Pokémon Zinc & Mercury - Myths of Nara

Pokémon Zinc & Mercury - Myths of Nara
Fwaah.

Introduction
Well, after much consideration, I am creating a new hack. Based on the Japanese prefecture of Nara (Nara-Ken 奈良県), this region is all about deviation. New pokémon, new types, new people, new trainers, new rivals, new challenges, a completely new region, new plotline, new tiles, new moves, new items, new abilities, new natures, new towns, and all in all, a whole new game. Almost everything will be different. You won't recognize the types, moves, abilities or pokémon. It will be like playing R/B/Y for the first time again. In fact, this will actually be a PREQUEL to the first generation. So, that's a little summary, and let the development begin!

Basic Plotline
You are a teenage boy living in the region of Sinnoh. After your father gets a job offer in the region of Kinki, you and your family decide to move there. After much consideration about costs and comfort, you decide to take a plane to Kinki. Unfortunately, you have a secret phobia of flying. Quietly, you slip off the plane at the last minute, without the consent of your parents. You drive home and turn on the television, and then all of the colour drains from your face. The last thing that you hear before passing out is the breaking news that broke your heart.

"No survivors in the SinnohAir flight to Kinki. We send our thoughts to the many bereaved families. This must be a tough time for you."

You wake up after your four-week coma in a hospital bed, which apparantly is situated in the region of Nara, a region shrouded by myths and legends, with sightings of rare and unique pokémon covering the news every day. After overhearing the doctors whispering about the new pokémon that had been sighted on the hospital grounds, a pokémon that is rumoured to bring the dead back to life, you realise that maybe it isn't so bad after all. Your dreams may be fufilled. Your parents may be able to come back. There is only one option. You must catch the pokémon of life and bring your loving parents back to life!

Media (Screenshots, Videos, Mapshots)
None at the moment.

Hacking Information
Tonight, I am going to hack Pokémon FireRed!
The hack will be in English, and will have two slightly different versions.

The New Types
There will be completely new types, replacing the old ones. I will add a type-chart later, but for now, here are the types.

- Fauna. Previously the Normal-type, now it literally is home to most mammals and most other land animals.
- Flora. Used to be the Grass-type, it is the counter-balance to Fauna.
- Aqua. Was known as Water previously.
- Metal. I had a problem with the Steel-type. Why name a type after a certain metal when you could name it after the actual group where it came from?
- Terra. I've combined the Rock and Ground types to create the Terra-type. This was quite logical and lets pokémon like Golem, which happens to be Rock/Ground, obtain another type.
- Mystic. The new naming for the Psychic-type, as well as the Dragon-type. This lets magical pokémon come into this category, as well as rare and elusive pokémon, like dragons. I never liked the Dragon-type.
- Chemical. One of the "radical" decisions. The Poison-type now has a larger basis, as chemicals come into this group as well. Almost a new type, as it covers a lot more than the original Poison-type.
- Ice. Stays the same.
- Fire. Also stays the same.
- Electric. A WINNER IS YOU...for noticing that this type stays the same as well.
- Indefinite. Covers anything without a real form, deviating from just ghosts and ghouls.
- Wind. Covers more than simply things with wings. I always thought that the Flying-type was too specific, as sometimes Flying-types float or levitate.
- Combat. Fighting was always bad for gentle yet strong pokémon, so I made it into the Combat-type.
- Crystal. Yes, a new type! The Crystal-type covers all gem-like pokémon.
- Dark. Still stays the same.
- Light. I know it's been done so many times before, but the game needs Dark and Light to work properly.
- Arthropod. Covers more than the usual Bug-type.
- Artificial. Another new type, which covers man-made things.

Careful

This hack has some very careful Plotting, i like the storyline..
The question is, can you keep up to your story in scripts?
Good luck bud!

Disturbed November 22nd, 2008 9:54 AM

Wow, if you can manage to pull off everything mentioned in your first post, I'd be blown away.

Seriously, it'd take years to complete this without a full team...

Anyways, I wish you luck, if you can actually do this... =O

Oh, I forgot to mention that I'm recruiting a team.

And you would be surprised at my huge amount of free timehacking speed.

Disturbed November 22nd, 2008 10:07 AM

Well, if you show proof soon, I'd join you as a mapper.
Only if I know this actually has a chance ;D

Good Luck =P

machomuu November 22nd, 2008 10:35 AM

like the story, and it's possible, so good luck!

Νιτραμ November 22nd, 2008 10:54 AM

Your thread layout is amazing. Purely amazing. You are real perfectionist - congratulations.

Anyway, could I recommend using FireRed instead of Ruby? It offers the great possibility of using level scripts (a very handy feature that you discover later), and the graphics engine is highly customizable, in comparison to Ruby where you're stuck with weird door animations. It is up to you, of course, but this thing always helped me to decide when I wasn't sure on which one to hack.

