UU RMT #1

Well, it's my first RMT here (and a UU team at that!). I'm not sure I can select to make a team which works as a team, rather than a whole bunch of decent pokémon. Anyway, I think I need some help on this.

My Team

---------------------------

Chatot
[Norm/Fly]
Item: Focus Sash
Ability: Tangled Feet
Nature: Modest (+SpA, -Atk)
Moves: Chatter
Hyper Voice
Torment/Roost
Encore
EVs: 252 Speed, 82 SpA, 176 HP

My lead. Only Special, but hyper-annoying. Chatter for confusion (and signature move), hyper voice for super-STAB. Not sure about roost for healing or torment, as it is quite fragile and torment can be so annoying. Encore for that extra punch in the face.
---------------------------

Skuntank [Dark/Psn]
Item: Life Orb
Ability: Aftermath
Nature: Jolly (+Speed, -SpA)
Moves: Crunch
Poison Jab
Roar
Explosion
EVs: 106 Speed, 252 Atk, 152 Def

Physical Sweeper. Reliable STAB with good neutral coverage, STAB with good physical type coverage (most psychic/ghost types are severely weak to physical), roar for phazing and explosion as a finisher.
---------------------------

Bastiodon [Steel/Rock]
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
Nature: Careful (+SpD, -SpA)
Moves: Metal Burst
Taunt
Curse
Swagger
EVs: 252 HP, 172 SpD, 88 Def

A Counterer. Metal Burst absorbs and reflects any attack for extra damage, but defenses could prevent full use. Enigma Berry restores heatlh if hit by super effective, so extra hits on them. Taunt to ensure max usage of Metal Burst, Curse to bulk up stats, Swagger to kinda piss off and do more reflection damage.
---------------------------

Mr. Mime [Psy]
Item: Choice Specs
Ability: Filter
Nature: Timid (+Speed, -Atk)
Moves: Psychic
Shadow Ball
Thunderbolt
Trick
EVs: 252 Speed, 172 HP, 86 SpA

Mr. Mime is awesome. Fast, powerful, good sp. defense. Moves for type coverage, trick for physicals. Switch to something else. Classic choice set + sneakiness.
---------------------------

Poliwrath [Water/Fight]
Item: Salac Berry
Ability: Water Absorb
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
Moves: Waterfall
Substitute
Belly Drum
Focus Punch
EVs: 216 Atk, 216 Speed, 78 HP

Super-mega-awesome. Substitute for stalling, belly drum for 4x Atk and 1.5x Speed with Salac, Waterfall for STAB or Focus Punch for Sub-Punch. Possible reusability in Water Absorb (free switch-ins), however may screw up Salac activation.
---------------------------

Sandslash [Ground]
Item: Expert Belt
Ability: Sand Veil
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
Moves: Earthquake
Rock Slide
Stealth Rock
Rapid Spin
EVs: 252 Atk, 176 Speed, 82 Def

Rock/Ground good type coverage. EQ for power, STAB. Rock Slide for accuracy, flinch (shouldn't be too useful though... lousy speed). Stealth Rock for incomings and Rapid Spin for getting rid of things. Too bad Sand Veil won't be used though.

(Side Note: does Defog work like Rapid Spin? D/P Handbook says it does. Big shock!)

I await suggestions and the like.

[P.S. This would have pictures, but it keeps screwing up when I try to put them in. Yes, I am using the button near the centre of the formatting bar. I might try later through an edit.]

Focus sash on Bastiodon, and Mr. Mime is better used as a baton passer. Not sure about the rest, I'm not much for UU. Also replace poison jab on skuntank, can probably make better coverage use of a different move.

No way man Bastiodon can take hits use leftovers on him

Weavile1110101 November 24th, 2008 5:05 PM

Thanks, good idea. I will be using this to battle with the item clause, so usually I try to save leftovers for one pokémon. It seems i've forgotten to use it here.

Cacttus November 24th, 2008 5:08 PM

Which pokemon do you have covering for Poliwraths Water Absorb ?

Weavile1110101 November 24th, 2008 5:11 PM

Um? Sorry, not sure what you mean. Can you please explain?

Cacttus November 24th, 2008 5:15 PM

I mean if your gonna take advantage of Water Absorb which pokemon will help it benefit or will it just be by chance ?

