What 3 starters would be perfect for a game containing all the worlds?

I personally would like
Chikorita
Charmander
MudKip
That is just me. What ones would you choose?

StrickeN November 20th, 2008 9:51 AM

Why don't they make a new region, that you go to all regions with new starters?

I'd like to see some more adversity int he starters.

So far it's always Grass/Water/Fire, hoping maybe one day a dark / fighting / psychic or something like that

Tyranitar042 November 20th, 2008 10:04 AM

i like the fact about what stricken says about the dark fighting and psychic types in would be really cool i think if new ones were to come out mainly b/c no pokemon that is of those types evolve all the way without trading so it would be a little pointless and there arent any dark types that evolve all the way through 2 different levels except tyranitar but he isnt a dark type right of the bat so its a little mixed new pokes would have to be made.

Tanooki November 20th, 2008 1:19 PM

I really doubt we'll ever see any new types of starters, especially from obscure types like Dark and Fighting (not that I'm saying anything is wrong with those types; just that they aren't very common). The closest thing to a change in the starter pattern we've gotten was Pikachu in Yellow; if anything, I think another Electric-type starter might not be out of the question down the road (which would be fine with me, since it's my favorite type).

shanecdavis November 20th, 2008 1:20 PM

My starters would be:

Charmander
Bulbasuar
Mudkip

I like the 1st Gen starters, but nothing comes close to Swampert.

On the subject of a new region with different type starters, which I had foolishly expected DPP to do, here is what I would like:

Electric
Ground
Water

There would also be ONE Legendary that you could catch in-game. It would be a Dark/Psychic-type, and as the story unfolds you would discover this legendary is actually an early version of Mewtwo that was discarded and thought to have been destroyed. Turns out that it survived and is seeking revenge on its creators and more importantly a confrontation with Mewtwo. Its stats would be similar to Mewtwo, but its SAtk and Atk would be reversed. The only way you could catch this Pokemon is if you imported Mewtwo into the game. Once imported, a cut scene would occur that would show Mewtwo escaping from your PokeBall, confronting you, attacking you with a Psychic attack, and then using Teleport. This would trigger a whole new sequence of events that centered around tracking down Mewtwo and ultimately preventing the new Legendary from destroying the entire region in its unwavering quest for revenge.

Red1530 November 20th, 2008 7:31 PM

My choice would be:
  • Treecko
  • Charmander
  • Mudkip

Outlander November 20th, 2008 8:24 PM

bulbasaur
chimchar
mudkip

or
turtwig
charmander
mudkip

MartinNFLFalcon November 20th, 2008 8:33 PM

Eh.
Honestly.
As long as charmander is in there I'm fine.
But, in my opinion.
Charizard should be Dragon.
Instead of Fire/Flying.
He'd be all the more powerfull.

Im liking the mewtwo story line but it seems like it would be kind of a stretch but it sounds like it'd add some fresh new fun to and already beaten pokemon game if something like that could take place

p.s. I love my larvitar so if i could start with him id be in heaven lol

Dragonair_Blizzard November 20th, 2008 10:47 PM

I think that Charmander, Mudkip and treeko is the best combo.

Azonic November 21st, 2008 4:01 AM

Technically speaking, the starter choices for anyone roaming the regions (following the timeline of Pokemon, of course) would always be Squirtle, Charmander, and Bulbasaur. This is because the Kanto region comes first in the timeline, and it progresses into the future generations.

Anyways, if I did have a choice, it would be:

1. Piplup: Liking how cute he is; he's also pretty curious and clumsy, in an adorable way. xD
2. Chikorita: This one just seems really energetic, compared to the other grass starters. The other grass starters are uuuugly.
3. Torchic: Hard to decide for the fire types, because I liked them all a lot. I just didn't want two Pokemon from the same region, and Torchic wins Charmander.

