Do you think this would be a good topic for a fanfiction?

I have recently just gotten the new Pokemon Rangers game and love it so far. I beat the first Pokemon Ranger and loved it and has been wondering if it would be a good topic to start a fanfiction on someone being a Pokemon Ranger. I think parts would be a little dificult such as when to use their poke assists and then how you get the pokemon, but I think I might be able to work with it. So. Do you think it would be a good topic?

Go for it. Sounds really interesting!

Wow. Quick reply I only posted this thread about 3 minutes ago. Anyway, I might. Don't know if I should do it based off the first or second game. i will probably do it after the first game because that is the one I have the guide book on anyway. It might be up tomorrow maybe sometime next week if I decide to do it.

I say no, only because most fics that are based off of a game are usually not very good.

If you have a nact for uber descriptions, and awe inspiring writing ability, then go ahead.

That would be like someone coming up to me and saying that I shouldn't write my Pokemon Original Trainer fic because other people's Pokemon Original Trainer fics are not good. My writing skill obviously does not equal another person's writing skill.

If Pikalover10 wants to write this fic, then Pikalover10 can write this fic. Besides, it would give them experience writing that they wouldn't get if they didn't write this fic. The reviews they would get would help them improve their writing.

Pikalover10, as a suggestion, don't just tell the game as if you were playing it. Add your own twist to the plot line to get readers. Tell the story from a different character's point of view, or add in more thoughts than what is normally seen in the game, or even throw in a dash of humor.

Either way...go for it. =)

I say, that if you take a good look around first at some choice fanfics and guides around here, (assuming of course that you have little experiance about fanfics - if you do then no worries; albeit certainly won't hurt), and think out your story well, while using a decent level of description and all that jazz - go for it! After all, there's no real benefit from not trying it out.

EDIT: Found a decent Ranger-based one-shot here (you owe me one, PPG ;) ). Beware the link to another forum! O_O But it might help you on your quest, certainly. *shrugs*

Some pointers though - the biggest is being for you to not rush your story. Take the time to write it, edit it, improve on it, until it's got no mistakes (or close enough - i.e. you actually do read over it and use a spell/grammar check). After all, poorly present fanfics tend to only scare away readers, who don't want to decipher your mistakes or blocks of texts.

Also, think about your story in terms of plot. Don't do a simple copy and paste job of what happened in the game (unless you expand on everything really well, or opt for a parody) - why would someone want to read about it when they can simply 'play' the story? Try using your own ideas, while using the elements of the Pokemon Ranger game. That's important in keeping your story original, fresh and interesting. Fics that are practically the game in written form with nothing new on offer - like deeper characters or brillant description, or twists and turns in the plot, or a different perspective of the game - tend to be boring, simply.

Make sure your characters are more then just cardboard cutouts too - give them a personality. Make them like real people/Pokemon, with flaws or aspects in their character, that makes them realistic.

In description, consider what things look like, and how things happen, then describe them to us. Don't leave us in the dark what characters look like - this is a common mistake. Many would not be familar with the Ranger canon too, so consider also describing just Ranger-esque things in a way that educates us non-Ranger players without us asking 'what the...', without lecturing on about it too.

Better yet is to 'show us' rather then tell us what things look like. There is moe on that in the guides around here, I'm sure, it it involves describing it in a way that strongly hints towards something (e.g. She towered over her fellow classmates), rather then tell us directly (e.g. She was tall). The former is more engaging and interesting to read.

Keep those things in mind - make sure that you don't leave anything up in the air, yet don't ramble on about things too much. Include developed characters, describe them well, mix it in with a decent plot, or something that isn't exactly like the game you are basing it off, all while taking time with your fanfic to make sure you do those things.

And have fun with it too. That's pretty important - enjoy writing for what it is - writing. Good luck!

I say yeah, go for it. Pokemon Ranger games are almost as popular as the Mystery Dungeon ones but nowhere near as a fanfic topic even though the idea behind it is probably better. I've seen very few Ranger fics and I think they could be brilliant if written right.

If you want to, do it. Nobody's trying to stop you. If someone is, they are a nobody.

Ok......It will be difficult considering thi is my first time trying this and it probably won't be up until I get more expirience as a writer......Thanks for the comments and thanks for the link bobandbill.
