Haruki June 11th, 2009 6:47 PM

i name some of my pokemon (usually my favorites) like naming my Eevee, CutieV or my Ponyta/Rapidash, Entai

Calvo819 June 11th, 2009 7:42 PM

I usually name my poke's after people i know.

I named my Empoleon "Hadrian", my Gardevoir "Aether", my Torterra "Vendetta", my Togepi "Ste-Phunny" (my friend stephanie named it, not me lol)

Down with the darkness June 11th, 2009 8:45 PM

I tend to name 'em. Right now I'm doing the Ultimate Monotype Challenge, and I've been naming them the same thing from generation to generation. Like all my Nidokings are called "Lord" and all my Golbata and Crobats are names "Archer". They're all kinda along the lines of medieval times and mythology.

FreakyLocz14 June 11th, 2009 8:57 PM

I'm on of the few that doesnt nickname

Frequency June 11th, 2009 9:02 PM

I nickname most of my Pokemon. It's fun thinking up some awesome name.

~Magnus~ June 11th, 2009 9:27 PM

I either...
- Let them be called what they are usually called
- Give them a weird name if i don't use them (like iLiek for a Mudkipz and SexyBeast/Sexmaker for Ditto)
- Japanese name they are usually called in Japanese version
- Japanese/History/Comic reference name. (Stalin for Registeel (AKA Man of Steel) or Iceman for Regice or Kaisen for Zangoose since Kaisen is Japanese for Battle and Zangoose battles Seviper
- Random name i think is cool at first then hate later (Like Astro for Gastly)

Calvo819 June 12th, 2009 5:17 PM

i called my Wobuffet "Reychesta"

sonicisrad June 13th, 2009 5:46 PM

Machoke - Macca
Altaria - Taria
Flygon - Ace
Ludicolo - Luigi
Magneton - Magneto
Wailord - Lordiver
Jynx - Kyss
Venusaur - Forrest
Typhlosion - Ty
Scizor - Red
Sceptile - Terra
Togekiss - Happz
Milotic - Milo
Swampert - Kipper
Masquerain - Rainer
Houndoom - Darko
Dragonite - Nitro
Metagross - Metaman

I like nicknames especially in R/S/E due to PokeContests and what not.

ShyRayq June 13th, 2009 9:43 PM

I used to give my pokemon 5 lettered names
now their 8 lettered
EXAMPLE- water types:Atlantic
fire types:Heatwave
elec types:Lighting
and so on

Ecks-Dee June 14th, 2009 4:00 AM

I usually nickname my pokemon if i can think of anything at the time. I have thought up a few funny ones, like Meditite which i called Onion XD Well, because its head looks like an onion! And Machop was Toaster because it looks like its got bread coming out of its head. lol

.Tactic. June 14th, 2009 4:44 AM

I don't really name mine anymore, but in one of the old games (kanto) I had blastoise called bubbles and a caterpie called macho, funny!

SnowpointQuincy June 14th, 2009 5:08 AM

  • Two Dragonite(Parent and Child Actualy) Heart and Soul. (Not named recently!)
  • Aggron "Boss-Rock"
  • Electivire "Edison"
  • Dusknoir "Fortinbras" Named durring a production of Hamlet. (I was the Ghost.)
  • Finaly, the best nick name is... A Slaking named "KarateKid"

Dawn's Hat June 14th, 2009 5:12 AM

I normally base my nicknames around latin translations. For example, I named my Crobat "Virus" and my Torterra "Ortus" after the latin names for "Poison" and "Garden" respectively.

Prince of Cats June 15th, 2009 3:11 AM

I basically name my Pokemon on how I think they look. IE. My Infernape is Sun Wukong from the Journey West and my Machamp is Titan cause... well he's huge and hits like a truck XD

Randurro June 15th, 2009 7:32 AM

I do a mixture of naming them after their Japanese counterparts and shortened versions of their original names.

