The rival in DP

Does he sometimes drive u crazy always thudding? I only sometimes wish he would get as strong as he always says he would...also I wish he was more like...well the ??? dude in G/S/C don't u guys think? I mean sometimes Barry is fun and all but when it comes to battling him it is easy as eating a gummy worm...don't u guys think they should've made him more like the dude in G/S/C?

Tinhead Bruce January 16th, 2009 9:51 PM

I agree. "Unnamed guy-girl" may have been weird, but at least he/she was a challange. Since Pokemon has gotten more focused on pleasing younger kids, everything has been made easy. A good game should be challenging but fun at the same time. In my opinion, Pokemon needs to start doing a better job at this. I also think that Game Freak/Nintendo/Pokemon should solidify the main elements of the Pokemon games before adding a bundle of new components that only confuse people.

Gyardosamped January 16th, 2009 11:29 PM

I must agree that the rival in the older games were more challenging then the new ones.

Volknerz January 16th, 2009 11:42 PM

YUp i agree or it would be more interesting if our rival was Ash kinda like at the end of the game in R/G/B and yellow

Pikachu™ January 17th, 2009 1:38 AM

like what J£¡zåя∂27 said, nintendo is more focused on the kids in general than the diffculty of the game, they have lost all the old fans due to the new games.

Yes and maybe they should make age groups? LOL! jk...but anyways if they at least would make the rival challenging enough how is that a disgrace to little children? ':D

If it's hard for them that's ok they just learn to train more get stronger etc. :D

A majority of Pokemon's fanbase comes from the people obsessed over the anime, manga, movies and competetive battling (cards are for 8 year olds). The actual game (ie, all the way up to beating the elite four) is seen as a minor perk, but nothing intensely fun. Alot of people who are unaware of competetive battling never touch their game again after they beat the E4 anyway.
So yeah.
You might not like the rival getting easier, but it still won't stop you from buying the game.
'nuff said.

Zelda January 17th, 2009 9:10 PM

Nuff said? Ur kind of right...but also don't forget the fact that Nintendo needs to also try to make it interesting for the older age people that like pokemon....or else if they bore them then only little kids would buy it and they'd make LESS money...':D

Yeah, Nintendo Doesnt care about making a game hard; they just like the audience. And the thudding gets on my nerves because it wastes a full 4 seconds

Yeah...BUT Nintendo should be able to understand to make the game just a tad bit harder becuase if they only make money off of little children when they grow up they might grow out of it from it being easy....':D

Misheard Whisper January 18th, 2009 8:13 PM

THUD! Grr, that's annoying.

Not always so, bud. I'm older than the "little kids" but younger than the "old skool" fanbase. I get great satisfaction from beating the game, I keep playing after the E4 and I don't comp battle. I like the anime, sure, but I'm not fanatical like some people are.

Yes, they should make the rival tougher. Epsilon (my rival) is the wimpiest opponent yet. Then again, Wally kinda sucked. But Wally was still awesome, with his asthma and pathetic determination. 8D

Zelda January 19th, 2009 10:02 AM

And the rival in G/S/C compared to D/P...it might not be cuz of little children...look how mean the one in G/S/C is pushing u off stealing pokemon etc.

Honest January 19th, 2009 12:13 PM

I dont know. i love it when Barry says in the beginnning of the game "U ow me 100 million bucks" That cracked me up, but yah, he is easy. in Platiunum, he's gonna be much herder, PKMN in the Lv. 80's
It would be nice to bring ???? back.

Raven-NAR-32450 January 19th, 2009 6:47 PM

i liked the old school generation 1/2 games, those made you THINK, you had to think more about what to do, where to go, what button to push etc. Nowadays everything is laid out right in plain sight, the game basically has a walkthrough built right into it now. they should have made it harder, so that the little kids laying 30-40 bucks for this game have more to think about so they don't beat it in 25 hours.

Artemis January 19th, 2009 9:08 PM

I know that nintendo is aiming for an easy level for little kids, but there are tons of other games nintendo has made for little kids that are WAY more harder...so I do not see that as a good excuse...and I actually enjoyed Barry in the game, he was funny and always looking on the bright side of things...but I agree I just wish he was a bit tougher...same with the Elite in some way and the Gyms too...

♣Gawain♣ January 19th, 2009 10:08 PM

Barry's probably a joke, not only because of his somewhat not so good team, but of his joking around.

Haza January 19th, 2009 11:03 PM

No. I prefer the different personalities and enjoyed watching my mom react to his rudeness. I love his dance too.

evilishan January 19th, 2009 11:52 PM

The Rival in D/P is certainly a very eccentric one if not completely off his bonkers.

Ooka January 20th, 2009 5:32 AM

I think it's good that they finally have a non-selfish player, instead of the general evil one. (Besides May obviously)

Although don't get me wrong, the rival from G/S/C was freakin shweet.

Gunners January 20th, 2009 9:41 AM

Ash's one is named gunners lol (Ash from the forum not anime thingy guy) lol but not after me :(

Yeah he is a bit weak.

DarknessSneasel January 21st, 2009 1:40 PM

He was weak and the battle with the 2 glatic commanders at Spear Pillar hemade the battle drag on and on. Plus the starly to ages to evolve

Gulpin January 21st, 2009 2:03 PM

I agree. After the first time, I was like, "Gosh, just let me through, dumbass!"

I totally agree with that.