EDIT: One more thing, I want to wish you good luck as it will be hard to implement new attacks etc.

Banjora Marxvile November 22nd, 2008 10:57 AM

I love the new types that are replacing the old. Thats unique. I'm going to keep an eye on this, and the moves are good. Yay! More bugs! I like the new Pokedex, and I hope the Fakemon are good.

Anyway, I wish you luck.

I knew that there was something that I had got wrong. For some reason which I myself can't figure out, I thought that it was Ruby with the level scripts.

Fix'd. Thanks for pointing that one out to me.

Also, I'm pretty good at implementing new attacks and abilities.

Mitchman November 22nd, 2008 11:20 AM

Hmm this seems nice. But by the looks of it jhoto doesnt exist. I mean in the japan map jhoto is on that part of land and around it. Oh well what can we do. If this does grow to be what you say im impressed.

Ninja Caterpie November 22nd, 2008 2:41 PM

Bibliophibian November 22nd, 2008 4:23 PM

it'll be super impressive if you can get all of this pulled together.
it seems like you have a lot of things planned out already, which is always good.

best of luck with this. :3

Naruto Uzumaki The Nine Tailed Fox November 22nd, 2008 4:54 PM

I like the Pokemon Types you made up.

Zennyo Ryūō November 22nd, 2008 11:16 PM

Thanks Dark Lakitu. Bear in mind that 'Chance of Effect' means the chance of an additional effect happening, like a burn happening with Ember. Place the actual effect in the description.

*adds*

And thank you everyone else for the comments.

Ripper November 22nd, 2008 11:50 PM

Looks interesting, though you seem to wsitch the types around a lot.

You list both Earth (Table) and Terra (List), as well as both Ghost (Starter) and Indefinite (List).

I always liked the idea of a Mineal Type (Rock, Ground, Steel).

The Terra-type was originally going to be Earth-type, and I haven't changed it yet. Thanks for pointing out that pokédex error, though.

Also, I considered a Mineral-type, but wasn't sure about the weaknesses and resistances.

Vrai November 24th, 2008 7:00 PM

O_o

I'd be seriously amazed if you could pull this off.

And then, I would grab the ips and run.

Zennyo Ryūō November 25th, 2008 3:45 AM

I'm under a lot of pressure now, aren't I?

Hmm. Feel free to suggest pokémon designs and ideas.

Pre-Alpha is going well, it should be released in December.

Mitchman November 25th, 2008 6:59 AM

NO not pressure never feel that way. I mean a lot of people quit due to that. Just think that its a good thing people are happy with you and that its a good thing to help the people be happy. Also never post a release dat sort of thing. It rushes things and thus the final product is worse. Take your time make sure everything is correct and release when ready!

Zennyo Ryūō November 25th, 2008 7:17 AM

That's why I said December. I didn't announce when in the month. Thanks for the advice though.

Check out the pokédex. I've added loads of new sprites.

Mitchman November 25th, 2008 7:22 AM

Hmm intresting. I would make some improvements to some sprites as some are good quality while others arent. Maybe you could search for a good spriter. Unlike scripters those people are easy to find and they would love to help.

rockeymon100 November 25th, 2008 7:35 AM

Sounds Like a cool game I cant wait for the IP's. Is There anyway I can help like with maps or text editing? I would love to help.

Zennyo Ryūō November 25th, 2008 7:54 AM

I'd apprieciate some maps, thanks.

Final Fantasy November 25th, 2008 10:18 AM

I'll help with beta testing and the likes.

omomo0725 November 25th, 2008 12:06 PM

well i finished the anteater but its definatly not my best work

Zennyo Ryūō November 26th, 2008 12:08 AM

It's nice. Accepted.

Oh, and I know that some sprites aren't amazing quality. They're there so that they can be improved upon.

Wichu November 26th, 2008 2:24 AM

Just some things about the moves...
There's a 12-letter limit for move names, which you've gone over with a few of them.

Also, some of the moves have completely new effects. As far as I know, it's impossible to add new move effects to a ROM. Same goes for abilities.

Zennyo Ryūō November 26th, 2008 8:36 AM

I was thinking about that. I'm going to program the moves as well as possible. The names aren't finalised, so I'll be able to edit them when I actually implement them into the game. Ability-wise, hex editing may help me.

I thank you for your advice.

Also, when should this go into "Progressing Hacks"?

Hiche.. November 26th, 2008 9:04 AM

To go to the Progressing Hacks, you should have at least 5 screen shots, as the rules state. Anyways, I like this hack, and hope to see more of it. Good luck.

Thanks. Erm, is anyone here a spriter? Can someone help with the empty slots in the Pokédex?
