Chrono Tiger DS?

I couldn't believe it when I saw it, they are releasing a Chrono Trigger remake for DS coming out on November 26 2008 for NA audiences. Everyone knows and loved the Chrono Trigger series and I never wanted to play Chrono Cross but the original Chrono Trigger, for the DS. I was gonna but Sonic Chronicles but a game I trusted and still play is getting a new look! I can hear the Victory Music playing in my head...

So, if you're going to buy an RPG anytime this year start playing a rom of Chrono Trigger on a SNES emulator and you'll see how incredible Square Enix can work when they aren't working on a Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts game.

From what i've seen, their not really remaking it, just porting the game. Square colud've just put it on Virtual Console for $10, but instead they're selling it to us for $40.... If they added some stuff like Enhanced graphics and Music, and some scenes shelling out each character backstory, then i'd buy it. But if not, then I might as well play it on emulator like you suggested.

There was a thread about this a few months ago; the nerds that get the news first beat you to it.

I consider Square Enix's main strength to be in publishing manga...

Squeenix publishing manga? Wow that is a shock. But hey chrono trigger on ds aint bad. but is it a direct port with a cheesy touch screen or what? i wouldnt mind to tell you the truth. it could unglue me from lunar genesis ^_^

Im definately buying it! I played chrono cross but never trigger... I hope sales go well so they make a 3rd chrono game ^.^

This intrigued me at first, but now that I know it won't really be remade, I don't feeling like coughing up a hard earned 40 bucks. Too many awesome games have been/will be coming out soon for me to be wasting money on what I can get for free on an emulator.

the problem with that is Square doesn't seem to be making enough enhancements to make veteran Trigger fans (like myself) want to buy this port. I think the only significant change we'll see is touch screen controls for battle. Square has been doing this a lot lately, they don't put enough heart into their other projects, so when they don't sell well, they blame it on the idea that fans only want to play more Final Fantasy and KH compilations.(Which is why an english version of Re:Chain of Memories is being released in the states). Enjoy Chrono DS while you can, cause we won't be seeing any more Chrono releases for a loooong time.

It had to be said to open up your eyes. Fanservice-less ports are the opiate of the masses.

Don't pay any attention to someone who doesn't know what they're talking about.

It's got a monster arena and an extra dungeon (with a bunch of new sidequests, apparently), as well as the anime cutscenes without the loading time from the PSX version. And before you say I'm wrong, this is coming right from a Nintendo Power issue. Other than that, the game is pretty much the same (though they reworked alot of the text). But I don't really care. I'll still get it.

I guess what i'm trying to say is that anyone who's played Chrono Trigger a lot or still has a working copy, shouldn't bother buying the DS version, but if you're new to the game, then go for it! Chrono Trigger is one of the greatest games of all time.

How does it compare to Chrono Cross? Just so I'm aware before hand.

Well, Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger are two completely different games with almost nothing in common (aside from a couple references and a key scene in Chrono Cross). It's kind of like comparing Xenogears to Xenosaga. You've got references, but really, they're two completely different games.

Basically, the big thing with Chrono Trigger is that you're going to different time periods. So it's the same world, but in different eras (each era having its own world map). So when you do something in one era, it affects the others (although there are only specific things you're allowed to do to change things, but you'll see it when you play it). But it's definitely worth picking up, especially if you haven't played it.

I recently got Chrono Trigger DS the day before when I got my DS Lite. I remember playing it for the SNES back in '95. I heard that they added a dungeon or a town. I forgot...(Okay, got the answer from SBaby. It is an extra dungeon)
It looks like the SNES version. Hehe, I am going to love this game once again. <3
