I started, transfixed by the peculiar Pokémon.
The Pokémon hovered in the air, held aloft by a power unseen. As if curious and unafraid of my presence, it floated toward me. Crackling sounds accompanied it, as if from static electricity in the air. Remarkably, it seemed the Pokémon was the source of this power! In alarm, I flinched, certain that my face would be subjected to a shock. Much to my surprise, the Pokémon seemed to favor me with a smile.
Finally, I came to realize that the Pokémon only wished to be friends. I have decided to name this most wondrous Pokémon 'Rotom.' Simple though it may be, Rotom emerged to me from the motor of a lawn mower. Motor and Rotom... Surely the link is obvious?
Rotom is a Pokémon that is simply sensational. The fact that it can turn invisible is simply the beginning. What makes Rotom unique is its ability to enter and operate machinery!
Rotom and I became friends. We were perpetual companions. The electricity from its body forbade contact, however. We could not touch, let alone hug or hold hands, but we cared not. For we were bonded on a much deeper, incorporeal level.
A feeling of mischief got the better of me one day. Seeing Rotom hovering, I decided to startle it--normally I would not. Perhaps frightened, Rotom discharged power beyond its usual range. I fell, stunned, into the arms of unconsciousness...
When I came to, to my horror I realized that Rotom had disappeared. I searched high and low for my friend in dismay and desperation. 'Don't chastise yourself. The fault is mine. No harm done. Let us play as we always have.' Though my words poured out, my friend could not be found to hear them...
My search for Rotom carried me far from home. It was in the town's rubbish heap that I again found my old toy robot. Curiously, our eyes met, then the robot waved a hand as if in greeting. I knew then that I had found my lost friend. I ran to it and hugged Rotom tight, talking on and on.
The robot's eyes lit up happily as I held it. I'm certain that, within it, Rotom was emitting lots of electricity. Somehow, I felt I could understand Rotom's thoughts better than before. Also, I realized that we would remain friends throughout our lives..."
"The notebook ends with this page..."

This is about Charon's books after obtaining the secret key from Nintendo.
Big secret awaken, ohh...! O_O

Jmanski141 April 21st, 2009 5:02 PM

I went in to get rotom right, i was on my couch at around mid-night, i saw the butler, i wiped my eyes, then i tried it again. He wasn't there. i was relieved. i went to my bed to lie down cause i was going to bed after i got rotom. i went into the wrong room (the one the girls room was next to) and i saw her. i then heard a crash in my kitchen so i quickly shut my DSi and went to sleep.

Lionsroar April 22nd, 2009 3:55 AM

sambo626 April 23rd, 2009 2:54 AM

Lol, I went into the old chateau after reading this post thinking, oh it won't be scary they are just being melodramatic. Well... I went in and got a shiver down my spine when i heard the music let alone the picture with the eyes, the little girl and the butler. Wasn't expecting this in a pokemon game.

Lionsroar April 23rd, 2009 3:15 AM

Lol yeah the music is freaky, i turn it off on purpose in the chateau..

Cura April 24th, 2009 3:11 PM

I found somethings out about the chateau...
The Butler can appear a second time!

I was messing around in the dining room and what happened
is that I went over the storage area on the right side of the dining hall.
I found the Bug Plate or Rare Candy or one of them, and when I was
walking back, the butler was watching me for at least 4 seconds, then
turned and floated away. I've done this only 4 times.

The little girl is another story...
I found out she's watching you through the wall. How the heck she does it,
I don't know, but when you enter the room, she turns and looks right at you,
and then floats away... I got to find more... Hey, a wild Gengar does appear too.
But, you should know that this is only possible through duel-shot transfer.

Blaziken_Boy April 24th, 2009 3:22 PM

After I saw the girl I half-expected the game to turn into Castlevania when I exited the room, I even got my hands into position, only to be disappointed at the Chateau being the way it was before.
Would have been hilarious to see my character thwacking Gengars with his Pokeball-storing belt, though.

I haven't seen her yet in Platinum, but I think it's an awesome easter egg. XD I also like the picture on the wall with red eyes. Kind of looks like it has a walrus moustache, too, which is awesome.

Blaziken_Boy April 24th, 2009 6:56 PM

It's a neat painting possessed and decolored. If you could read the faded plate, it would read "I, LOLRUS".

deliriouspurple April 24th, 2009 7:44 PM

but yeah, it's only a game so nobody's should scared of that.

Duel-Slot Transfer is when you have a game in the second slot or GBA slot of the DS. For example, put in a Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald game in the GBA slot of the DS. Go to Pal Park and transfer 6 pokemon from the GBA game to the DS, and catch them all, and save the game. Keep the game in the slot and return to the Old Chateau. In the upstairs hallway or in the room with the painting with the red eyes, You'll be able to catch Haunters between levels 20-30, and Gengars between levels 25-40. I hope this helped answered your question.

I've tried looking for the little girl alot, and I only get to see her once a day, and it doesn't matter what time, I'm sure of it. Go upstairs through the door to where all the rooms are and go to the second last room towards the right. You won't be able to move while the little girl looks over to your room (she's in the room next door) and she walks out and you don't see her anywhere else.

