The [NEWER] Graphics School

INTRODUCTION
So I see you have stepped through the doors of the Newer Graphics School! I have permission from Allelujah Haptism although she won't be participating in the school so any questions should be addressed straight to noxious. until we get some teachers in here, then you can ask your teacher.
The purpose of the school is to help improve the quality of graphics of member, by the members here at Pokecommunity! You will be able to learn more about a particular graphics program or learn to make the graphics themselves.

TEACHERS
The school will be taught by a volunteer basis. So, anyone wishing to be a teacher fills out an application and posts it here and gets it to noxious. via PM.
WARNING: Being a teacher is tough stuff. You need to be good with both the program you use and at making graphics themselves. Not to mention you have a class of students who will be relying on you to help them and guide them along the way to Graphics Stardom.

Here is the form for teacher applications:

Teacher Form:

Program: (What program you use, Photoshop or GIMP will be the main ones used here as we have many members in those categories.
Specialization: (Are you good at smudging, photomanip, all of the above?)
Preference: (Which class do you want to teach?)
Example of Work: (So that I can choose which teacher best fits each level of competence. We can't have a beginner teaching the top level.. Also to see if I think you have what it takes to be a teacher)

STUDENTS
If you want to apply to a class, simply fill out this form below:

Program:
(What program you use, Photoshop or GIMP will be the main ones used here as we have many members in those categories.)
Example of Work: (I need to see your examples so I know if you should be in a class so you can cope. Again, we don't want any beginners in an advanced class because you would struggle and may not learn. Just post your best graphics here.
NB If you have no experience or graphics to post, just state that and you can be placed in the Beginner Class of your designated Program)

NB: Students are able to take more than one class. Students are also allowed to transfer from a class if they aren't coping or want a change. To change, simply fill out another form and state in your post which class you are moving from and signing up for.

HOMEROOM
NB: Each homeroom can be made when a teacher has signed up for a class and has at least 3 students or I put a notice on the class saying "Open for Business"

How to make your very own homeroom! ------- You cant do this until your class says "OPEN FOR BUSINESS"

1) Go to the Graphics, and Photography forum, and create a new thread.
2) Name it anything you like, just as long it is very apparent it is your homeroom (graphics school class: for example - Graphics School {
Uryū Ishida's Homeroom})
3) This is the most important part, you must have a layout for your class, so it is easy to follow what is for homework (yes teachers will assign homework). There should be at least three sections.

- An intro. (tell your students about your style, what you like to do with your program. And most of all, what you are going to cover in your class)

- Students list. (just list your students. Also add some contact info, so that new students can join the fun!

- An Assignments list ( have a list of all of the current, and past assignments. Try and be very, very, VERY descriptive with what you want them to do. So there is no "AHH WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO!?!?!?!" You can try and link tutorials for some of your lessons also. ------------- Remember not to delete the old Assignments so people who start late can pick up.

FINAL NOTICE
When you fill in an application either for student OR teacher, post it here in the thread AND PM it to noxious. This ensures that I will get your application and that I can update the lists.

This is a good idea but how does one teach there student, send them tutorials or over an Instant messaging client?
Seems very long I am way too lazy for this and proud!

moments. January 2nd, 2009 4:20 PM

The teacher starts a homeroom and posts an assignment or a task that they want each and every student to complete. Then the students do it and post their results in the homeroom for the teacher to rate and critique.

Gummy January 2nd, 2009 4:39 PM

Yay, the school is back! I think the premise is great, but you'll need very dedicated teachers to make this work. Anyways, I'll be signing up:

Program: Adobe Photoshop CS3
Example of Work: #1, #2, #3, #4

I'm pretty familiar with the program itself, so I'm going for Design Class.

TwilightBlade January 2nd, 2009 4:49 PM

How often would these assignments be? I hope it's nothing too stressful. o3o

I've been stalking this forum for a while now and I wish I could hone my Photoshop skills.. May I sign up?

Program: Adobe Photoshop CS2
Example of Work: From oldest to newest 1 2 3 4 5

I think I'm fine on photomanip. I'm familiar with most of the tools, as I've had the program since '06. I would like help in using c4ds, clipping masks, adding depth/flow/lighting, anything else more advanced as my work seems plain. I hardly ever look at tutorials; I mostly experiment.

Design Class seems fitting..

moments. January 2nd, 2009 5:03 PM

You have both been added to the design class.
Everyone also note the "Signature Making Classes". The are handy for people just interested in learning how to make tags or banners.

Kalseng January 2nd, 2009 5:07 PM

Well, I don't know what to sign up for. I have a basic feel for GIMP, and I feel like I could get into Designing... Maybe I'll do that.

Program: GIMP please.
Example of Work: Well, I have a few. I'm just gonna put links, I suppose.
Ifrit clicky. Epoch Clicky. Optiimus clicky.