Hallie June 17th, 2009 12:31 PM

I always have to nickname mine... I hate the CAPS ABUSE OF THE NORMAL NAMES. They're usually non-silly, or often references to other things. Examples:
  • A'Tuin the Torterra
  • Ben the Raticate
  • Othello the Rapidash
  • Banshee the Absol
  • Tamaki the Jolteon
  • Headbanger the Rampardos
  • Ulysses the Blastoise
  • Temeraire the Charizard
  • Shisha the Arcanine
On double-battle teams I like to give them matching names... For instance, my Houndoom/Togekiss pair are names Crowley and Aziraphale, respectively, after the main characters of one of my favorite books.

Ice Grimm June 17th, 2009 11:49 PM

My favorites :
Umbreon - Midnight
Ninetales - Volcano
Cloyster - Coldy
Charizard - Pixy
Lol I know they aren't exactly original, but I liked those the most

derozio June 18th, 2009 1:21 AM

I used to call my roserade 'ROSE RED'. Now that is not very different :/. Garchomp was called 'DRACONIUM' after the dragon booster anime. I niknamed my Infernape 'DEMOLISHER' as it was used for sweeping in- game. I niknamed my snorlax ' BOOM BLAST' for no apparent reason :/. My empoleon 'AQUA BLAST' as it was water type and I was not able to come up with some other name.

Grass-Master-Bailey June 19th, 2009 11:20 AM

Echoing Song June 19th, 2009 11:30 PM

I've only ever named my Mismagius Marisa

That's about it

Sackferth June 20th, 2009 10:21 AM

I usually just give them the decapitalized version of their fully evolved form.
i.e. CHARMANDER would be given Charizard as a name.
(it wasn't a hard concept but I wanted to explain it anyway)

In my Fire challenge for Pearl I hatched all the non-Sinnoh fire starters and switched their names around:
Charizard is named Typhlosion
Typhlosion -> Blaziken
Blaziken -> Infernape
Infernape -> Charizard.

And In my DuoSpecies Challenge I named:
My Lotad---Cocoa Rain
My Abra----Nilla Snow

For the team that I'm slowly training for wi-fi I have so far:
Skywalker----------Lucario (Luke Skywalker)
RAWR---------------Garchomp
MC Hammer-------Blissey

Just some random names:
Bruce-------------My shiny Bronzong (Bruce Banner is the Hulk)
Jimbafatso------Most Snorlax/Hariyama I catch (From Ed, Edd, n Eddy)
Tyrella------------Tyranitar from Colosseum (It was a girl)
Ag Bullet--------Skarmory (Ag is silver...yeah it's nerdy)
Ugly Baby-------Milotic (creative...I know)

Solyss June 20th, 2009 10:26 AM

I always give a nickname to all of my pokemon. Because then they're special, they're not just some random pokemon, it's MY pokemon.
:3

superslayer626 June 20th, 2009 11:13 AM

i like to stick with the names they were originally givin it just feels better

skorupoke June 20th, 2009 11:54 AM

I named my Gardevoir Helena! Because she's so beautiful! (If you know Greek myths you know why I named her Helena...)
Kyogre-Seashore
Dialga-Dragonhead
Roselia with mind reader-RoseReader
Groudon-EarthShake
Mewtwo-Anti-Mew
Torterra-Terrapin(SUPER MARIO RPG LOL!!!)
Gliscor-Batman

Ecks-Dee June 22nd, 2009 8:12 AM

Sometimes I give my Pokemon nicknames that sound like their original names:
Bastiodon: Bastion
Cradily: Dilan (i'm particularly proud of this lol don't know why)
Lucario: Luca

Although some of them are competely random, i mean, wtf, i called my Cranidos, Larry! XD

Arumus June 22nd, 2009 8:33 AM

I give nicknames to those where I find it's a good nickname for them.