Not judging by strength on any of these, of course. x_o

Azumi November 21st, 2008 6:53 AM

Mine is:

1. Turtwig - I don't know. But in my anime fantasies, I got Turtwig as a gift.
2. Torchic - Anime fantasies. Pwnage!
3. Mudkip - I was gonna choose Squirtle, but then I changed my mind. Swampert pwns Electric, man!

OR if I get my own choice...

1. Pikachu - Anime fantasy starter. Seriously. (Electric)
2. Glameow - Fanfic-striken. I love the elegance of Glameow. (Normal)
3. Cherubi - My fave thing - flowers. (Grass)

A Pixy November 21st, 2008 7:00 AM

Well, since Swampert and Sceptile are both butt fugly (my opinion, deal with it) I'd have to say

Turtwig
Charmander
Totodile

OR

Bulbasaur
Torchic
Piplup

Darth Chomuk November 21st, 2008 1:06 PM

Bulbasaur.
Cyndaquil.
Mudkip.

Lynnx November 21st, 2008 1:09 PM

1. Chikorita
2. Charmander
3. Piplup

Milke November 21st, 2008 2:59 PM

If and when I get Platinum I will trade myself a cyndaquil egg and beat the game with him =3

shinyursaring November 21st, 2008 2:59 PM

These are my favorites:

1. Turtwig
2. Torchic
3. Totodile

moon November 21st, 2008 3:39 PM

I guess you only refer to the three first generations, since this is the GBA section... o.o

Bulbasaur, Cyndaquil and Mudkip. Awesome it would be.

Crissy November 21st, 2008 6:12 PM

I would like to see Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Piplup ;D! Out of all of them I would pick Chikorita because I have always had a thing for Chikoritas, they are just so cute.

Legobricks November 21st, 2008 7:37 PM

Preferrably not Pokemon in the grass-fire-water triangle.

Though... given the implication around here that by starter you mean only the designated starter Pokemon, I'll go with the Kanto ones, since it's predictable that the player will start in Kanto if all the regions are together in the same game.

Ineffable~ November 21st, 2008 7:57 PM

I would choose
  • Turtwig (Some badass evolution! :D)
  • Charmander (Duh... dragon! RAWR!:10:)
  • Mudkip (Water+Ground= pwnage)
Or, perhaps...

  • Chikorita (Look at the leaf on its head!:5: And Meganium's kewl)
  • Torchic (Blaziken could totally kill you, and you know it.)
  • Piplup (piplup! pipluuuup! pip pip!)
Considering what Fable said about no Generation IV pokemon, here's another list:

  • Chikorita (:5:need any more reason?)
  • Charmander (RAWR!:10:)
  • Mudkip (*evolves* try hitting me with Thunderbolt.....:t260:)
This is all in an attempt to never use the same generation twice.

Dark_Master November 22nd, 2008 8:02 AM

Cyndquil, mudkip and bulbasaur :D

Zennyo Ryūō November 22nd, 2008 8:34 AM

Cyndaquil, Chikorita and Totodile. The Johto starters.

Vegeta™ November 22nd, 2008 8:54 AM

Slugma [Fire]
Barboach [Water] [Ground]
Snover [Grass] [Ice]

I think this is fair.

Pikazard November 22nd, 2008 9:07 AM

New starter types they would be: Ground Gible Rock Ryhorn and electrick:shinx

Even thought their not all super effective and not very effective against each other!

Korronensu November 22nd, 2008 2:24 PM

Types.... Ice, Steel, Dragon

Spheal, Aron, Dratini (without dragon rage)

Vernikova November 22nd, 2008 6:11 PM

Well, I would choose:

Totodile
Treeko
Chimchar or Cyndaquil

I tried to keep them with as little weaknesses as possible.

DarkPrince_ November 22nd, 2008 6:33 PM

Mine will come with explanations.

