Ideas - Any Interest?
Alright. I want to write a decent pokemon fanfic, but the problem is I don't know if my idea is workable, or if not, what else I could write. So I figured I'd see what you all thought of this -very- basic plot.
Original Trainer Story(oh noz!). I've always wanted to write a story about a pokemon trainer just going on a journey with pokemon, but reading around I know it's very common and very commonly done poorly. In my story, the trainer would begin her journey with a Taillow, the son of two of her mother's champion contest Swellow. There would be no evil team, but instead the plot focuses on her rivalry and partnership with her lifelong friend, who began his journey with a Poochyena(coincidentally from his mother's line of contest Mightyena), and their quest to defeat the pokemon league. I don't know if that's a deep enough plot, though, so I may have to think of more to put in it if I decide to do this. |

♥♥ ♥♥♥ ...Okay, seriously, first off, while obtaining starters that are the children of a parent's isn't exactly the most original thing ever, the concept of ditching the whole "Chosen One"/"must defeat evil team" for the entire core and point to Pokemon training is. It's a shame to say it, but yeah, going after this kind of story might actually be refreshing. Providing, of course, you make it past the first few chapters and give yourself enough time to thoroughly debunk the usual expectations for a NT story and can keep it interesting thereafter. What I mean by that is in the first chapters, almost every story begins with the trainer being an ordinary kid. It's not until several chapters in that they start to grow the roots of the "omg NT is hero of teh day" plot. Just saying that you'll probably find it harder in the beginning when your readers might expect that kind of plot, but if you can make it past those early chapters, you should be fine. And seriously, I really hope you don't have a penchant for abandoning plots. Too many people do that. ;_; On top of that, yeah, you may want to keep in mind that you're writing about a fairly ordinary journey. I highly encourage you to do it, but play around with ideas and see if you can keep yourself entertained -- because if you can keep doing that, your readers will be able to tell and will be more interested in what you have to say. In other words, I say it's a good bare-bones concept, and I highly recommend you go through with it. |
Thanks for the feedback. I'm starting it now and just need to figure out how to keep myself interested in it, because I do have a tendency to get bored of my stories. Hopefully I'll come up with something, though. I've plotted out the whole thing and come up with the characters and just need to start writing. =)

I think that almost any plot would be interesting as long as the author knows how to write it. Your story sounds very interesting and I think you should go for it and write it.
