Fallout 3

Is anyone getting this game?

I personaly think it looks fantastic.

I love Oblivion and I love Fallout 1 & 2 and FPS. Putting them together is like polymerization.

Klippy October 14th, 2008 7:09 PM

I'm quite excited for this game. It's looking to be an Oblivion-with-guns game and I loved Oblivion. So, I'll probably pick it up after awhile. Not gunna get it right away though, since money is tight and all that. ;;

Aurafire October 14th, 2008 7:17 PM

That's definitely something I'll be interested in. I loved Oblivion....and I love a good FPS. Sounds like a good combination to me XD

I got it about four days ago and already have over thirty-five hours in it. Just hit level 10, and the world is just..amazing! The desolate nature of the waste is beautiful, and the VATS system is epic <3

How do you already have it? Fallout 3 doesn't release until the 28th of this month...

I don't know, that seems to violate my ethics.

Bianca Paragon October 15th, 2008 6:25 PM

Your ethics are obsolete~
In short, gtfo :3

At least I have some. I'm not stealing games.

Samurai X October 15th, 2008 7:13 PM

It looks like it's going to be a great game, I hate the Holiday season because I want a lot of games coming out, too bad I can't have them all. I'm probably going to end up buying this game but maybe not when it launches since I have other games I want over this one. Fable II or Fallout 3? Decisions decisions.

Both of you should just stop before an infraction starts heading your way.

kohei October 16th, 2008 6:39 AM

Hello. Local Fallout fan here.

I'm was afraid of Fallout 3 being too much like TES4, but after playing it at TGS... well, all my doubts are blown away.
Sure, it's a bit like TES, but damn its Falloutesque too.

Plus, the Japanese voice overs are coming on lovely.
I'm probably going to buy the Japanese 360 release on December, even if I own the PC/360 version by then, just because this is the first ever release of a Fallout game in Japanese.

Same here, got It as the pipboy 3000.

Sawaa I have a question since you have it. Are there "essential" characters that can not die?

Kirakishou October 16th, 2008 9:58 PM

Its on the list of games to get. But this list is expanding quite rapidly, so who knows if/when I'll end up with it.

Yup; they just go unconscious when killed. I tested this by using VATS + Rocket Launcher on two of them, and they just went unconscious. Children do the same thing~

Wait, there's children in the game and you can knock them out! Interesting, I did not know that. Thank you. Do you have any starting suggestions for the game?

Bianca Paragon October 17th, 2008 6:32 PM

Yup; sure do.
  • Don't kill the Overseer. Trust me.
  • Make sure to put a preference in skill points into either Science or Lockpicking. To not do one or the other will limit many of the areas you can explore.
  • I also recommend pouring points into Speech, or at least getting the Lady-Killer/Black Widow perk, along with the Child-at-Heart perk. Each of these will open up increased conversation options, and a higher Speech will ensure you can always ask for the increased reward values when doing missions. With caps so hard to amass early game, you gotta take every edge you can get.
  • In your first 10 levels of progression, you'll probably find that melee weapons are more powerful; if you get used to this, be sure to pour points not only into Melee, but into Unarmed, also - this will bolster your ability to use weapons like the Power Fist with awesomeness.
  • Oh, and Mysterious Stranger is the BEST. PERK. EVER. About 1/10 times when in VATS mode, a guy in a trenchcoat will appear behind your target and start pumping it full of Magnum rounds. The amount of times this has saved my ass can NOT be over-stated :D
  • I also recommend not blowing up Megaton (very early game) but both paths have pro's and con's. If you go too Karma Negative, you'll get bounty hunters after you, if you go too Karma Positive, you'll get Talon after you. If you can stay Karma Neutral, you get to use the Impartial Meditation Perk which is awesome; but staying Neutral is difficult.
Oh, and one last thing; do the Moira missions!

Aurafire October 26th, 2008 1:38 PM

Buying this next weekend after it comes out. Words cannot describe how awesome it looks XD. I'll be playing on my laptop...I hope it isn't too different from the 360 version.

parallelzero October 28th, 2008 7:24 PM

I need to get over my initial jumping-at-everything-I-see phase in this game. I've only gotten as far as escaping 101 so far, but there's something overly eerie about the constant nothingness. Also, I wandered into this ruined school and turned around to leave the second I saw darkness.

Aka Bioshock ruined my life. XD

CP3 October 30th, 2008 4:56 PM

Can somebody tell the pros and cons, I'm still on the deciding if I should buy this game.

SBaby November 3rd, 2008 1:40 AM

Pros: It's a very detailed FPS with RPG elements in it. You gain experience for making kills and completing objectives and you level up, enabling you to bolster your stats. In addition, you can enter a sort of command mode, where you give your person commands without worrying about the AI breathing down your neck. I can't tell you how many times this has saved my --- when dealing with snipers. Also, the game is very physics-based. If you shoot a guy in the head, it's usually a one hit kill. If you shoot their arm or leg, you might take the limb right off if you have certain weapons.

Cons: The 360 cache has to be dumped periodically to keep the game running at full speed on the 360, and I've heard rumors that Microsoft bought the rights to all expansions that come out for the game (which isn't a big deal for me, since it's easy to get around that stuff if the game is multi-platform).

Overall, yes you want the game if you're a fan of shooters.

Shadowfaith November 3rd, 2008 1:42 AM

I'm reeeeallly looking forward to this game =D My BF got to play it in a game con up in London a few days ago and he said it was awesome ^_^ I can't wait to just have this! I loved Oblivion and its pretty much just that only with updated graphics and...mutants XD

Arcanine November 3rd, 2008 9:17 AM

I wasn't planning on getting this launch day... but I did. I will note... I held back and only got the normal edition. I've got too much other stuff pre-ordered, so I needed that $20. XD

But over all, I really do like the game. Right now I got 2 files going on. One with good Karma, and another with bad Karma. Strange enough the one with good is my main file, but I'm a good ways ahead on my bad Karma file.
I like the game, and it was worth it. But then again I haven't really ran into anything super dark yet.
But I will say this... Mini-Nuke is <3333