Starly: Starlight
Turtwig: Turk
Bellsprout: Bellend
Weepingbell: Weepingballs
Victrebell: Victrebollocks

PokeMoon June 22nd, 2009 10:18 AM

I like to give pokemon nicknames..
I started a pokemon ruby game recently [Duo Species Challenge]
And I named my
Wingull --- Latios. Lol.

Alakazam --- PSYCHO

Gardevoir --- PSY-FI.

:D

Pekin June 22nd, 2009 10:22 AM

I never nickname my Pokémon. Dunno why, though, it just doesn't feel right.

Oh, The Places You'll Go. June 22nd, 2009 11:03 AM

I feel that certain Pokemon are screaming for nicknames.
Or it could be because I just don't like the name period.
I nickname probably 7% of my Pokemon.
Afterall, they are my sweeties, something has to separate them from the rest of those darn trainers you battle every day.
Here are a few I can wiggle out of my head for the moment.
Empoleon ~ Mizuru
Luxray ~ Lust
Driftloon ~ Hollow
Lopunny ~ Caramel or Karma (switching between the two.)
Leafeon ~ Leafia

I only like names with a meaning. I'm not fond of the names people give their Pokemon, like something funny or unreasonable. Or something just wrong. But its their business. >.>

Lo~li~Pop July 21st, 2009 7:03 AM

I always named my pokémon since when I first started playing. The only time I wont name my pokémon is when they are legendary, but sometimes I do name my legendaries.

My favorite nicknames:
(In Emerald)
Belle or Bella, my Gardevoir (NOT because of the "Twilight" series, but because the names mean "beautiful")
Lovetta, my Meganium
Lucy, my Chansey
Scarlett, my Vulpix
Metroid, my Beldum
Puddin, my Arcanine
Luna-Mizu, my Lapras
Victoria, my Absol
Ada Lyn, Ballet, Brink, Dolly, Lola Lovey, Mod, Nadine Lae, and Serina, my female Eevees

(In Pearl)
Exy, my Meowth (I went to a website that had a chat thing and "Exy" was an username and I just fell inlove with the name)
Windee, my Pidgeot (my first caught pokémon ever was a pidgy and I always named them something that had "wind" in the name)
Pimp Ruto, my Empoleon
Madeusa, my Mitlotic
Skipper, my Swampert
Fabio, my Turtwig
Ciro, my Espeon
Meany, my Gyarados
Jinx, my Alakazam
Xal Vador, my Luxray
Havic, my Rotom
Bety Lou, my Miltank
Lastat, my Feebas
Miltrude, my Glaceon
Chu, my Leafeon
Lovely Lil, my Umbreon
Korn Cobe, my Nuzleaf
Elmo, my Mesprit
Spacer, my Palkia
Topsy, my Giratina
Lectro, my Raikou
Hydro, my Suicune
and finaly my last favorite nickname
Pyro, my Entei

Sorry if that is a long list. I hope that someone finds them okay and what not.

Karlos93 July 21st, 2009 7:19 AM

Here is my main team

Absol- Cahos
Scisor- DScythe
Gardevoir-Gravity
Snorlax- RedM&M
Altaria- Bluesky
Charizard- Inferno

NarutoActor July 21st, 2009 7:31 AM

I rarely give nick names and the owns I give the nicknames to always seem to later be in my team and are my favorite
josiah=blazeakanin
ace=straptor
sparkey=pichachu

Mewtwo42 July 22nd, 2009 10:13 AM

The only one I ever really nicknamed was my Piplup. I called it Happyfoot, because the movie Happy Feet came out when I got it.

Tiamo July 22nd, 2009 10:37 AM

I never nickname my pokémon.

Sydian July 22nd, 2009 11:08 AM

I usually name them the first thing that comes to mind. I just got a female Charmander on LeafGreen and decided to name her Jessie. Then I got a Pidgey and named her Cedar. But the worst and most random names of all are my Emerald names.

