Favorite game soundtrack
Does anyone here have any one favorite game soundtrack (or a couple or more?)?
Whilst I find ones like Halo's, Chrono Cross', Mass Effect's, Unreal's (for the serenely urban tone to the music), Fable's, LOTR: FOTR's (the game), Pokémon's, DBZ: The Legacy of Goku's (the first and second), and a few others awesome, I'd have to give that merit to The Elder Scroll 4: Oblivion's soundtrack. It has a Howard Shore/LOTR level of poignancy in its tones in my ears but without sounding like a rip off and while still maintaining power to the notes as long as the game will allow. I liked Morrowind's soundtrack as well but I feel there's a strong division between the two so Oblivion gets my vote. Jeremy Soule (the composer of Morrowind and Oblivion) knows what he's doing. How about you guys? |
These are all the games with the music I adore:
Final fantasy Chrono trigger Megaman Mother/earthbound all zelda games except the cdi ones mario |
~Pokémon D/P
~Super Smash Brothers Brawl ~Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales (!!!) ~Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga/Partners in Time |
I'll try narrowing this down to as few as possible:
- Kingdom Hearts Complete soundtrack - The World Ends With You - Final Fantasy IX - Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals - Final Fantasy VII - Pokémon G/S/C And quite a few others. |
Amon Tobin: Splinter Cell Chaos Theory
Hitman and Just Cause aren't bad either. |
Sonic 2 beta,
LoZ, Majoras Mask and Ocarina of Time, Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie SSBB Thats all so far! |
I mostly like songs, but if I have to point out full OST's...
-Super Paper Mario -Eternal Sonata -The World Ends With You -Wario Land 5: The Shake Dimension |
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is the definitive musical experience in gaming. Harry-Gregson Williams really outdoes himself with it.
Final Fantasy 6 also has a pretty amazing soundtrack, so does Silent Hill 1. |
The games I really like with the best music are sonic the hedgehog, halo, pokemon, mega man, shining force 1 and 2, guitar hero games, rock band games, this one yu-gi-oh game, legend of zelda, kirby, donkey kong country games, Heroes of mana, Final Fantasy games from super nintendo and I think thats enough games for me to list. lol

Favourite tracks from each as follows:

Pokémon gameboy games have really good songs, I think. Some original tunes from R/B/Y can never be done better (FR/LG really did bad remixes :x) and G/S/C has even better music overall. R/S/E has some tunes that stick out and are my favorites, and D/P has got the best, and of course most advanced, soundtrack overall. And I still haven't played the games properly, I just have the soundtrack but still like it :3 And I just have to bring up LBA2... It's so weird a game is out now that's called Little Big Planet. I used to play a game called Little Big Adventure 2 (didn't have the original) and it was actually the very game that taught me English so I became the best in my grade at it xD anyway, the music from it is really epic, even though they couldn't/didn't make any advanced orchestral soundtracks at that time (about -96 methinks). Here's some examples :D -is eager to convince people that this is the best game evah- Gabriel's song - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVAevdLm-HE The Empire - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GTYeyYnfaI&feature=related |
Thats a rather easy question. The best video game OST, IMO, would have to be Super Smash Bros. Brawl's. I actually still have all 300ish tracks on my comp. |
I like Halo's, but ever since my dad started using one of the instrumentals as his ringtone, I get annoyed with the music when I play H2.
Oh, and Unreal's soundtrack (if they ever had one, I just love the music) is awesome. |
The following games have my favorite OST:
-Super Smash Bros. Brawl -Super Mario Galaxy -Ledgend of Zelda: Ocarana of Time -Ledgend of Zelda: Wind Waker -Paper Mario That's a simplified version of my list. The actual list is perhaps too long. |
I like...
Banjo-Kazooie by Grant Kirkhope. Just fun and goofy...and some times epic. Final Fantasy VI by Nobuo Uematsu. A musical masterpiece, be it game music or not. GoldenEye 007 by Graeme Norgate and Grant Kirkhope. They got so much out of the James Bond theme that sometimes it isn't even recognizable. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time by Koji Kondo. A classic. The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap by Mitsuhiko Takano. An interesting blend of Zelda and Capcom. The new and original songs are a treat. Paper Mario by Yuka Tsujyoko and Taishi Senda. They did a fantastic job of imitating Kondo's style. I think it turned out better than if Kondo actually did it himself. XD Yoshi's Island by Koji Kondo. Different from the main Mario tunes, but still similiar. Gave Yoshi a flavour all his own. Metroid Prime. Not good to listen to on its own, but works incredibly well in-game. Very atmospheric. |
Kingdom Hearts Original Soundtrack Complete(Downloaded the other day!)
Final Fantasy VII SMRPG PM SSBB |
- Command & Conquer: Red Alert series by Frank Klepacki
- Command & Conquer: Generals - Zero Hour by Bill Brown - Halo, Halo 2, and Halo 3 by Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori - Call of Duty by Michael Giacchino - Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies, Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War, Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War, and Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation by Keiki Kobayashi |
pikachu192's Favorite Soundtracks

I would also mention Tiberian Sun the music really added to the Grim atmosphere given by the wasteland maps and it may seem old and poor quality compared to modern electronic music but I still love it. |
Favorite soundtracks:
White: Melodies of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance Cave Story / Doukutsu Monogatari Soundtrack Minna Daisuki Katamari Damacy Original Soundtrack Megalomania (It's an early Megaman album, containing rock remixes of many Megaman songs) MOTHER: Vocal Collections Mother 3+ Super Mario Galaxy Platinum Version (OST) The Vidya - The Official Soundtrack 1-7 I don't want to count the Brawl Soundtrack, since that's just 1 GB of other songs. |

