I'm looking for suggestions for my DP Battle Tower team. I've been using this team with some varying degrees of success and got to a streak of about 77 but I got killed by something using trick room and then a Jynx killed me with Focus Blast, psychic, and ice beam.

Gengar @ Life Orb
Timid +Spe, -Atk
6 hp/252 SpAtk/252 Spe

Hypnosis
Shadow Ball
Focus Blast
Thunderbolt

This is my lead. Love it cause it can OHKO or badly hurt most pokemon. Works great with heatran as they cover nearly all of each other's weaknesses. Thinking about dropping hypnosis for maybe destiny bond or something, I'm up for suggestions.

http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/7789/490lr7.png
Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Rash +SpAtk, -SpDef
6 hp/252 SpAtk/252 Spe

Flamethrower
Earth Power
Dragon Pulse
Explosion

Works great with Gengar, and covers Garchomp's ice weakness and resists dragon as well. Choice scarf lets it outspeed most pokemon. Explosion to get rid of a threat that I'm not cofident i could beat otherwise.

http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/2683/450ap0.png
Garchomp @ Yache Berry
Jolly +Spe, -SpAtk
6 hp/252 Atk/252 Spe

Swords Dance
Outrage
Earthquake
Fire Fang

Swords dance on Garchomp when I can and use earthquake/outrage, only use fire fang for those odd skarmories and bronzongs. Yache berry so that he can usually take an ice attack as well. Usually switch into him when I expect a t-wave or other electric attack.

I'm up for any suggestions for any other additions or changes I should make with these pokemon.

Archer January 28th, 2009 9:02 PM

@VanillaThunderbolt - Do yourself a favour and lead with Umbreon. You get Yawn support from the start, which is a necessity.

dark_seeker January 28th, 2009 10:38 PM

@lanz..put sash on gengar and replace hypnosis with destiny bond.give chomp sub ove fire fang as hiding behind status is more important.heatran looks good.overall a soldi team.

i was waiting for someone to say that lol.i mean i cant see it getting past palmer.

~Frozen Darkness~ February 1st, 2009 6:02 PM

what do you mean? Just because it's shiny and has perfect IVs doesn't mean it's hacked.

Yeah, it pretty much does =P

dark_seeker February 1st, 2009 11:30 PM

listen to yourself a flawless shiney?what are your chances with a perfect nature..

Archer February 4th, 2009 3:59 AM

Guys, this isn't a debate about hacks. I don't even see why they're a huge issue if the BT uses Perfect IVs.

Does anyone reckon CM Luke could run some Bulk effectively? Mence and it have great typing, but Lucario can't take hits.

Trying to make Lucario bulky is kind of like trying to make Heracross into a special sweeper...don't. IT can actually take even very powerful resisted hits if it runs max HP/max (s)def, but then you won't be able to hurt anything and it just isn't worth it. There are better bulky Calm Minders (Suicune being the best if you can get it, of course).

If you just want a bulky Steel-type attacker, then use Metagross or something to that effect. Calm Mind Lucario (regardless of its EV set) just isn't any...good.

randomspot555 February 9th, 2009 4:07 PM

Individual rate in bold, overall at end.

Oh, and my qualification/tips, copy/pasted from a psot I made over at the Serebii Forums

'll try to help. I've gotten up to 123 wins in Single battles, so I'll see if I can help you out. While you don't need EVERYTHING listed here, every little bit helps. Some thanks to Jumpman from Smogon and the Something Awful forums, who got 400+ wins in the BT:

Accuracy: There are many Double Team abusers. You'll want a Pokemon to carry Aerial Ace or Shadow Punch or Swift or something like that. If you can get it on a Pokemon that uses it well (STAB, Technician), great, if not, don't worry. Sure, you MIGHT hit them with your more powerful STAB attack, or you might get stalled to death.

Sturdy: OHKO absorber. During my best streak, I went without one. However, I got lucky.

Unfortunately, there aren't many to choose from in this area. Magnezone and Skarmory are your best bets.

Bulk: Pokemon that can carry some bulk and take a hit or two while being able to fight are a great asset. Sometimes you'll be able to do a ton of set up, so it's nice to have a Scizor who can take 3 ice beams while it sets up three swords dances.

Status: Find a way to absorb status, especially since the BT will start using status that is bad for your starter to have. Start with someone who's electric weak? Have a ground backup. Tyranitar? Bring out Starmie or Vaporeon.

Or just get someone who uses Natural Cure or RestTalk.

Cover your weaknesses: On my winning team, every single SE hit on one Pokemon was either resisted or immune on at least one team mate. I had Garchomp, Starmie, and Scizor.

It's a fine lead, and it's weaknesses are covered by Heatrans. Destiny Bond can be replaced over Focus Blast or Hypnosis. It'll net you a kill against Tyranitar who'll otherwise OHKO you. The only problem is Weavile who usually carries Brick Break.

Regardless of what set you go with, Energy Ball is a move to consider. I tend to encounter a lot of Water/Ground types.

Standard, nothing wrong, covers team-mate's weaknesses.

http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/2683/450ap0.png
Garchomp @ Yache Berry
Jolly +Spe, -SpAtk
6 hp/252 Atk/252 Spe

Swords Dance
Outrage
Earthquake
Fire Fang

Forget the set up. With Chomp's unique speed tier, just Band it. It'll outrun so much in the first 60 or so battles, and later you can switch it over to Scarf when you get into more glass cannon situations.

Aerial Ace can go into SD's slot, as you need something to hit with accuracy. Dragon+Fire+Ground nets perfect coverage, and you'll need Fire Fang for the Scizor and Abomosnow's that pop up every now and then.