Lara Croft/ Blaziken
Car Wax/ Alakazam
SolidSnake/ Metagross
SuperIgloo/ Aggron
McFlurry/ Walrein
Dinner/ Shelgon

The all time worst name I came up with was Horny the Rhyhorn. I was in 6th grade and didn't know what it was until my friends told me...it wasn't fun. It was a girl too...and I still have her, but she's a Rhydon named Conifer now.

★Sakuya-San★ July 22nd, 2009 11:42 AM

Ooooo. I love nicknaming my Pokemon. Although at times I'm not creative with them I do find creating them entertaining. Here are some of the names I made for my in-game team in Platinum.

Empoleon- Misuzu
Togekiss- Cootie
Gliscor-Robin
Frosslass- Princess
Gardevoir- Diva

Spectacular Hero July 22nd, 2009 11:59 AM

I mostly give simple names to my Pokemon or sometimes I give them a bit of a name that refer to the type like my Platinum team

Apollo/Monferno
Sparky/Luxio
Storm/Starvia
Cloud/Driftblum
Tails/Buizel

Code July 22nd, 2009 12:13 PM

My nicknames are often alternatives to their origional names.
Treeterror-Torterra
Huntkrow-Honchkrow
and so on...

cerulean15 July 22nd, 2009 12:16 PM

I named by Buizel Tails too!! xD of course I think its probably a popular name for the litte critter. I don't usually nickname my Pokemon, only the ones that I try to have in my final team. Most of their names usually have a meaning behind them or have to do with the type of pokemon they are like some of mine are:

Leader/Staraptor
Tails/Buizel
Sparkle/Pikachu
Sparky/Pikachu with Volt Tackle
Alterio/Umbreon (has something to do with night I forget...)
Helaku/Espeon (has something to do with day I think)
Dragon/Charizard
Ryu/Charmeleon (it means Dragon in Japanese ^_^)

And I have tons more...of course I ran into a person who named all their pokemon after food..really weird but funny

Poison Master Tox July 22nd, 2009 12:26 PM

That really depends on my mood...

When I began playing Pokémon, I used the name of a Pokémon and modified it slightly.

Mudkip/Kippi. It's now a lv 100 Swampert, so "Kippi" sounds ridiclous.

Wingull/Winda. It's now a lv 100 Pelipper, but I still like the name.

Spheal/SEAL. Yeah, that nickname sucks XD

My current names are usually nouns.

Charmander/Flare, for example.

Then I had a period with names that just sounded fitting.

Seviper/Seiwe
Zubat/Zede
Vileplum/Noe

And then the "all girl team" period...

Oddish/Miss Petal
Wingull/Queen Sea
Wingull/Lady Ocean

So it differs a lot xD

Pokedigi7 July 22nd, 2009 12:41 PM

i name all my bird pokemon Ace

Rosh July 22nd, 2009 12:43 PM

I don't really nickname but I do have one pokemon with a nickname, It is a Dragonite called Draco.

machinegun777 July 22nd, 2009 12:49 PM

I don't nickname my Pokemon

Ninetales1 July 23rd, 2009 12:46 AM

And now for even more of my Pokemon nicknames!

Well first of all, I mentioned in my last post that I have a bunch of Harry Potter-themed Pokemon nicknames. Right now, I'm also in the slow process of building a list of Lord of the Rings-themed nicknames as well. So far I have:
Sableye: Gollum (mentioned in my last post)
Registeel: Mithril
Ponyta: Shadowfax (will make more sense when he becomes a Rapidash)
Torterra: Bombadil (previously named Pangaia...)
Gabite: Moria
Charizard: Smaug (Actually, Smaug's from The Hobbit, but close enough...)
I'll add to this list once I start catching the legendaries... especially Giratina, Heatran, and the psychic trio, and maybe Dialga as well. I know exactly what to name them. ^_^

Other nicknames:

Cherubi: Jubilee
Monferno: Imp
Luxio: Electra
Gardevoir: Guinevere
Gallade: Arthur
Xatu: Shaman
Mightyena: Ohkami (Japanese for wolf)
Seviper: Slytherin (I guess I'm still working on the Harry Potter theme)
Floatzel: Weasley (Likewise)
Bronzor: Ferrum (Latin for iron)
Teddiursa: Princess (because the "Hime" part of its Japanese name means "princess")
Milotic: Dreamboat
Relicanth: Granny
Lanturn: Lumiere (French for light)
Hypno: Mesmeria
Vaporeon: Triton
Jolteon: Static
Flareon: Foxy
Espeon: Akamaru
Umbreon: Black Cat
Leafeon: Leif
Glaceon: Jackfrost
Rotom: Robomaster
Aipom: Dexter

chickengamer July 23rd, 2009 6:27 AM

i find when i am trading, pokemon with nicknames dont trade as well as one without
as alot of people like them to be UT, mainly on shinys, events, etc...
so i keep all mine without nicknames, as i think it ruins there value if at some point i want to trade them.

Megaman765 August 11th, 2009 6:08 PM

Pokemon nickname request/showoff thread

My current pokemon that are nicknamed are....

Porygon-Z: Skype
Typhlosion: Chase (This was the nickname it had when I got it in a trade so I might as well stick with it)

Right now I'm having trouble nicknaming my Rotom (Lawn mower form) I was thinking of nicknaming it "Hacker" but I think people would get the wrong impression about it :p

Sydian August 11th, 2009 6:41 PM

You wouldn't be able to change Chase's name anyway because it's from a trade. As for Mower Rotom:

Motor
Sawyer
Rayzr/Razor

Megaman765 August 11th, 2009 6:47 PM

Acutally I had to do some rebreeding so it would be a mild nature :p I still decided to keep its name as chase anyways. It sounds cool.

Timbjerr August 11th, 2009 9:15 PM

For Rotom? "Poltrguyst" sounds cool, but is independent of form...

For mower form specifically, I'd go with "Blak&Deckr" XD

シルバー August 11th, 2009 9:33 PM

Mowie.
Grascutr
Grassy
Whoot :)

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ August 12th, 2009 7:14 AM

Drifblim---------------------------------> Kuukaroon a mixture of air in japanese and balloon in English

:t354:TG

theDIRTYAVENGER August 12th, 2009 8:53 AM

Make it something funny, like "iEatGrass".

Anyway, my Pokemon nicknames make no sense at all...

Pidgeot- "Wingo Starr" (After Ringo Starr)
Cloyster- "Auroracorn" (Aurora Beam + That horn on his head)

AND THE STUPIDEST ONE OF THEM ALL...

Arcanine- "Fog" (Combination of the words "Fire" and "Dog")

Pokemaster988 August 21st, 2009 2:33 PM

The best nickname ive ever given to a pokemon is my magmortar named beefcake it fits so well

JukainPwns August 21st, 2009 2:54 PM

I always nickame my pokemon the best name i think i came up with was my areodactyls name which was LandB4Time

TrainerJen August 21st, 2009 3:29 PM

Yup i always give them nicknames.
For example:
Pikachu- Pika

Sakura Rain August 21st, 2009 3:30 PM

It's so fun to nickname pokemon. ^__^

On my Platinum file, I have:

Torterra - Naoki
Lapras - Tsunami
Arcanine - Hikaru
Dragonite - Tsuyu
Electivire - Kakiiro
Cresselia - Hanami

SLEaman August 21st, 2009 3:41 PM

My Electivire was named "ElectObama" for a while, it sparked chuckles for many of my matches over wifi.
My Drifblim's named "Spiritdaway" After the Miyazaki movie
My Metagross is named "Shinkansen" after the Bullet Train, because it has Bullet Punch(yeah, bad joke)

I usually name all my competitive pokemon, but those were the best I could think of on the top of my head.

