Writer's Block
It seems like each time I have a new idea, I write the first chapter, I think it's great, then I can never bring myself to write the next chapter. :( And I have like a thousand ideas at the same time, then I get all confused and stuff. Can anyone suggest some way to help me?

writer's block
well i would focus on one idea or take the ideas u have and colaborate on them and create somtin better. as for bein able to write the next chapter u need to be disciplined. i suggest only give urself how its goin to end how its goin to begin and then vital points through out the story and then work through it wit ur readers. don't always know exactly wats gonna happen before u wirte. surprise urself it makes it more interestin and more fun to write

The problem is, all my ideas have absolutely no connection to each other. >_< Gah, I'm annoying myself. I guess it would help to make a list of fics I want to write.
Fics I wanna write: ~Naruto fic ~Warriors fic ~Pokemon adventure fic ~Pokemon Trainer School fic ~Hogwarts fic ~Element School fic ~Pokemorph fic Fics currently writing: ~Demons: Hidden Fire ~Angel Quest ~Twilight Organization |
I'm like that as well. Several different stories in one cranium, not enough time to process all of them to cyberpaper.
I get by via the art of writing one major thing and everything else as a one-shot. |
Well, most of the time I improvise on the spot when I figured out the basic point of my story.

I have similar issues; the every annoy "inspiration dies" thing. One of my suggestions is that you focus on one fic in particular, and set all the other ideas aside for later use. Try to get ideas for that fic down-- even if they have no connection-- and figure out what sounds good in the next part of your fic.
All the other ideas; keep them around for later use, but try not to jumble them up with your main work. This takes quite a bit of disciplin (as Lukespade already mentioned), but it helps. Also, fishyfool's one-shot idea helps too; I'm currently doing this with two works of mine, sort of bouncing between the pair when the mood suits me-- I'm not sure if you ought to bounce between the two, but if it works for you, well then... yay! Anyway, I hope you get over your writer's block soon; pain in the arse, that sure is. Nyah. |
I've started Demons months ago and I still can't bring myself to continue it. >.> Ah well. Time to start a new fic. Keep your eyes open, guys. :P

That is the most epic website I have ever had the honor of setting eyes upon in my life. |
Eeeeeehhhhh....I don't know if that's going to work...

Actually, most of those tips on the website txteclipse posted will help you write. I know. I've used quite a few myself. I am not admitting to actually doing the first tip and having it work.
There are times when I want to write a specific part of my fic, but can't get there because I'm stuck on another part. So I write the part that I want to write and I find that seeing that part down on paper wakes up my mind to get past the stuck part. I've also done freewriting a bit. I had a Word document on my laptop that was pure nonsense. It was myself and four or five of my characters sitting around talking about nothing. But getting out that pure nonsense set my mind flying, and I was able to get out at least ten pages a night when I did that. Freewriting about anything sets your mind in motion. This past week, I got outside and took walks. Being outside in nature with nothing to catch my mind except for watching the leaves fall allowed my tired mind to rest. When I came back home, my mind was ready to write. I also had quiet time to think about what I wanted to write. I was stuck today on how I could get my character from the city where she was currently to another city that was far away. She really didn't have much of a reason to go there. But instead of agonizing over it at my desk in my room, I grabbed my notebook and pencil and went outside. While writing out there, I came up with the idea that I needed, and pulled everything together. Also while outside, I didn't have music playing like I normally do when I write. I had nothing. Just the sounds of nature. That change helped. And while outside, after I wrote a few paragraphs, I would get off my swing and rake leaves for a bit. Moving and doing something different helped. What I guess I'm trying to say is that if what used to work for you while writing, try something different in your routine. Take a break for a bit from all your stories. Get outside. Shake up your routine. Let your mind flow. Oh, and this advice in this post? Coming from someone currently writing six fics, with at least eight more planned. |
'Kay, I got out of writer's block. :D But now I have a hundred dozens of other ideas of fics to write.
