What was the most annoying thing your parents ever said to you about anime?
Whoa, what a mouthful, xD
Anyways, If you can remember, then what was the most annoying thing your parents said about anime? Anyways, I got the idea from another forum. |
EVERYTHING!!! Whenever I watch anime my parents just keep complaining about it. "Why are you watching this?", "OMG no one actually sounds like that", "No one wears clothes like that!", "OMG look at the size of their head/eyes" (although I may have to agree a bit about that last comment...) -____-
|
"Why are you watching this crap?" is the usual thing my mother asks me, which is about annoying as it gets. I have very little interaction with my mother when it comes to our taste in what is on TV or DVDs - the only things we both watch are Have I Got News For You, Would I Lie To You? and Mock the Week. I ask her the same question when it comes to some of the things she watches, though, so its not too bad.

Usually my parents talk about the poor animation, but I reply it's culture- Asian art! There is also a reoccurring joke in my house about everyone in anime looking like Ash cos Pokemon is the first anime I watched! :D |
Oh, my parents would say these:
"Have you actually done your homework?" "Do you learn anything from these?" AND my dad would give lectures. Erk, so lame, like it doesn't sink into my head. Duh... |
"Turn that noise off!"
XD my mom has a thing about sounds, as she prefers everything to be nice and quiet(unless of course she's watching it too, which is never the case with anime). And I always get peeved because I don't like her calling it "noise." Though I only started watching anime in my last year at home. Now I live on my own, and I've seen much more anime here than I ever have at home. |
"Aren't you too old for cartoons?" Thats what my mum would say. She dosen't know the difference between anime and cartoons. It's all cartoons to her. So now I don't watch any anime =(
|
My mom says that some of the anime I watch does not make any since (although I have to agree somewhat :P )
She does like some anime though, like Cyborg 009 and Ruroni Kenshin. She also liked Death Note... Even though her first reaction to seeing Ryuuk was "What the heck is that thing?!" XD |
What annoyed me most is when my mum stares at the anime for about 5 minutes, then turns to me and asks "Is this Tom and Jerry?"
... -_______- |

Well, my mom praises me for watching anime and being different from my brothers. However, my brothers ask why do i watch stuff like that and say Im wierd. Bump them, I say. |
"Where is Naruto? Is that the one with the black hair?" When I watched Naruto,
"Who's the Pokemon there?" When I watch Pokemon. It's really annoying when my parents says "Who this [Insert anime title here]" and I have to explain it. =.= |
Well I don't really get questions like this: Since my Dad is a gamer himself so he knows alot about graphics already. But the only thing I've ever had to be asked about anime is from my Mum (But I guess your used to Pixar films still when you work in a nursery) She just said: "What type of style of drawing is this?"
I immediatley answered: "Anime." NEXT SHE'S GONNA ASK ME ABOUT MANGA. But my Mum's not annoying. |
I've been A-OK with my parents and anime.
My dad has actually watched a few episode of Code Geass too. |
"Stop watching that Digimon crap!"
This was years ago, but it still ticks me off when I think about it. To mistake Pokemon for Digimon is unforgivable in my book. |
My parents don't really complain about it. And they will watch the english dubs with me. As for Subs, they ask why I want to watch something I spend more time reading than watching XD
|
My statement applies to more than just parents. It even goes out to different subject such as games and manga/books. "What is that? Pokemon?" or "Is that Dragonball Z?" GOD! It get soooooo annoying O_O Regardless if this is a Pokemon forum, not every anime/manga/game looks like Pokemon OR DBZ!!! In the last month while playing Disgaea at school, I think people have asked me the Pokemon one at least 10 times...It's probably the most annoying thing I can think of that's anime related. ---------------- Listening to: Talib Kweli; UGK; Raheem DeVaughn - Country Cousins via FoxyTunes |
"Stop watching Japanese crap"
Stuff like that. |
In my dad's side of the family, the Y chromosome seems to have a natural attraction to everything from GLORIOUS NIPPON. All of my male cousins with internet access seem to love anime.
My genes are retarded however so I probably have a Y chromosome wedged in there somewhere. D: My dad thinks anime is great. He doesn't really watch it, but he calls them 'cartoons done right'. He also agrees with me nowadays that American cartoons suck the big one. My mom disagrees however and thinks that I should stop 'watching that Japanese cartoon garbage' and start watching those horrible Hispanic soap operas which, by the way, are really horrible. (Either that or American cartoons, but that's only for her gain; so she can ask me what certain English words and phrases mean. It's annoying and embarrassing so I have to chase her out with a broomstick every time she comes into my room Dx) |
"What the heck is this? Is this more of that Pokeyman stuff?"
And yes, they pronounce it "Pokeyman." But in all honesty, they haven't seen me watch it in a while. Though it helps that I'm at school 800 miles from them XD |
Quotes from a silly father.