Johto: Cyndaquill (chickorita is only useful in one gym so why have it take up space.)
Kanto: Charmander (its useful in all of the gyms except for the first and second one.)
Hoenn: Mudkip (useful in every single gym.)
Sinnoh: Chimchar (the bump is the first gym, but after that it is dead useful especially in the elite four.)

There you have it.

Black Dunsparce November 23rd, 2008 6:00 AM

Alright, here it is. I made sure each one has two evolutions.

Normal Starters:
Chikorita, Grass.
Dratini, Water/Dragon.
Charmander, Fire.

New Starters:
Larvitar, Rock/Ground.
Ralts, Ghost.
Togepi, Normal.

Kurai Terios November 23rd, 2008 7:23 AM

A Dragon starter would be overused by new players, but awesome. c:

Anywho, I'd go for Totodile, Mudkip, and Charmander. XP

sasquatchd00d November 23rd, 2008 8:04 AM

Bulbasaur
Cyndaquil
Mudkip

Err.. Dratini is only Dragon type, and Ralts is Psychic. O_o

Anyways, just for everyone to know, Nintendo is probably never going to change out of the old Fire/Grass/Water cycle. Also, Fighting/Dark/Psychic and Electric/Flying/Ground won't work either, because the resistances are not equal. (i.e., Water is not very effective (nve) against Grass, Grass is nve against Fire, Fire is nve against Water. Dark is nve against Fighting, Fighting is nve against Psychic, but Psychic does no damage to Dark.)

I Laugh at your Misfortune! November 23rd, 2008 10:28 AM

how about fighting/rock/flying?

pidgey
machop
geodude

Wooper Kazama November 23rd, 2008 10:51 AM

Turtwig, Mudkip and Torchic!

Exactly. No better way to explain this.

Sorry about that, thanks for correcting me. And of course Nintendo is never going to do this, its just fun suggestiong other options for starters.

Banjora Marxvile November 23rd, 2008 11:05 AM

How about Chinchou, Taillow, and Exeggcute? Thats a triangle that works! Its possible. Might need a different Flying... If there was a Skarmory Pre-Evo...

Rock types do normal damage against fighting types, I believe.

I think this is fair.

Three slow Pokemon? I don't think I would have the patience for that. Just training Slugma and then dealing with Magcargo in my latest Sapphire was enough. =P

...and on the note of Snover, that has to be one of the worst type combo's ever created. I really have to wonder what incentive they give for people to use it.

Ashen November 23rd, 2008 5:39 PM

Chikorita, Torchic, Piplup.

I'd love to see Cyndaquil in there, but if you're going to have all the regions, it's best to have something from each region (sans Kanto, unfortunately). For the Kanto starters, it could be something like from Yellow version, where someone would have the starters to give you.

BassFace November 24th, 2008 5:53 PM

If there existed a game with all the regions, I'd like to be able to choose which region you started the game from. It would be nice to have the available starter Pokemon depend on the region you chose as your starting region. For example, if you started from Hoenn, you'd get to pick from Treecko, Torchic and Mudkip, or if you started from Kanto, you'd get to pick from Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle.

If I had to pick a list of three starters to make one starter set, though, here's who I'd pick:

Grass: Chikorita (Johto)
Fire: Charmander (Kanto)
Water: Mudkip (Hoenn)

i was going to say that.
when you start a new game it will ask you where you live(Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh) then ask if you are a boy or girl and all that stuff.

Caelus November 25th, 2008 9:09 PM

My choices would have to be the following (With reasons, of course!):

Piplup: I'm a small fan of Piplup, mostly because of its final evolution, Empoleon, which is, and has been, my favorite pokemon since I first laid eyes on it.
Treecko: Treecko's evolution focuses on speed, which the other grass-types seem to lack, so I fought the grass-type would take a different role.
Cyndaquil: Cyndaquil has a good move pool followed by a good evolution family and I already picked a Hoenn and Sinnoh starter (I wanted to include one per region, so I had to omit Torchic and Chimchar).

All of them are also based off of favoritism.

