My first attempt at a competitive team

Special thanks to rivalwashere666 who helped me with my team. I got a lot good tips and help of him!

I've played pokemon since I was 8 or something, but I never really was into competitive playing. But since a few months ago I was seeing how great the battles could be if you assemble and train your team well. So a few weeks ago I started looking for the right pokemons and started assembling a team. With a lot help of rivalwashere666, I got a decent team. Now I think it's time to let it rate others, in hope that it gets even better. It's always better to let it rate by multiply people than just a few (or one), right?

anyway, my current team:

Spoiler:
[email protected] (lead)
Bold
252 HP/252 Def/6 SpAtt
~ Reflect
~ Grass Knot
~ Stealth Rock
~ Recover
Try to lay down a Stealth Rock as fast as possible at the start of the match. Recover to heal herself. Reflect to lower Physical attacks and Grass Knot to attack.

Bold
Intimidate
240 HP/168 Def/28 SpA/72 SpD
~ Will-O-Wisp
~ Hidden Power Ground
~ Flamethrower
~ Roar
Roar is to support the Stealth Rock of Celebi and thus damage the opponent little by little. Will-O-Wisp is to give the Burn Status to the opponent and damage them a little over time. Flamethrower is the main attack to use, Hidden Power Ground is for certain pokemons like Ground-Type pokemons.

Modest
252 HP/220 Def/36 SpA
~ Surf
~ Ice Beam
~ Rest
~ Sleep Talk
Surf and Ice Beam to attack the opponent. Rest to heal, and then use Sleep Talk while she's asleep. When she wake up continue attacking, or use Rest again if needed.

[email protected] Specs
252 SpAtt/ 252 SpD/6 Def
Modest
Stead Fast
~ Vacuum Wave
~ Aura Sphere
~ Shadow Ball
~ Hidden Power Ice/Hidden Power Rock/Dragon Pulse

I assume from her that she's right.

[email protected] Belt
Adamant
6 HP/252 Atk/252 SpD
~ ThunderPunch
~ Ice Punch
~ Cross Chop
~ Earthquake
Physical Sweeper, simply because this team lacked Physical Sweepers/moves. No real explanation needed, just the right moves for the right pokemon.

Calm
Natural Cure
252 Def/80 SpAtt/176 SpDef
~ Seismic Toss
~ Thunder Wave
~ Ice Beam
~ Softboiled
I don't need to explain this one, right?

Well? What do you think guys, any fixes or anything?

Dark Azelf November 25th, 2008 2:36 PM

I would change your celebi to this : -

[email protected]
252 HP / 252 DEF / 6 SP.ATT
Bold Nature
- Reflect
- Grass Knot
- Stealth Rock
- Recover

Helps with your Gyarados weak..Reflect >> U-Turn since its better for this team, still stops pursuit and supports the team.

Nothing really benefits from from calm mind passes here either..

I would put something like Specs Lucario >> Espeon, this helps your Tyranitar weakness too as nothing on this team can deal with DDTar or take CB Crunches and Stone Edge, specs Luke will let you nab it with Vacuum Wave. Which also gives you a priority move, something you lack currently.

[email protected] Specs
252 SP.ATT / 252 SPEED / 6 DEF
Modest Nature
Trait: Stead Fast
- Vacuum Wave
- Aura Sphere
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power Ice / Hidden Power Rock / Dragon Pulse

I would also go with something like DD mence or possibly SD Gliscor >> vire to give you a figting resist...

Anyway, that arcanine set is cool btw , i love the thing, ive been meaning to build a team around it since its really useful =D.

The Hero Without a Name November 25th, 2008 2:43 PM

Calm Bliss>>>>Bold Bliss. (Calm, 252 DEF/80 SPATK/176 SPDEF)

Ummm... You know you can only lay down one Stealth Rock (unless rapid spinned), right?

umm can you explain more of DDmence and SD Gliscor? if I recall it right, DDmence is a DragonDance Salamence right? but what's a SD Gliscor?

thanks, but the arcanine is actually taken from smogon. ^^'
but yeah, it's really useful, yes.

really? I thought a Calm Blissey is better than a Bold Blissey... but I could be wrong, I never was into competitive playing, like I said. >_>'

Really? I remember hearing from Gamefaqs that you can lay three Stealth Rocks...

Dark Azelf November 25th, 2008 3:14 PM

I know its from smog, but its still cool.

Correct, and SD Gliscor is a Swords Dance Gliscor.

whoops I meant to say that I thought that bold was better than calm, but it still seems it's Calm.
...we're talking about Diamond/Pearl and not about Platinum right? I only have Diamond and not Platinum, and I'm not really thinking of buying it (yes I'm aware of the move adds in Platinum). forgot to put that in the thread title.

whoops, then that's a small mistake of me!:embarrass

Archer November 25th, 2008 3:30 PM

Well I'd add either SD(SwordsDance)Gliscor and DDMence, as you have a pretty major Heracross weakness. DDMence is probably more useful as you have no real way of setting up for a sweep. I forget the set, but get the bulky DD set from Smogon.

The Wave November 25th, 2008 3:35 PM

and... with which pokemon do you suggest to replace with a DDmence?

Skip Shot November 25th, 2008 4:46 PM

I would exchange E-Vire for DDMence. IMO, physical E-vire is a load of yellow crap. DDMence really helps out this team. I don't know the bulky EV spread, but go with Dragon Dance/ Dragon Claw or Outrage/ Earthquake/ Fire Fang. keeps Heracross in check.