"Are you watching more kids [censored]?" "Stop watching Pokémon" "Always watching Pokémon" The latter two are often said even when I'm watching something violent - FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST = POKéMON. What. |
My parents don't usually complain unless I'm watching a sub, they complain that if I want to watch Japanese shows I should learn Japanese instead of reading a translation down the bottom.
|
"What is it with you and those depressing cartoons?" Mother always speaks of anime as 'depressing' and 'dark', lulz, albet it is that way sometimes... but the Bizzlings take a great fondness in Japanese animation, they do.
|
My parents have insulted anime in about every way possible XD; I swear, every time I'd mention it or anything, I'd get a string of rude insults about how it's lame and is a waste of time etc... . I never let it get to me though, my parents and I have been on really bad terms foreeeeever, so I just brush off whatever they say :D

Pokemon is my friend. That's why I have a grudge against people who go against me. |
"Aren't you too old for this?"
My parents ask me that every time they see me watching a cartoon/anime. It's getting hard to stay calm when answering "There are cartoons for all ages..." ¬_¬ |
The first time my parents asked me about it, they were like "Aren't these things for little kids?"
Then, I put up the first 7 minutes of Elfen Lied, some killer moments from Higurashi, and some yuri from Strawberry Panic. And after that my reply is "I'm sure little kids love blood, gore, screaming, and homosexual behaviour in their cartoons." |
Well sweeties, when I was living at home the only things that they said that annoyed me were:
"Have you finished your homework?" and trying to have a random conversation with me out of the blue when I'm in the middle of episode. That's about it. XD |
Quote:
And Digimon is not crap :cer_pissed:. Anyone who says that has got a bone to pick with me (and needs their brain checked). |
You can't watch the final episode of Outlaw Star (which i had watched every episode in a row on Cartoon Network before that) because I'm watching Monday Night Football...
It wasn't even our team that was playing... You can't just let a kid watch an amazing anime and then not get to see the ending!!!! |

Never really happaned to me because my parents were both raised with Anime (Kimba, Speed Racer) and Ultraman so they accepted it when me and my sister were into Sailor Moon ,and so forth . The only one would be my grandpa , which is very bigoted about Japanses culture ,so I'm always on the opposite culturally then him. My grandma ,however ,didn't really care ,unless it got in the way of school and such. |
Anything they say pertaining to Death Note is annoying. From the moment they heard the name of the anime they were bugging me about it.
That and my step-mom annoys me about still liking pokemon. My dad doesn't care. |
My mom doesn't even know what anime is... She's there are only cartoons in the world, no Japanese cartoons and stuff. She doesn't say anything.
|
" why are you watching little kid shows" " you're too old to be playing that" " whats with you and this POKEMAN stuff"....theres so much....lmao
|
Quote:
My mom asks me if kids my age still like Pokemon, and I reply "I am not like most kids my age." :P |
My mom think anime and manga's for little kids and say I'm "too old" to be watching "cartoons" and reading "comic books." My dad doesn't even know what I'm doing in my room half the time LOL
But some/most of these animes that I watch are like rated Teen (16+) and I'm not even 16 yet xD |
I just get the general "You're obsessed with that, aren't you?" response. Not too bad, I face worse persecutions at school.
|
It would be, "Shouldn't you be watching english things instead of Japanese?" and "You shouldn't be watching these things," when there was violence.
|
Oh yeah, my mom FORBIDS me from watching Death Note, Jigoku Shojo and all things that relate to hell and all those stuff. She'll yell at me and not let me watch anymore of this, AND because I'm a Christian, I can't watch this. Seriously, who said Christians can't watch these? How many Christians are watching these? I would say more than 50%. This is ANIME, mom. I wouldn't turn away from God just because of this. So yeah, I still watch them, but without my mother at home. She is such a bother.
My dad, well, is another case. He watches Naruto, Death Note (some of it) and some more anime. But for the rest, he looks at the TV for five secs, turns back and says, "After this, switch off the TV." CRUD~! Why can't I watch them? I learn ALL my drawing skills from anime and manga, and NOW you stop me from watching them? HOLY CR- COW!!! I am offended. VERY offended. AND they pronounce Pokemon wrong! While it should be Poh-keh-mon, they say Poe-kee-mon! ARGH!!! |
"What are you playing? Your Pokeemonz and your Digimons and your YuGiOhs..."
(Po-key-mons) My dad hates that I'm back into Pokémon. He things I'm in social withdrawl. Shows what he knows. :# |
"Stop watching cartoons." Same as everyone else~
This one not the same~ "Go and sleep." LOL I have to sleep and she calls me in the middle of an episode. I reply with "X minutes" Although I don't necessarily keep to X. |
My parents don't like me locked up in my room watching anime the whole weekend. They get suspicious on what I watch, but since it is in Japanese, they can't really yell at me for it since they never look at my monitor.
