Judge a book by its cover?

Do you judge people by their looks?

This includes selection of friends of any sort.

I don't... cuz I'm nawt that heartless? XD;

Unforgettable November 10th, 2008 11:35 PM

No way. It's all about the personality. I'm not shallow, and I find people attractive if they have an amazing personality :3

Gerri Shin November 10th, 2008 11:37 PM

I try my best to judge people based upon their personality more than looks, however if they have a great personality and great looks than double win, but even if they just have the right personality that's cool too.

Mr. Curling Iron November 10th, 2008 11:42 PM

It just depends on whether they're nice... But [sadly I cant ever be sugar and spice] if they're ugly/disfigured... >< I can be nice and get along but for some reason i get irritated really easily :/

Though online I dont care if I'm talking to a monkey.

♣Gawain♣ November 10th, 2008 11:50 PM

Nope, I'd never jump into conclusions. I always look deep into things before I reason out.

Melody November 11th, 2008 2:20 AM

I avoid being judgmental as much as humanly possible.
I would not like to be judged based upon my looks, so I do not usually tend to pass those kinds of judgments upon others.

Rockéttes November 11th, 2008 2:41 AM

I used to, but then I realized that the most unsuspecting people are usually the most interesting. So no, I don't 'judge a book by it's cover anymore'.

Snivi November 11th, 2008 2:51 AM

Not really unless it is someone I want to date. I have to be attracted to them.

Hawkfish November 11th, 2008 8:56 AM

No. I found that no one is what they seam. That's not a bad thing though.

Eternal Nightmare November 11th, 2008 9:44 AM

Not all the time, but very rarely. I go by stuff like too much make up or the persons clothes style. Yes, I know......... Im like that.

Legobricks November 11th, 2008 9:44 AM

That I do. How one conducts their outward appearance is a telling feature of that person's social agenda. Beyond displaying their culture and social standing however, the rest of judging a person comes with direct interaction with them.

I'll judge each aspect of a person, but it helps not to miss the cover, otherwise I won't know who I'm reading.

Alex November 11th, 2008 1:07 PM

I can't help but do it. Usually you can tell something about someone just by looking at them, you cannot deny that at all. Obviously you don't know them entirely just by looking at them, so that's when you go into depth and talk to them and learn about them. But it's so easy to judge someone by their appearance, I'm willing to bet everyone does it. If you judge someone and think you know them like you've known them for ten years, then I pity you.

Toblerone November 11th, 2008 1:12 PM

I never ever judge people by their appearance. It doesn't bother me in the slightest (of course, if they are dressed in quite odd clothes for their gender or something this might change. :P), really. I know some people who do, and to me it's the personality that counts, not what's on the outside.

Spinor November 15th, 2008 7:42 PM

I don't judge the QUALITY from the cover, but from the cover, I can judge the mood and sometimes a story and outcome. It is a gift given to certain people that have read The Giver one year early and can only be passed by touch. Unfortunately, that takes Yettabytes to sent over the interwebz.

What? What are you talking about?

I think everyone does it to a certain extent and that doesn't necessarily make you a bad person. If you some emo kid with spiky hair, bloodshot eyes and too much makeup on came up to you you are bound to be on your guard because that person looks different (not that there is anything wrong with it), its normal to react to the way people look and I'm fairly certain everyone does it. Discriminating because of looks is very obviously wrong though.

That said I do judge people based on their looks but I don't treat them any differently, not consciously anyway.

Azzurra November 16th, 2008 2:17 AM

No, I don't actually judge a book by it's cover because it's rude and those people have feelings.
They can actually end up being the nicest most warm people you'll ever meet, too.

ErickaVolt November 16th, 2008 2:33 AM

No. I don't judge people by their looks. I only judge people from their manners and honesty.

viridian doubletongue November 16th, 2008 9:27 AM

I do. I'm an extremely good judge of character. But I'm also very fluid with my thoughts. A first impression, unless incredibly accurate, wouldn't remain.

TRIFORCE89 November 16th, 2008 7:55 PM

If it looks like you haven't bathed in months, I'm going to judge you yeah.

Vernikova November 16th, 2008 8:03 PM

I never judge people by their looks. That's why I have many friends of different ethnicties(That might be wrong). Of course, NYC contains people of many different ethnic backgrounds, so I guess that helps.

Teara November 16th, 2008 8:08 PM

Aww, I thought this was another book thread ;;

I do. WAIT. I can explain. Based off how I've observed people through out the years, and generally being friendly with everyone, no matter what social group they come from, I can usually tell upon first meeting someone if they're the stuck up type I don't particularly like talking to. In all honestly, if I meet someone who's really beautiful, and just kind of has that air of arrogance around them I don't really try too hard to make friends. I still carry on a conversation with them and I don't completely condone them, but I'm not usually expecting a lot. Of course I'm wrong some times but I've generally been pretty spot on in judging character right away.
Intelligent, down to earth people, and ignorant, arrogant people just have different looks to them. Not specifically on an aesthetic level but more how they carry themselves.
Hard to explain, I feel a rant coming on XP

Caelus November 16th, 2008 8:15 PM

When I was younger, I always judged a book by it's cover.
Nowadays, I don't do it anymore due to me prefering personality over looks.
