Gen 2 Graphics Compared To All Others

hey guys
would anyone here agree with me by sayin they perfered GSC Graphics(Pokemon Sprites not an OW ones)
but yeah ive seen some people like KageX Devamp Pokemon and they look so much better in GSC Graphics i reckon

Legobricks December 22nd, 2008 2:36 PM

Something about being restricted to a sixteen or so colour palette gives the games some sort of charm... especially at night (game time). I especially like how the grass is in the early games, as some kind of large mass rather than as perfectly aligned clumps.
I think that's how Pokemon is better off — simple; gameplay-wise too, being without natures.

747Jason747 December 22nd, 2008 2:48 PM

Most Pokemon look beter in GSC then in the new Games in my opinion anyway.

Johto and GSC still Remain my Favorite.:)

Bibliophibian December 22nd, 2008 2:56 PM

I completely love the GSC graphics.
It might just be nostalgia, but I prefer it hands down over both 3rd and 4th gen graphics.

~Rose-quartz Iatos December 24th, 2008 5:42 PM

Yes. There was just something about tehm taht was lost in later games...

SkyPioneer December 24th, 2008 9:52 PM

Worst poll ever >_>
Why would you prefer 16 bit over 32?

Hejlug December 24th, 2008 10:33 PM

Dunno, but i like GSC more too.
Anyway,Crystal had animated sprites,in RS(not Emerald) they didnt. There was day/night change that gave the game more 'realism'.They removed that also. The graphics were better in RS,but for some reason i see less artistism.Maybe its just me.

Hadim Sinan Pasha December 25th, 2008 12:15 AM

Obviously it's gotta be R/B/Y >>> All other gens. xD. jks. D/P/P graphics are the best, and they will be until the 5th gen. 32 bits is better, grass in a line looks more organized plus the grass has more detail and the game doesn't look mutilated, the pokemon aren' made with black borders and hollow insides (Lugia anyone?). Why would you want Black and Beige over millions of different colours? IMO the better graphics were in the better games. Say all you want but D/P/P opened up anew era in Pokemon. Anyways, yeah, the Pokemon in GSC are good but the graphics, errrrr, I don't even want to start going on about the graphics a second time.

LethalTexture December 25th, 2008 12:39 AM

I would agree in part that the Gen II graphics were something special; it really hit you how much better they were than Gen I. That's probably why they felt so good.

Hejlug December 25th, 2008 1:13 AM

I dont know. All i know that the creator was really talented:making such a beautiful world with such a limited hardware.Thats a special skill.

Yes yes yes! I love the original artwork. It looked more realistic, well, as close as Pokemon can get that is, than newer gen art.

I agree. Pokemon was supposed to be a cute, simple game. Adding natures and stuff just seems superfluous. That's just me, though. I really liked the graphics. Whether I prefer them over all the others, well, I'm not sure. I do however love the animations.

Are you generalising based on the opinions of five or six users? Because that's plain stupid, and invalidates your conclusion. >> (Not to mention that another user - SkyPioneer - supported ~Celebi~'s stance.)

I prefer DPPt graphics too because of the lesser limitations on the DS' graphical system. In terms of graphics being better relative to the preceding generation, however, I agree that GSC made a bigger jump from RBY.

mad.array December 29th, 2008 4:41 AM

While I still love and play Crystal, I'm torn about which graphics I prefer. When I was younger I always wanted a Pikachu that looked like the ones in the anime, but since I've got that I've got to admit that some of the other Pokémon look worse off. I am thinking of one in particular. The GSC Rattata was one of my favourite sprites in the game. I always had a Raticate in my team (despite preferring Rattatas looks) and to see it in GSC was fantastic, as it seemed to have a unique charm. As it turns out, that charm was unique as in every generation since the Rattata has looked damned horrible. I was expecting great things from the Gen IV Rattata and I was sorely disappointed.

To make a small point though, to all of the people who say that it's all about the technology and the color depth, perhaps it should be put another way: would you prefer revamps of the GSC sprites to the Gen III/IV ones? I once saw a selection of GSC revamped sprites and I think they could have humbled a few of Nintendos GBA spriters. It's not all about graphics but about style, as the classic 'Another World' proves time and time again =)

(Apologies for the sheer amout of opinion in that post, I normally try to cap it at 10%)

JonnyPhoenyx December 29th, 2008 9:56 AM

I'm torn between the two really. I loved the GSC games because they were so much better than the 1st gen. (I'm currently replaying them) Although, the following generations were nice to look at, much friendlier on the eyes so to speak. But, the games lacked the newness and depth of the GSC games. (Breeding and longer gameplay - Johto AND Kanto) I like pokes from all gens, but I would have to say GSC is my favorite game for nostalgic reasons.

Skaterzpenguin December 29th, 2008 10:16 AM

I agree, I like the style of the sprites in the 2nd gen. I prefer crystal because it has good movements for the sprites and they almost seem better than emerald movements. lol idk call me weird if ya want... xD

h POKE December 29th, 2008 12:35 PM

You see, I am very much a fan of the second gen if only for the fact that it sparked the imagination. It may seem preachy, but your imagination creates the best picture, and there is almost a threshold between graphics that are simple enough to cause our imaginations to fill in the rest, and graphics which leave nothing to be questioned.
However, I must admit that some of the backsprites in Gold were just garbage *cough Magmar cough*

Squire202 December 29th, 2008 3:49 PM

I love the graphics, but I of course like some of teh other ones in later games.

Dusclord December 30th, 2008 3:41 AM

The graphics really fit to the GBC musics, il just love the Rage Lake.

Anyway it's normal to be attached to the first game you played...

I'm srry but I have to say that the 4th gen has the best graphics that any of the older games...having more details, color, and a 3D effect...it's just better IMO.

G/S/C were released while GBC's last years, then the graphics were optimised for the console :]