Weavile1110101 November 25th, 2008 9:19 PM

Go with:
Chikorita
Charmander
Mudkip

I don't like fire/fighting types, but that's just me. These three would be my choices. (I also don't like any 4th gen starters. Cue flaming!)

Quote:

Same here.

EDIT: Sorry BassFace, didn't see you there. Ah well...

FairyGarland November 25th, 2008 10:48 PM

My picks are:
*Squirtle
*Chikorita
*Torchic

calmal November 27th, 2008 5:47 PM

well if you could manage it put all starters from the other games so that way you have a wider selection though i know that would be difficult to do

austin_pika November 27th, 2008 7:05 PM

My choice would be:

Piplup, Torchic, and Chikorita

Giratina ♀ November 29th, 2008 8:15 AM

  1. Chimchar (Fire)
  2. Totodile (Water)
  3. Bulbasaur (Grass)
Yeahmhm.

Bulletproof November 29th, 2008 8:25 AM

I'd go with:

Grass - Treecko.
Fire - Cyndaquil.
Water - Squirtle.

I know, all regions except Sinnoh, the latest. Oh well.

True Reign November 29th, 2008 3:03 PM

For the normal cycle of water/grass/fire, I would go with:
- Charmander
- Totodile
- Mudkip

For a new cycle it would be:
- (Dragon) Dratini
- (Rock) Geodude
- (Ghost) Gastly

I would go with Geodude on mine. :)

ranger of almia November 29th, 2008 3:07 PM

I would have to say.
Totodile
Chikorita
Torchic This would be the all star line up.

hothead November 29th, 2008 5:45 PM

Charmander
Totodile
Turtwig

shanecdavis November 29th, 2008 6:00 PM

You do know neither Totodile nor Mudkip are Grass, right?

RaikaCastillo November 29th, 2008 6:11 PM

Treecko
Charmander
Piplup

*is brutally stoned to death by Mudkip fans*

Swift! November 29th, 2008 6:22 PM

Charmander
Totodile
Treecko

Their evolution lines all seem the most... "alike".

Eucliffe November 29th, 2008 7:41 PM

In my opinion, if we kept the original three elements and starters:

Chikorita
Cyndaquil
Mudkip

If we kept the elements but chose non-starter Pokemon:

Exeggcute
Growlithe
Staryu

If we chose three different elements that all negated each other:

Meditite
Spoink
Poochyena

OR

Spheal (as an Ice type)
Aron (as a Steel type)
Swinub (as a Ground type)

So yeah :/

True Reign November 29th, 2008 7:57 PM

Yeah, I know that. None of the grass starters really appeal to me as much as Totodile and Mudkip do.

spike6958 November 29th, 2008 8:50 PM

Using allready used starters i would pick either:
Turtwig
Charmander
Totodile
Or:
Bulbasaur
Cyndaquil
Mudkip

but if i was to do what i would really like to i would have Eevee as the starter.

Alakazam17 November 29th, 2008 9:07 PM

Hmm...interesting question.

Well, if it contained all of the regions, then perhaps it should allow you to choose which region you start in. Thus, the starters available would depend on which area you chose.

To list the perfect three, I'd of course have to go with my favourite from each type:

Torchic
Totodile
Turtwig

Kozoi November 30th, 2008 8:07 AM

Magikarp, Magikarp and Magikarp would be ftw.

Sentret November 30th, 2008 8:32 AM

Charmander
Treeko
mudkip
these would do good I guess:/

wu_tiger November 30th, 2008 10:52 AM

Well my ideal one would be

Cyndaquil
Piplup
Bulbasaur

In my own pokemon world I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE

Baby version of lapras, this gives laprs 2 new evolutions
Vulpix, gives a 3rd evolution
Ralts

JezzaRules November 30th, 2008 5:05 PM

I dont mind any starter as long as they arent broken (in other words: crap)
Out of all the starters I've used so far, none of them are broken in any way.
