Best Starter
Just wondering what do you guys think is the best starter for fire red/leaf green and/or ruby sapphire and emerald feel free to vote and state your opions!
|
Mudkip, without a doubt.
Fully evolved, it has only one weakness which it covers with Ice Beam. It's also very solid in DPP. You could also say that I liek them. |
No contest whatsoever. Mudkip is the best starter the Pokemon has ever produced. It has one of the best typing in the game, learns Ice Beam to cover its lone weakness, and has a terrific movepool that makes it a staple in competitive battling. Not only is it the best starter in the game, but also one of the best ever.
|
CHARMANDER FTW ! it rules ~AS |
I would say either a treecko or a torchic never really played with mudkip that much so I wouldn't know much about it
|
Mudkip.
Unlike the other two, when it evolves into it's second stage, it can take care of the first four Gym Leaders without a problem. ...And as someone previously stated, it being a Water/Ground allows it to 'avoid' the annoying Electric type attacks. And even though it has a 4x weakness to Grass, this can easily be covered with Ice Beam ^_^/ |
torchic, becuase torchic although is weak against the first gym leader, against the other gym leader torchic can help u beat them, if you evolve it to blaziken.
|
Charmander. Charizard is godly, to me.
|
Definitely Mudkip. Its Water/Ground type covers Electricity, but is extremely weak against Grass, which is covered by Ice Beam.
So I would say Mudkip. |
Mudkipz. Cuz i liek them. xDD
(Sorry, couldn't resist. I have a deep-seated dislike for Treecko and Torchic, and the Kanto starters are just okay for me. I always picked Mudkip because the kids I played with thought Blaziken was the coolest thing ever.) |
I'll have to say Charmander, because it's been one of my favorites for a long time. Plus, I love Charizard, even with it's battling weaknesses.
|
i choose squirtle because of blastoise defense
|
mudkip is the best, then I would choose treecko, then charmander! =]
|
Well, competitively, Mudkip is pretty much the winner. Water/ground is a very good type combination, definetely.
But when it comes down to sheer favoritism, it'd be Charmander for me. Charizard for the win. |
Mudkip (or rather, Swampert) is the best competitively, but my favourite of all of the starters is Torchic. Not sure why.
|
lol @ everyone mimicking my mudkip argument.
I voted for tha 'kip cos its da best. But my favourite is Blaziken. Even though it's too slow to counter it's poor typing, I like it. |
Treecko. Yeah, Mudkip is well rounded and all but look at all the water types available in Hoenn. There aren't as many fire and grass starters. Torchic is okay but...I've found it to be a major liablility against Team Aqua. Yeah the same could be said for Treecko with Team Magma but you can at least find a good water type to fix that problem.
As for the Kanto starters...it's harder to choose. I almost always choose Charmander but... |
yeah I'm currently finding out that mudkip is the best. My combusken is having trouble with may's marshtomp
|
Sure that Mudkip he's my favorite starter pokemon and he is the stronger one.And yes he has a weakness but you can easily resovle it with Ice Beam.
|
mudkipz cuz i liek dem
Nah, Torchic was always my favourite starter :3 |
I usually went for whatever starter did best against the respective leader. For FR, and LG I picked the starter that would give me the Legendary dog I needed for my Dex. And for Emerald I went for Torchic, I don't know why, I was guessing that he felt unloved.
|
Bulbasaur always was and forever will be my favorite out of the six. Now, out of ALL of the states, my favorite is Meganium. Plus, I HATE the Hoenn starters.
|
For competitive: Mudkip. (water-ground typing +ice beam = GG)
My personal favorites: Charmander and Bulbasaur Charmander because somehow ive always managed to use charizard, and cuz he looks like a dragon ;P. Somehow i just like bulbasaur |
What if swampert fights ludicolo? So long ice beam. =/
Torchic all the way. Having a blaziken is really useful against Team Aqua. Blaze kick for zubat family, double kick/sky uppercut for dark Pokémon. Pwned. A level 30 combusken has no trouble against Brendan. I also defeated all of Norman's trainers with double kick and I didn't lose a single HP. |
Out of all of them, my favourite would be Treecko. I love the way it looks and has some decent stats to go with it.
Mudkip is alright, but I find it boring to use. I've never been a fan of the water starters. |
Treecko...WOOT ^_^ Thats wats up! lmao
|
Chimchar is the way to go

Mudkip has Swampert, making him the best in competitive battles... in fact, given the dual-types of the others like Blaziken, which isn't nearly as good as the Water/Ground combo, Swampert just blows the others away (and that's just on types; we aren't even counting stats). My personal favorite though... eh, I'll throw Charmander the bone here. Why? I like Charizard, and I also like to give myself more of a challange when starting a new game in FR/LG... Bulbasaur and Squirtle (especially Bulbasaur) make it too easy. |
Torchic has awesome attacks. I also like it's last evolution, Blaziken. So Torchic is my choice.
|
Mudkip, because it is Water/ground and it's ever so cute!
My second chose is Squirtle, it's ever so cute, and i always pick him in LG/FR |
Charmander because charizard is stronger than both blastoise and venasaur and flying / fire means that it has very few weaknesses and is very efective at fighting plant + bug
|
Sorry, but being 4x weak to Rock and 2x weak to both Electric and Water, while that is only a few weaknesses, is horrible. Any good team is going to have all three of those attacks. While it has stronger Atk and SAtk base stats than Blastoise and Venusaur, its bad typing make it the weakest of the three.
|
Mudkip, although it is tight between it and Squirtle. Memes have killed its awesomeness though. ;__;
|
I think Torchic was awesome =D I like Pokémon that turn humanoid
|
I picked Torchic by 3 reasons:
1) It's Cute (i had no idea it evolved into Blaziken, and Blaziken is *strooong* 2) I got it in PMD, and i knew it ruled there =) 3) I always pick the Fire Starter! I hate Water Starters, i don't really like Water Pokémons at all... |
Mudkip is ahead by a landslide! Or would that be a MUDslide? heh
|
I tend to prefer the starter that has the best advantage against the champion for that game. So It changes. FR/LG, Either will do. R/S, Mudkip & E, Treecko.

Therefore rendering sceptile somewhat useless? I think swampert would be good against him, but it's your call. |
Mudkip. It's the only OU starter out of the choices, and its adorable tew. :>
|
Turtwig is the best starter by far.

Anyway I picked Torchic, just because Blaziken is pure pwnsome. EDIT: Quote:
Then surely a Fire/Fighting type is better... Im hinting at Blaziken if you didn't know already... |
Totally disagree. Swampert is a much better choice than Blaziken against Steven. First off, its use of Water, Ground, and Ice attacks make it just as offensive as Blaziken, but it is its MUCH better typing and MUCH better defenses that allow it to battle at a lower level than Blaziken.
On top of that, Swampert is one helluva competitive Pokemon too. Far superior than any other the other starters in the game. There is not a single other starter in the game (including DPP) that can compare. |
wha?!? No Totodile? ='( I love Totodile..
|
Mudkip, evolution of Mudkip (Swampert) is OU.
|
Bulbasaur is my sentimental favorite. The first one I ever used, though I first beat the game w/ Charmander.
|
Definitely Charmander. I've always been a little biased when it comes to fire pokemon, and Charizard is just awesome.
|
:\ Best would probably be Swampert, but my favourite is Sceptile. Maybe just the colour. :\
|
my favorite starters would probably be charmander or treeko but the best one is probably mudkip