Although, I hate it when my parents ask me about my anime and all. (I got her to buy 15 volumes of an ecchi manga without her realizing so far, however). They usually ask, "Are you supposed to be watching this?" - Jigoku Shoujo. "When are you going to stop watching this!?" - Negima!?/TMOHS "Isn't this a kids' show?" - Digimon/Pokemon/Sergeant Keroro "Is that supposed to be a guy?" - OHSHC (Haruhi) So yeah that's how it goes. |
"Stop watching tv for kids"- I hate this so much, I'll watch what I like thanks. Mature themes included.
"What are you playing that pokemon game for, you are 17." seriously. ARRGGHH They think I'm a bit of a social reject. I suppose I don't go out and get drunk like other 17 years old, not because I can't fit in, it is because I don't want to 'fit in'. I'm happy as I am. =) |
"I hate this animation." -I've heard this a thousand times from my dad.
"Why do they make such eerie-looking eyes?" -Again from my dad. Plus, I have to put up with routine teasing from my mom about my choice of video games (pokemon, of course), which she pronounces entirely wrong. She usually says it like, "Pokeemons" or "Pokeemans". Seriously, for a woman who spends half her life talking in Spanish to her friends on the phone, she can't even recognize a simple accent mark. Sheesh. |
These are quotes I get from my dad whan I watch Naruto and DBZ:
"Nut scented ALIEN!" mocking the Japanese end credit song of DBZ . "You don't have squinchy eyes like me" Giving Rock Lee's master a line to say ( like in MST3K  . "He's taking a dump!" DBZ grunts  . (sometimes I even say it  ) "Full Bellied ZENKAI POWER!" mocking the DBZ end song (again :\) "Why are there people with animal heads in this?" DBZ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When I was watching Death Note this morning, he tells me all this japanese culture stuf (he's a social studies teacher). I'm thinking "I don't care! I just want to watch Death Note!" Sometimes he points out that a character looks cross eyed by saying "Why are do all anime characters look at their nose?" He also metions that japanese men are pervs when an anime girl is shown with a short dress. I've learned to live with it  . He's actually pretty funny. |
My mom (who is a fujyoshi herself):
"Wow, I need to find doujins of [INSERT MALE CHARACTER NAME] X [INSERT MALE CHARACTER NAME]" Gets annoying real quick. At least I live away from home now. |
Usually, my parents don't watch with me, thank goodness. When they do, however, it's quite annoying.
"See? Now even your sister is watching this," -my grandma (My sister is 3 years old and she watches EVERYTHING with me.) "What's so funny?" -my dad (I was watching a funny episode of D.Gray-Man and I begged him to at least watch one episode with me. I guess it was a pretty bad idea after all xD) "Change it to your sister's program NOW!" -my mum (Whenever the ending song starts playing) "Switch it off please. I want to give your sister a bath." -my mum again (when my sister watches Pokemon with me; it airs at 10 a.m. over here and my sister usually hasn't taken a bath by then) "Are you doing work or playing?" "What do you do on the computer the whole day?" "Why are you watching a cartoon in Japanese?" -my grandma again (I watch anime on the internet everyday except Saturdays and Sundays.) My sister LOVES to talk about random things while I'm watching anime. When I watch Pokemon she'll start saying "Pika... CHU!" xD On top of all that, my cousin loves to play Naruto on his PSP and he pronounces Sasuke as "Sa-su-key", no matter how many times I tell him it's "Sa-su-ke". ARGH! I'm the only person in my family who watches anime and reads manga, so it's VERY annoying when my parents (and grandma) ask silly questions and tease and nag at me. |
hmmm...i'm pretty sure my parents ended up giving up on me watching anime a long time ago...so i don't remember what they said against it. I really don't think they actually did say anything about it now that i remember...i just know they made comments on the stuff i was watching, like noting the obvious. Hey, this has Mahjong (Akagi), hey i remember this stuff from when i was in school (Bamboo Blade). and other stuff like that is generally their comments
|
"Awww. The one with nine tails and white fur is so cute. Who is that.....Togepi?"
|
Oh that's easy.
'Why are you watching these kiddy cartoons?' And the best part is that it's always during Ghost in the Shell, Fullmetal Alchemist, or one of the other Animes that aren't for kids. I should show them Wind Ninja Chronicles one of these days, and then see if they still think Anime is all kiddy cartoons. |
My parents do laugh at me watching anime, but they do it in a very friendly way. After all, they both like Miyazaki's movies, for example. And my brother watches anime, too, so they don't whine about it that much, more like mock us a friendly way.
Anyway, nowadays they don't say much when I watch anime because the reason I can pronounce Japanese so well is anime. (They don't teach pronuncation where I study Japanese.) They're very proud of me for speaking Japanese, so they can't really say much xD But of course, that's because I never watch dubs. I can't stand English dubs or the way American voice actors pronounce Japanese words. They never get it right. I don't mean to offend anyone, but I'm just so used to the Japanese way of pronouncing, say, "Inuyasha" or "Kagome", that I simply can't switch my mind into thinking "Ka-gou-meh" is the same thing. I watch the Finnish dub of Pokémon, though, but the pronounciation of Finnish is so close to the Japanese one it's not that bad. I'd still rather watch a subbed version. |
