Which Would You Prefer For Websites? BBC or HTML?
If there was an option to do so, would you stick with BBC code or HTML?
If they had all the features I would prefer BBC, mainly because of its simplicity and it's easier to remember (if there's no pre-set codes to insert of course). What about you? |

What you should be asking, Xero, is whether people prefer CSS or HTML; but in either case I prefer HTML. |
One can not compare CSS and HTML for that purpose, Cassino. HTML is the page, whereas CSS describes how the page looks like. They do different things.
As for HTML and BBC, I'd prefer to stick with HTML, but there are some good things I like from BBC. Like the fact that, beause it is parsed using brackets for tags, it uses less visual space and looks more tidied when printed in non-monospaced, or otherwise non-design views. Otherwise they are exactly the same, with only the parser entry tags modified. |
I use HTML, but I need HTML to BBC convertor when I'm posting my guides

i profer html to bbc i dont really know why.... just sounds cooler

I prefer HTML but that's because I'm a web designer myself. For the most part, I'd say BBC is the way to go because 99% of your visitors are likely unfamiliar with HTML. While they are similar, HTML and BBC are two distinctly different things. Sure, BBC translates into HTML but the user does not need to know anything about HTML to use it.
Basically, I completely agree with you solovino. You are 100% correct with what you said about HTML and CSS and the logic behind your choice is sound. I would like to add one thing to your HTML/CSS explanation though. BBC is essentially the combination of HTML and CSS in one tag. A perfect example of this is a spoiler tag - you know, the one that makes the text color and background color of the enclosed text black. The HTML behind this is actually <span style="color: #000000; background-color: #000000;">Text Here</span> which is a direct combination of HTML and CSS. |

I prefer BB code since I'm a lazy person
|
I prefer HTML code becuase it's easier and it seems that people people use it.

Exactly Cassino. I'm sorry for my bad wording... :D
And you raise a quite valid and important point, Petie. BB Code, as well as any of these "forum code" languages, pretty much sits on top of HTML, CSS and, in some cases, PHP. They are intended more to provide an easier access to syntax than to ptovide syntax by themselves. Going along with my peception on BBC being "neatier when parsed", that makes BBC a very low barrier point that easies collaboration. Pretty much like the markup languages used by Wikipedia projects, excepto for the fact the syntax is much more mnemonic. And now that the new CSS3 and HTML5 are rising, with new embedding models for audio, video and canvas, and object-to-client query model, things can only become a little more complicated for developers, and slightly easier for users. |

Thanks for your follow up though. You put what I was thinking into words a lot better than I had planned to. |
