Don't Like the Wii?
I recently played Wii and...I thought it was pretty bad...I didn't like it.
I thought the controls were fiddly and rather got to me...and personally I think they wrecked Mario Kart by adding too many little extra things to the racetracks. I used to be a big gamer but I'm not as into it anymore + I don't care much for graphics so that has nothing to do with my contemplation of the console. Loved N64 + NGC...but Wii's just not for me. Anyone else here not like the Wii? Please share your opinions. |
I am not going to blindly defend the Wii, but have you thought about playing Wii games that do not use motion control?
|
i thought the wii was lame till i bought a japanese one with my favorite anime games lol i think if you use the controller its better...if it werent for those things i dont think i would like the wii either
|
I like the Wii. It might have something to do with the fact that my other console is GameCube, but there's plenty of great games that don't require the Wiimote (though I think it's stupid that you need the Wiimote to navigate the Wii Menu): SSBB, Mario Kart Wii, VC games, GC games... they don't need a Wiimote to play. In fact, I find it easier to use a GCN controller to play Brawl.
|
I really get tired of people trashing the Wii because they don't like the sensitivity of the Wii mote, if that is indeed what you're talking about.
An extremely high amount of the games that are out for the Wii have alternative ways of playing, some of them even being a GC Controller. So please, if you want to hate the Wii, find a better reason to. Seriously. |
I think the Wii is good.
I currently only own Wii from the three Next Gen consoles but plan on getting an Xbox 360 for christmas. Personally I think each of the three consoles has it's flaws. I like the Wii and the controls are good and give it a bit more accuracy but I have to admit they get a bit boring after a year or so and you hardly notice they are there. |

I like the wii a lot!!! But I don't have one..:(
|
I was really disappointed with the wii... It has some good games, like Brawl, but I haven't seen them using the full potential of it... They aren't focusing enough on people who want to play real games, and more on old people who want to stay in shape...

I'm sure there are games that are not aimed for that demographic out on the market too, but I'm not aware of them since I don't look for game information actively. The only Wii game I'm looking forward to right now is Fragile, since Fallout 3 was rather disappointing and I'm still hungry for games based in post-apocalyptic wastelands. |
Haha, the Wii was the next-gen console I was looking forward to the most and now it's probably my least favourite. :/
I can barely stand any of the games that require you to use the Wiimote as a pointer, etc. None of the rooms I've ever played my Wii in have been, I don't know, configured well enough to play it comfortably. The couch is either too close for the sensor bar to pick up the remote or it's too far away, so in order to point at something specific on the screen, I have to stand up. I game to relax, so while some Wii games (Sports, Wario Ware, etc.) are better played in a group while standing up or whatever, most are not. <_<; The remote is also just... not very ergonomic? It's not comfortable to hold no matter how you're holding it--it's awkward in the "pointing" position and it's even more awkward to me when you play it horizontally. Then I also have complaints about the library. 8/ Honestly, the only game I've put a decent amount of time into, the only one I've touched after beating it, was Brawl. Every other game I have for the Wii I played once and then stopped, most of them I actually rushed through so I could set it to beaten on my Backloggery and move on to something more fun. There's just too much third-party crap out there and while most people argue that at least Nintendo is putting out good games for it, I have to disagree since I dislike most of the games that everyone else likes on the Wii. :( I remember when I got my Wii, after months of waiting for them to become available, I was ecstatic. But then I finished Twilight Princess in a week and... and... went right back to grinding in Final Fantasy XII on PS2. The Wii is fun in short stints but I'm so glad I have other consoles to play; I'd be ridiculously bored with just the Wii. o_O; |