Royal Squirt August 21st, 2009 3:53 PM

I don't tend to nickname any of my Pokemon, so I'ma have to pick no :P

PsychoJigglypuff August 21st, 2009 8:10 PM

These are some of my more recent ones:
Fushimaru
Glimaru
Battoko
Kameko
Youma-dono

I now have a tendency to end the names with -maru if it's a male, -ko if it's a female, or random suffixes if it has no gender... Don't ask me why. >.>

I also like to name some of them after random internet memes, anime characters, or just silly things in general. Some of my favorites are:
Chi-chi-chia
Excalibur
Sassypants
Twinkletoes
Cuban Pete
ORLY?
Nyoro~n
IAmABanana

Zero° August 21st, 2009 8:14 PM

On Pearl, I'm naming every Pokemon depending on the first letter in their name:
Bob the Bidoof
Sean the Shinx
Etc.
I thought it would be funny, and it is XD

PokéAddict August 21st, 2009 8:40 PM

Lol I just Pick a letter (ex. J) then i think.... hmm what to say with that letter (ex. Jiko -male- Junni -female-) lol and I name my pokemon when I like them

♣Gawain♣ August 21st, 2009 11:17 PM

^ your siggy's too big XD

I currently named Empoleon Nikolas, and Snorlax Fatman.

Kitsune Genetica August 22nd, 2009 2:20 PM

I give my Pokemon names that reflect deeper meaning, like my Gardevoir and Gallade- "Zenith" and "Nadir" respectively. This reflects the serene nature of the Gardevoir (Zenith- the paragon of good) and the somewhat more aggressive nature of the Gallade (Nadir- the paragon of evil/dark). Sort of like Yin and Yang. What's important in a nickname is that they mean something to you personally, it reflects your preferences and opinions, and it shouldn't matter if nobody else understands them.

Plus, they sound cool in a Double Battle. :P

magrathean August 22nd, 2009 2:25 PM

I used to give mine nicknames all the time, but since I started Platinum, I haven't bothered.

However, in my Fire Red version, I let my friends nickname all my Pokemon. My boyfriend named my Caterpie "Catercake." (: It's level 100 now hahaha.

Apostrophe August 23rd, 2009 11:15 AM

I always name my Pokemon after American presidents. Sometimes the type actually determines what president I name it after (Kennedy the Pidgeot being a reference to the Kennedy Airport), while others are completely random (Roosevelt the Furret).

xxxLatiasxxx August 23rd, 2009 2:57 PM

I like to nickname my pokemon all one name and that name is Taffy after a dog we had. To me it seems to fit with any pokemon as long as the pokemon is genderless or female yeah I know I'm odd like that.

thegeneticway August 23rd, 2009 2:59 PM

Sometimes. Not usually though.

Like I named My torchic Torch in Ruby.

And Blaze when it evolved into Blaziken

SquishyShellos September 3rd, 2009 7:22 AM

I have great names for my two shellos!

West sea-Slippy
East sea-Sticky :D

Great for 2-2!

Currently, A few that I have are:

BIRDY the Blaziken (my 1st pokemon <3)
Pengi the Empoleon
Sparky the Luxray

And my theme team members (shiny, inter-changeable, & in progress/training);
Ike the Gallade
Soren the Umbreon
Reyson the Altaria
Tibarn the Staraptor
Naesala the Honchkrow
Haar the Garchomp
Nailah the Ninetails
Volug the Mightyena

and then I usually just put the other pokemon's names in lower case.

BLAZIKEN - Blaziken
GARDEVOIR - Gardevoir

I prefer when they have Lowercase names :P Thats all I do though.

Prince_of_Light October 24th, 2009 1:40 PM

TECHNICALLY I do nickname. But all I ever do is put the nickname of the pokemon as its species name, except lowercase with a capital initial. Just like the post above me. LOL!