Yeah. Well, here's the post. Now time to PM you the resume/application thing.

moments. January 2nd, 2009 5:10 PM

Ok Kalseng will be added to the GIMP Design class now. Don't worry about the PM if you are reading this, I got your request and you shall be added now.

Kalseng January 2nd, 2009 5:13 PM

[Insert stream of crazy babble here]

If only my dimensional powers weren't limited to dimensions! If only I had time! But alas, I don't, so yeah.

Anyway, I'm glad that I'm signed up, and even more so that I'll be able to improve.

\o/

moments. January 2nd, 2009 5:15 PM

Well you will improve as soon as some teachers make some applications come my way! ;)
Oh and can I just say, there are some GIMP users here but not all too many, so it might come to the case where classes will be merged or the classes will be categorized differently so we can actually have a class running as there aren't many GIMP people who I know who would sign up as a teacher.
But we will see how we go!

Ezzo! January 2nd, 2009 5:24 PM

Program:
Photoshop CS4
Example of Work: Yeah, I dunno. Maybe intermediate? Still have a lot to learn. (b'-')b
1 2 3 4 5 6

Kalseng January 2nd, 2009 5:25 PM

...

Less than yay...

Well, if worse comes to worst, I'll be happy to grab one of my GIMP-savvy buddies and he can come on over and teach. I mean, how bad can it get?

moments. January 2nd, 2009 5:39 PM

Ezzo, I will add you into the Intermediate Signature making class but if you are struggling you can move down. I just think that depending on the people who join, the standard could be a little higher than your ability I'm afraid to say..
But for the time being, you are an Intermediate student!

Ezzo! January 2nd, 2009 5:46 PM

Hmm...just put me in beginner.
And if I can excel in that, then I'll move on to intermediate, I don't want to rush this.

moments. January 2nd, 2009 5:52 PM

Sure thing shall move you and SlytherFang, you will be placed in Design/Program class for Photoshop.

Yrie January 2nd, 2009 5:52 PM

Program: Photoshop 7.0
Example of Work: Most of these are desktop backgrounds though, and are not placed in any specific order.
1 2 3

http://i530.photobucket.com/albums/dd341/Tr0ubl3magn3t/Hogwartscopy.jpg

I'm quite familiar with the program, though not completely, so I think I'll go with Design/Program class.

Renyui! January 2nd, 2009 6:49 PM

I'll teach.

Program: Photoshop CS3
Specialization: Ranged.
Preference: Signature Making Class 2: Intermediate
Example of Work: http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=149249

Sign me up, Kugs.

Zebra Thunderhead January 2nd, 2009 7:11 PM

Teacher prz

Program: Photoshop CS2
Specialization: Ranged
Preference: Design Class
Example of Work: 1 2 3 4 5 6

I think that's enough examples for now.

moments. January 2nd, 2009 8:37 PM

Color Me Evil and Vivaa are added as teachers for Design and Signature Making Intermediate level.
Please note: Students are allowed to sign up for multiple classes but teachers can only teach one class.

I am going to join up for Signature Making Intermediate and Design Class Photoshop.

Zebra Thunderhead January 2nd, 2009 8:43 PM

Aw man, I don't get hard? ):

moments. January 2nd, 2009 8:46 PM

You asked to be signed up the Design Class. Would you like to be moved to Signature Making Advanced?

Zebra Thunderhead January 2nd, 2009 8:47 PM

Quote:

So here are the 3 different classes available:

1. Program Class: The teacher in this class teaches you the basics on how to use a particular program.

2. Design Class: The teacher in this class helps students with developing their own graphics making style, this is a little bit more artsie.

3. Design/Program Class: Its pretty much learning the program and design at the same time.
I didn't know there was such a thing.

moments. January 2nd, 2009 8:52 PM

Ooh yeah but then later in the class lists there are the other ones...
Ok guys, I recycled some of the stuff from the previous school so I am going to make some edits. I am going to remove the 3 classes listed in CME's post as they were not really used very well last time and are just confusing and also I think all the people here just want tags and banners taught to them.
So, all the people in the Design classes, sorry for the inconvenience, but I am going to move you to a Signature Making Class based on the examples you gave me.
If you don't want to be in the Signature Class, send me a PM or just post here and I will tidy it up.
SORRY EVERYONE!
Also CME, you are the Signature Making Advanced Teacher.

EDIT: I have rearranged the classes accordingly. If when the classes start you feel it is too difficult or too easy, simply request to move up a class.

Renyui! January 2nd, 2009 8:57 PM

I'll join CME's class.
Program: PSCS3
Examples: These.

moments. January 2nd, 2009 9:02 PM

Vivaa will be added to CME's Signature Making Advanced class now.
Also, I will take the role of beginner teacher for Photoshop.
