The last decade? ,_, I don't think the world's vocabulary has changed at all in the last ten years. People were just as stupid in 1999 as people are now.

True Reign June 26th, 2009 9:26 AM

Well we aren't stupid.

We just learned shorter versions of the old words.

Ryuzaki_Lawliet June 26th, 2009 10:04 AM

Rawr. We are not stupid. We are very smart because we came up with chat terms! =3

LOL (chat term), I agree with what you said.

Ryuzaki_Lawliet June 26th, 2009 10:23 AM

Heh. Chat terms ftw. Anyway... ... ... my firered is giving me fits cuz I can't beat Misty!!

Cherrim June 26th, 2009 10:27 AM

I don't think chat terms necessarily means this generation is any smarter or dumber than the ones before it...

...but the fact that people actually use short forms (ie, 2day, u, etc.) in essays means this generation can be pretty stupid sometimes. <_<

I had to grade an essay in my last school year. It went something like this:

"ten won dae, i went 2 da store"

I gave them a D because they had a theme going on according to my teacher...

Cherrim June 26th, 2009 10:36 AM

lol I would fail an essay like that. @[email protected];; I've only ever peer-marked one essay where someone used those and they claimed they only did because it wasn't their final copy so it was faster to type up that way. I still circled everything. XD;

Lol.

I would have failed them, but they complained to my teacher, so my teacher gave them a D when they explained that they were still talking about the theme.

Language has little if anything to do with global stupidity.

LOL. See that's why I dislike non-logic-based subjects. :| You can BS almost anything and still get the same mark as someone who legitimately tries their best depending on how you say it and what the opinions of your teacher/prof are.

And that is why high school should be better. Especially since I'm in the highest level of English you could take as a ninth grader.

Netto Azure June 26th, 2009 11:25 AM

I'm taking AP English in the 11th Grade. I hope it will re instill proper grammar into me. The Internet is bad like that. XP

Spinor June 26th, 2009 11:33 AM

Wow, I wish I had AP English. I heard it was easier than normal English.

Depends on the school/teacher, I'd say. :[

Yep. I heard from my friend that at my high school, the English teacher is really really nice. However, another English teacher at the same school is incredibly hard.

I hope for the nicer teacher...

My first high school in Florida (lasted a week before transferring to Virtual School) was absolutely incredible, nice to boot. After transferring back into the public school system a year and a half later to a different school, I got one of the rather strict teachers.

If you do happen to get the bad apple, get on their good side early. D:

.little monster June 26th, 2009 12:02 PM

In 9th grade there was CP and General Physical science. I had general because I just moved and they put me in random classes. Well, general was apparently a lot harder than CP just because my teacher was a complete retard and lost everyone's work. Then, knowing he lost it, gives you a 0 and said you cant make it up because he lost it. -_-

Ah high school. I remember those days... *reminisces for a few moments* Meh, life is so much better without school.

Squeegee Beckenheim June 26th, 2009 12:05 PM

Life is better since high school; I don't want college to end right now though.

Kazukii June 26th, 2009 12:05 PM

The nice teachers aren't always the best ones because they don't scare you enough to push you hard enough but I can understand why people want nice teachers :) My english teacher likes me ahah.

Squeegee Beckenheim June 26th, 2009 12:08 PM

I prefer the nice teachers because they are approachable.

Kazukii June 26th, 2009 12:11 PM

Yeah I can agree with that. My class has this really horrible maths teacher every wednesday & we all hate her because she's so strict & we all feel scared to ask her anything in case she flips :S

Squeegee Beckenheim June 26th, 2009 12:16 PM

Since going to uni, I haven't had an unapproachable teacher, and at this point, don't expect to. I actually am good friends with my theatre professors and my history professor that I have had a class with so far.

幕之内 一歩 June 26th, 2009 12:16 PM

I always preferred the good looking teachers. Always learned better when I had something good to look at. ;)