For the butler, I've only been able to seen him at night. I just keep walking in and out of the Dining Hall and he appeared after 2-3 minutes.

Kotone April 27th, 2009 7:15 AM

i've never seen it before :O

Wailord_1989 April 27th, 2009 10:07 AM

Oh no, can't believe this event also continues to Platinum!! I was just checked out the Old Chateau now, and after I approached to the statue, I go in the dining room and saw that old man standin next to the dining table, and floated to the left side and dissapear!! Which wasn't my experience before when I played Pearl, I only saw the little girl on Pearl Version.

Old Chateau is simply the freakiest place in Sinnoh=.=

HSX April 27th, 2009 12:43 PM

IIRC, according to Rowan in the Platinum "Secret Key" event, Rotom was a thingamawhatzthat that took over a toy and wrecked havoc in the house. I think the tow was that of the little girl. You don't think...

...Rotom's the reason they're still there...? .__.

Cura April 27th, 2009 1:48 PM

I'll repeat the time periods for a sucessful viewing of the events.

You can see the girl, and buttler between the hours of 7pm. and 1:30am.

gigaEmpoleon April 27th, 2009 4:11 PM

this place isn't scary at all but its great for sp.atck ev training ^_^ there was nothing scary about the ghousts, but i am suprised there were ghousts in pokemon(besides ghoust pokemon)btw i am new.

Enter the same room a few times every other minute. You should see the
little girl this way.

Sula April 28th, 2009 9:25 AM

You gotta use an action replay with the codes, "Walk through walls", "Unlocked" and Time Freeze" active. ( Tested on Pokemon Pearl ) You can then talk to the girl, and for some reason start a level 66 Gengar battle. Odd, how that is... Nintendo hid a unused script in an a easter egg. :D

Many of the Pokemon Games, recently Platinum have many scripts that are unused in them. I found these scripts out. Like the Odd Keystone script. Go to Twinleaf Town, surf on the little lake near your house in the game, and try talking the third or second tree on left side of the lake. It should say, " [Player's Name Here] has obtained a Odd Keystone! "

Another one is on the Cycling Road, you can see an odd tree colouring in the far back right of the screen on the mountain. ( Action Replay used on Pearl. )

There's many more to explore! :D

( Sorry for the offtopic chat. I wanted to explain that. )

ghost expert April 29th, 2009 5:54 PM

You get the pokemon "Rotom" in the old chateau. You time setting MUST be between 8pm-2am (I think) in order for you to get Rotom!

You MUST first see the little girl and old man (Both are ghosts, that's why they are so scary and you can't talk to 'em).
The old man ghost is in the dining room at 1st floor, while the girl is in one of the numerous rooms on the 2nd floor.

Once you've seen both the "ghosts", the go in the room (2nd floor) with a TV; then press "A" at the TV, the Rotom appears... CATCH IT ! ! !

It's a great pokemon! It is at lv.16.

Actually you dont need to see the ghosts it just has to be at night. the ghosts are just there but know ones what they actually are there for. it would be awesome if nintendo would have an event that involved the old chateau and those ghosts

zerwey April 30th, 2009 1:33 PM

My friend and I decided to check out the "ghosts". So we went into the Old Chateau around 10:00pm and looked for the ghosts. After about 5 minutes of searching my friend decided that the ghosts weren't real and that I was lying, but I insisted on continuing until I saw either the little girl, old man, or butler. Finally, on the fourth trip into the second room from the right, we saw the little girl. To me, she was floating; but to my ever skeptical friend, she was walking. I continued to look for the butler and old man for another 10 minutes, but to no avail. We were both pretty freaked out, though, because we were sitting outside on a park bench at 10 0 clock at night. o.O

Also, has anyone seen the picture with the purple frame and red eyes in the second room to the right (the one where you can see the little girl)? When you walk up to it, the red eyes disappear, but when you walk away, they light up again. Pretty freaky.

WTH?!

1) You don't have to see the ghosts to catch Rotom
2) The time setting should be after 8pm but before light
3) Rotom is caught at level 20.

You need R/S/E which is the 3rd generation.

In that case, if the butler is the old man then I have seen both...the girl and the old man.

To aquire Gengars and Haunters, yes you need R/S/E.
For Fr/Lg, you can get more secret Pokemon through out the region.

Yes. You can get Gengar. Please, try searching. ^^;

I wanted to explain that. )

Sorry for encouraging offtopic chat, but I just found that odd keystone in platinum!

Anyway, the ghosts. I've seen them both. I creeped me out the first time (it was like, 11 at night) but now whenever i go to the old chateau i always try to find them, lol

maybe,
the old chateau was a hotel. There could of been an accident or something that forced all of the guests and staff out, leaving behind their stuff such as dolls or marionettes. Filled with anger for being left and stuck in the chateau for some reason, Banette formed. They took form of the last two people they saw(maid and butler). now because their old owners are untraceable, they decided it was fine just to scare any travelers who ventured in.
what do you think ?http://archives.bulbagarden.net/w/upload/b/b3/Trozeiani354.gif