Do you have a Wii Remote Jacket? Makes the remote much more comfy. Anyway, I love lots of things about my Wii. But there are things I don't like or wish were different. - HD output. Even if the graphics aren't anywhere near as good as on the 360 or PS3, I would still like at least 720p output instead of 480p. I hate the jaggies it makes having to upconvert 480p to a 1080p or even 720p set. - Better motion support. The pointer is incredibly accurate. But any motion controls beyond basic left/right leaning or pure waggling just...doesn't work. Anything in 3D space (like making a pulling motion) is too frustrating. So, I'm really excited about MotionPlus, but it's not retroactive and I wish it was built in from the start. - Game Library. I think I have a fair amount of games so far, there are more I'm picking up soon and more I'll pick up later in the long run. I wish I had more to choose from though. Of what I have I'm only disappointed in Sonic and the Secret Rings and Super Paper Mario (but I'm willing to give the latter a second chance). There is good stuff. There is original stuff. My problem is that there should be more. Take a look at this breakdown I made based on information from Game Rankings... Wii E: 70+ is 29, 75+ is 21, 80+ is 10 E10+: 70+ is 6, 75+ is 3, 80+ is 1 T: 70+ is 19, 75+ is 12, 80+ is 7 M: 70+ is 6, 75+ is 4, 80+ is 2 PS3 E: 70+ is 36, 75+ is 32, 80+ is 20 E10+: 70+ is 12, 75+ is 11, 80+ is 5 T: 70+ is 35, 75+ is 24, 80+ is 19 M: 70+ is 31, 75+ is 25, 80+ is 21 360: E: 70+ is 76, 75+ is 59, 80+ is 39 E10+: 70+ is 29, 75+ is 20, 80+ is 12 T: 70+ is 68, 75+ is 48, 80+ is 31 M: 70+ is 55, 75+ is 44, 80+ is 33 That is pitiful. The low amount of M rated games is understandable given the demographic (although I don't think that's a good reason), but...even for E-T the Wii is in last! (Take out the sports title from the PS3 and 360 and it'd be a little closer though) Nintendo currently has more third party support than it did with the N64 and the GCN. But the third parties are making junk. The third parties are the problem. Nintendo has released 40 titles for the Wii, being a true Wii title or on WiiWare. 10 of those titles are below 70% on Game Rankings. 75% of what Nintendo puts out on the Wii has been quality. How many games ended up being above 70 on the Wii? 60 titles. 30 of which are from Nintendo. Half of the the good titles are from Nintendo alone. So, what Nintendo is producing is not the problem. It's the third parties. All that said though, I do play my Wii regularly. If I had to choose one of the other to consoles to have in addition to my Wii (not instead of) it would be the 360. But, even then...I don't think it's worth the price (although the recent price drop is tempting). It has quality titles. I know it does. I just showed that it does. But your own personal library also depends on your personal preferences. There are some titles I'm interested in for the 360, but not more than what I'm interested in for the Wii. I check weekly for new 360 games that might interest me. But it's not happening. :c A lot of the absolutely amazing games are M rated. I'm 19. I can play M rated games if I wanted. I'm fine with violence is games. Its when there's gratuitous violence or violence just for the sake of violence that bugs me. Going by the ESRB content descriptors I dislike... Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Sexual Violence, Strong Language, Strong Lyrics, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs. They don't gross me out or anything, I just don't get much fun out of playing such things. And a lot of the fantastic M games feature those things. So, then I move down into games from E-T and...kick out all the sports titles and the amount of E rated games I have to choose from is cut almost in half. If I won a 360 I would definitely put it to good use. If I won a PS3, it would be collecting dust because I already have a Blu-ray player and the only game I want to play on it is LittleBigPlanet. The Wii needs more original stuff like Zack & Wiki, World of Goo, Lost Winds, and No More Heroes from third parties. The system has a lot of potential and deserves better from third parties than minigame compilation, movie tie-ins, and PS2 ports. Still love my Wii though and wouldn't trade it for the 360 or the PS3. |
Man, I wish I even HAD the Wii. I don't even own a DS. How can I jump directly to Wii. I badly want a ds. I wish someone even from you could give me one if you have extra. I would play a used one even I have to.

Buy a NGC controller. 'Nuf said. Oh, and try out Smash Bros. brawl. Great game!
Truth be told, the wii is a bit of a failure. But it still kicks ass. oh, I wish I had a wii!!! |
I own a Wii, but I don't enjoy it much outside of Brawl and, uh, pirated WiiWare and Virtual Console games. Then again, I do have friends to play Brawl with and I usually frequent tournaments, so yeah.
Just like TRIFORCE89 said, I believe the problem with the Wii is that the 3rd Parties are just trying to make 'quick cash', and they rarely focus on quality. I hope next year will be different. |

Nope to the second question too. They had that offer when I was at school and I think you needed to send in your Wii's serial number or something? So I couldn't and I'm not spending money on something I'd only use, like, 40 hours in a year. :| |

It's still free! Go! Go! Go! |
I love it. Sure it collects dust here and there buts its absolutely funtastic! Seriously im on my 5th go of TP and im not bored and brawl is still kicking with GH3 and mario kart. Lets not mention that i got me a wave bird so that also gives umph to brawl and kart. So yeah i love it not hate it. If i had a 360 i wouldnt know what to do. Trash it or keep it for halo 3,bioshock,call of duty 4, and unreal torunament 3.
|
It's like Marmite, i find. People love it or hate it. I like it, but it can get annoying sometimes with the pointer and all that nonsense, but i am still playing GH3 and i have not gotten bored yet. Plus Brawl and Mario Kart are awesome, like ~Link Smash~ said. But if you want some awesome games like Fable II and Halo 3, then the 360 beats the Wii. But i find the Wii fun to play, despite annoying sometimes.
|
Look, I love the wii, Nintendo make awesome games for it but I must say as I think it has been said in this thread that third parties just use it as a gimmick and don't make serious games for it at all. EA!!! I am most annoyed with EA. Last year I was so looking forward to fifa 2008, until I found out you couldn't use your gamecube controller and they left out so much more!, you couldn't even do a CAREER MODE!. So Fifa 2009. Graphics are worse than GCN fifa 2004 graphics... But they have added a career mode...But no be a pro mode! I think Ah well at least I finally have an updated fifa in which you can use your GCN controller. Plus includes a pointless "Footii match" They're just using the Wii as a Guinea pig to test stupid "Family Play" and "All-Play" modes. ---------------- Listening to: Blur - Jets via FoxyTunes |
The Wii is great, I am buying one in a few weeks, I honestly can't find anything wrong with it =)
|
It's fun, i dont regret getting it over a 360 but, It seems like good games aren't coming out quite as fast as good games for the 360. i'm not to happy with brawl either, the online servers suck. I hope they release a patch for wii speak compatibility with all wi-fi compatible games...
i'm also kida dissapointed in the fac that the wii remotes don't come with rechargeable batteries. |

When I first played the Wii at my friend's house, I thought it was very idiotic and it was to hard for me to throw the football or play ping-pong or anything else.
Now I love it. All I need now is a Wii. |
I think there's something you're all forgetting:
Nintendo never exactly intended to make an ultimate game experience for teens and young adults when they made the Wii. It was designed for younger kids. Why else would there be very few mature games? Besides, like a few other people have said, there are great games on the Wii like Mario Kart and Smash Bros. Brawl. If people are looking for blood, sex, drugs and maybe a different way of playing a game, buy a 360 (or a PS3 if you're loaded with cash). If things like Mario and Zelda don't give you a kick anymore because you have to be constantly waving the Wii-mote around, don't play the Wii. |