I can't believe no one said the Street Fighter series. Dude, that is by far my favorite music from a game franchise. Especially Vega's stage theme, which is made entirely of win. And sex. :D
...Ken's stage come in at a close second with Guile's being third. Oh and Ryu's...actually, eff that, they're all amazing. |
→ Kingdom Hearts Complete OST (encompasses all three games plus the FMs. :'D It counts!)
→ Super Smash Bros. Brawl (covers like every Nintendo franchise) → Tales of Symphonia → Final Fantasy VII (and Crisis Core) → Okami → The World Ends With You → Little Big Planet → Ace Attorney series Most of those are in no particular order. :] But those are my favourites. |
I absolutely love Morrowind's music. When you first come out the Census Office and you hear the music and see the town, the music is prefect for that moment and I loved it ever since.
|
Definitely FFVII. Amazing soundtrack, there are only 1 or 2 games on it that I don't like. Pretty much all of Nobuo Uematsu's work is amazing too, so the Final Fantasy games by him and KH also have great soundtracks. I think his best work was in FFVII though.
|
Donkey Kong Country 2, Doukutsu Monogatari, Katamari Damacy, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Touhou Project.
Best five vidya soundtracks ever. I would include Brawl, but 80% of its songs are from other games, so lol. |
Super Mario Overworld
Through the Fire and Flames DRagonforce Music(GH) GSC Legendary dog Music Battle |
Oh, definitely the original Jet Set Radio soundtrack.
Hideki Naganuma. <3 |
...this is all arbitrary for me 'cause it changes daily, buuuuuuut...let's do a top four.
4~The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ageseasons 16-bit music has this certain ring to it that the ones after can't match...Symmetry City; Ancient Ruins 3~Frogger Meh, they're memorable...Lave Crush; Airshow Antics 2~Megaman Battle Network 2 The first Star Force and this one clashed for a while...this one won out. All in the MMBN story continuum from the third SF to the first BN have pretty nice soundtracks, but none of them by themselves are REALLY outstanding. But I love how they can weave the same general short set of notes in almost every song in a game (play song after song from a a single game, know what you're doing, and you should see this artistry). Go find examples yourself...it shouldn't be hard. 1~Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim (PS2; PSP) I wouldn't expect anyone here to be familiar with this game (I had never heard of the Ys series before being drawn to the box art), but the soundtrack is amazing. Eat up this epic generic boss theme...it has a nice, idyllic forest called Quatera Woods. Throw it into the Youtube search bar... |

Also, Morrowing had a great soundtrack. Mostly its opening theme. |
Mother itself has one of the best soundtracks ever (far better than 2 or 3), in my opinion.
I just prefer the vocal collection, because Warwick's Pollyanna is so beautiful. ;_; |
Quote:
And I agree, she does have a beautiful voice. |
Breath Of Fire 4
Men of War A Warring God Yet Mechants will go Emperor Rampant Final Fantasy Feel my Blade The man with the Machine gun Well, thats all I can think of right now! :) |
absolutly not pokemons :D. hmmm i guess its mario kart ds's music, but in the big picture i dont like any game's music ....
|
Mid night club 3 soundtrack is bad***
and Final Fantasy II |
Just to name a Few, some of my favourite soundtracks include:
Mother 3 Star Ocean: Till The End of Time Final Fantasy IV Final Fantasy VII Final Fantasy VIII Final Fantasy X Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core Kingdom Hearts Kingdom Hearts II Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal [I play a lot of Final Fantasy, Lol.] |
I loved the Mario Galaxy soundtrack!! I had lots of favorite music tracks on there. I liked Good Egg Galaxy, Gusty Gardens, Purple Coins, and all the dramatic sounding stuff. ^^
I also liked the Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World soundtrack. It brought back so much nostalgia from the original Symphonia when I would hear the same music.. ^^ But my favorite track was the final boss theme from it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2E17Nk6Flg so awesome! <3 |

The World Ends With You
Phoenix Wright Apollo Justice that's all i can think of. |
Golden Sun, Fire Emblem, and (lol) Pokemon have great music (well..some Pokemon music. XD)
|
Any Mother games (1, 2, and 3).
Gosh, I love them so muuuuch. ;A; |
I spent about $40.00 on my favorite game soundtracks; both of which come from game variations of eachother. You may or may not know of the games Magic Pengel and Graffiti Kingdom? Well, those are my favorite soundtracks. Haka no Niwa, being the title of Graffiti Kingdom's soundtrack, and Garakuta Masterpiece Theater Rakugaki Oukoku being the title of Magic Pengel's soundtrack. I find the majority of the tracks exciting, yet pieceful at the same time and listen to them often before I go to bed from the DVD player in my room. Something about them also bring out memories and child-like qualities that I possessed just a few years back when I constantly played the actual game (which I would highly recommend to those creative). I also like the Kingdom Hearts OST, though I haven't listened to any of those tracks in forever; wanting to listen to them has increased significantly over these past few days of watching random fandubs of the games.
Edit: Oh! Also, I listen to some tracks (though I only own Calling) off of The World Ends With You soundtrack. |