Sorry I see Bas.

Weavile1110101 November 24th, 2008 5:21 PM

Well...

You're right. I guess Bastiodon and Sandslash could attract some water, with Surf being as popular as it is...

Bastiodon's defenses are almost equal. I could also use Mr. Mime, as he has pretty good (120 base) SpD. Maybe I should switch Sandslash for someone else...

Cacttus November 24th, 2008 5:30 PM

Well do you want both Sp def and Def ?

Meganium isn't looking too bad on this team. Is it Trick Room ?

Weavile1110101 November 24th, 2008 5:32 PM

No, not trick room. most of these are pretty fast, with Mr. Mime and Chatot being fastest.

Cacttus November 24th, 2008 5:39 PM

Yeah. May I suggest Weezing ? With only Psychic moves able to hit you'll only have to worry about a HP Ground pokemon.

There is also Probopass,Steelix, Shuckle ( If it's still UU)

Weavile1110101 November 24th, 2008 5:45 PM

For SpD? They all seem quite defensive (though I do know some interesting shuckle tricks e.g. power trick...)

Cacttus November 24th, 2008 5:53 PM

Shuckle is always a favorite. Since you were training Mr Mime in Sp def didn't think you needed another. How about Hypno ? It can be an attacker or Sp atk

Weavile1110101 November 24th, 2008 5:58 PM

There's a good range of helpful tools on psypokes.com which I use to help, esp. the 'Type Analyzer'. I generally try to stick to one of each type, however shuckle could be a useful addition, not adding any major weaknesses. How do you think I should train him and who should I replace?

Cacttus November 24th, 2008 6:08 PM

[email protected] Gluttony
252 HP 144 Def 110 Sp Def
Knock Off
Rest
Stealth Rock/Earthquake ( Depending if you want it to fight back)
Sleep talk might help or Encore

Weavile1110101 November 24th, 2008 6:15 PM

Ideas for nature? Wouldn't Gluttony be better with a berry, like enigma or sitrus? I mean, I have some good options here, like gastro acid, power trick or the ever-popular toxi-stall. Should it be my SR pkmn? Of course, it can have encore on top of all this. Maybe power trick won't be so good after all.

Just thinking. But definitely 252 HP EVs.

Cacttus November 24th, 2008 6:18 PM

Either Impish or Careful. If your worried about Items clause then you'll have you go with a berry, I was thinking about leftovers always a good choice since it can be used constantly.

A staller is ever annoying and Shuckle was bred for it.

Weavile1110101 November 24th, 2008 6:20 PM

I can change Bastiodon back to enigma, like he was originally.

EDIT: I am thinking of putting Shuckle over Sandslash.

Shuckle
Leftovers
Careful
Sturdy

Substitute
Stealth Rock
Toxic
Encore

Same EV spread as previously suggested. Any disagreements?

Do you think that Poliwrath will be to weak to use Belly Drum then Sub for Focus Punch, most pokemon can out run it before it can get the hit out.

Maybe 252 Atk 172 Spd 82

Maximize attack so you won't have to use Belly Drum.

Weavile1110101 November 24th, 2008 6:31 PM

It's got waterfall too...

I could go brick break, or maybe something else...

And won't this spread make it slower?

(BTW, you forgot to put HP on the end.)

No substitue there's no point to it.

It will, you could use your previous spread and change the moveset just take out Belly drum and give it a CB

Weavile1110101 November 24th, 2008 6:39 PM

I guess, but then it only gets x1.5 Atk rather than x4 Atk and x1.5 Speed.
If it is banded, I'll need to switch out that much more often and will need a spinner, or to test out my defog hypothesis.

What do you suggest then?

Cacttus November 24th, 2008 6:43 PM

I suggest if your not giving it Leftovers put Knock off if you are then give it rest.

Poliwrath Adamant
Water Absorb

Substitute/Hypnosis
Focus Punch/BB
Ice Punch/Waterfall
Hypnosis / BB/Rock Slide

Weavile1110101 November 24th, 2008 6:47 PM

Wait, which one? And what item for new new Poliwrath?

Cacttus November 24th, 2008 6:49 PM

Shuckle should have rest

If your set on using your Ev spread for Poliwrath then use that moveset.
