Opera Zooming
Possibly other browsers too, but I don't feel like trying them right now.
Whenever I zoom in on, lets say a sprite, as that's when it's most useful, it either shows one of two ways. Either it will show the pixels that make up the image, or it will blur the image an attempt to make up for the size difference. I can see no specific pattern as to what blurs and what doesn't. I don't recall if I've seen anything with transparency blur, but that doesn't apply in most cases. Here's what I get when I zoomed in my sprite thread: http://img360.imageshack.us/img360/3299/12092008094431su3.png For comparison: http://i38.*.com/vhw0ah.gif http://www.pokecommunity.com/customavatars/avatar22567_34.gif Both of these were saved from Photoshop CS3, with the exact same settings. I don't see any reason as to why it does this. Anyone have any ideas? |
On images with alpha channel (commonly called transparency; my avatar and your sprites for examples), Opera zooms using nearest neighbour interpolation.
On images without alpha channel, Opera likely uses linear interpolation. I'd assume it's just easier for the programmers, or not possible/overly difficult to make a program that can resize an image in a cache various times without distorting it... or something. Oh and I use Opera too, if you're wondering. |