Problems with the team:

No way to reliably abosrb or abuse status. Toxic is covered, as is Thunder Wave paralysis, but sleep could screw you over, and the coverage you do have is situational. It's better to have a guranteed status absorber. Natural Cure, RestTalk, or Sub sets can all work wonders.

Not a lot of bulk. Chomp has natural bulk, and Heatran carries some resistancies, but I like to put some EVs into defensive stats in the BT as it gives my Pokes a chance to set up.

But this team is a good start.

I don't like yawn. The AI aren't that intelligent, and they won't switch out, which is Yawn's main purpose. They'll just stay in and kick your ass (shortly before sleeping). Otherwise fine.

Porygon-Z w/ Focus Sash (Shiny)
Ability: Download
Nature: Modest
EVs: 255 Sp. Attack 255 Spd.
IVs: Perfect
Moves:
Nasty Plot
Ice Beam
Dark Pulse

It's good, but getting in an NP would prove difficult against the AI, who won't switch out often. PZ's lack of bulk also plays a role here. Maybe P2 would be more suitable for this role.

Latios w/ Soul Dew (Shiny)
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Modest
EVs: 255 Sp. Attack 255 Spd.
IVs: Perfect
Moves:
Dragon Pulse
Draco Meteor
Psychic
Recover
Get rid of Draco Meteor. It might sound pretty cool to absolutely smash someone once, but the last thing you need is -2 SpAtk. Noone else on this team is buky enough to switch into something and to switch back, though Kingdra has good typing. Your options over DM are Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Energy Ball and Surf.
Luster Purge over Psychic because that SpcDef drop is much more useful than a bit of extra oomph.

Because no one will rate your team without complaining about hacks, I'll rate it for you.
Another thing. Just because you can't get flawless shinys, doesn't mean that it's wrong for BT. Online, things'd be different.

Anyway, comments in bold.

I thought i would take a break from doubles and try a single streak and
Just Beat my old singles record of 123 and got to 141 :),With the following team :

Garchomp @ Lum berry**Game Shrak

~Outrage
~Earthquake
~Sword Dance
~Substitute

Sorry arch,Just had to steal the awsome nick :P
About chomp:"words"

Scizor @ leftovers**Sniper
adamant
Tecnition
72hp/252att/184spd
~Sword Dance
~Quick attack
~Brick Break
~Night slash

My lack of platinum really hurts. As sooon as it come out im going to change it :)

How I lost:
Dark sent out beachy
AI send out hitmonlee.

Im certain it is gonna CC so i go for yawn.

hitmonlee used close combat
A critical hit.
Beachy held on with sash(or some such)
Beachy used yawn

OK so im right i decide to let beachy die so chomp can get a free switch.

Hitmonlee used blaze kick
The attack missed
Beachy used charm.

Ok that was freakin gay.no free switch on a sleeping poke for me.so i decide to charm once more.

Hitmonlee is fast asleep.Zzzz
Beachy used charm.

Maybe i can get in a few flashes and hope he misses is my next thought.

Hitmonlee Woke up.
Hitmonlee used blaze kick.
Beahy fainted.

Gay

Go GAME SHRAK
Ok so this is where the mistakes start.

Garchomp used SD.
Hitmonlee used close combat.
garchomp lost around 23%

Frankly i just wanted to see if i could keep a sub up without wasting a turn and I could so yeah.

Game shark used earthquake.
Hitmonlee held on using focus sash
hitmonlee used CC.
CTITICAL HIT.
Game shark fainted.

TBH i knew it held a sash from my experience with the tower as the sash one has blaze kick so i wanted it to sash then sub then kill it.So i take minimal DMG.looks like i wasn't haxed but lost due to stupid play.the rest is self -explnatory as scizor quick attacks it and is up against a straptor at -1.

I think this team can get past 200 but am to lazy to give it another shot.ill wait till i get platinum and then get scizor with BP and superpower along with sub.

Ironic isn't it, The AI gets haxed and i lose :(

BeachBoy February 22nd, 2009 6:00 PM

You could have also done this with Chomp...

Set up substitute to scout for damage (or hell, put it into a damage calc and see what he really has on ya) If it breaks your sub by crit or whatever, you attack immediately and hope it doesn't crit you back, or set up sub again. If it doesn't crit and you decide to attack, you're there against a 1HP Hitmonlee and you're faster.

Let's say your sub survives...

Set up Swords while it breaks sub. (75%) You keep toying around until you feel comfortable. You can attack and get it 1HP and take damage, or set up another substitute.

And we know Staraptor would be a breeze with Chomp and Scizor in shape.

EDIT: yeah, we need to jumpstart this thread. Hopefully, I'll be back to battle tower stuff soon. First I've got to get my hands on a Togekiss I've been wanting to try for a while now.

YEahyeah your finally back..I thought you had gone for good..WELCOME BACK.
I know i shoulda scouted with a sub and i realize my mistake i dont know what i was thinking i guess i wanted to take minimal dmg and i hadn't had a close battle in 141 battles or been haxed at all so i might have been slightly over confident.looks like you should never underestimate the BT.
If your planning to put up double records just let me know and ill post the team i got to 72 wins with :p
plan to do another run with my doubles team hopefully passing hundread.

BeachBoy February 23rd, 2009 12:29 PM

Well, I'm going to lock this. A new, revised and maybe even a lil' more helpful will be coming soon. And I always kinda disliked how it was a Smogon-carbon-copy anyway, even though they really did hit it on the nail. XD So yeah, time to mix things up. If you don't see the new thread within a few days, feel more than free (heck, feel obligated) to come yell at me on my profile.

Hoping that with an updated version we can spark more participation as well.

Locked.
