Sound or No Sound

Can you stand being in a room all by yourself in complete silence??? I know I can't...I would have to play some kind of music or something...

u?

wolf January 16th, 2009 9:54 PM

Silence is good I think, gives me a rest from all the noise from today. Lowers the chance of getting a headache! rofl

ErickaVolt January 16th, 2009 9:57 PM

Both. I want to listen music when I'm bored. And I want complete silence when I want to sleep.

s0nido January 16th, 2009 11:30 PM

I can stay in a room with complete silence with ease in any situation. Even if I don't have a DS, laptop or anything to play with. I can memorise songs and play them in my head.

>Feelings< January 16th, 2009 11:30 PM

Surely I can.
In fact, that's the environment I have most of the times in my room.
Any noise in my room is "made" by either me, my guitar, my PC, the ceiling fan, or my brother.

Sometimes, I like noises - well mostly if they're pleasant. I'm kinda sick of being lonely.

.emerald January 16th, 2009 11:35 PM

I prefer both. Occasionally, I would lock myself in my room and contemplate in silence. When I feel bored, I do the same but with my iPod shuffle.

Volknerz January 16th, 2009 11:37 PM

HECK NO!!! i have to have some music or some on, cuz as a rapper and a singer music is my life.

but silence kinda gets me grumpy... shot i cant sleep with silence in fact it wakes me up!

Mitchman January 17th, 2009 12:48 AM

I love the silence. It makes me feel a bit clam like no care in the world but freaked out when you hear a creak or a bump and the noise i use to wake up and to sleep. Strangely enough listening to metallica puts me to sleep.

Evilyn January 17th, 2009 1:04 AM

No, I always, always, listen to music either on my mp3 or the computer via WMP. Silence makes me nervous.

BeachBoy January 17th, 2009 1:10 AM

Complete silence? With my sister around? Impossible, but if achieved, of course I'd welcome it. :D

Usually though, relaxing music creeps in when I need some music through the room.

Also, moved to Other Voting Polls, as this seems to be a less discussion oriented topic.

Signomi January 17th, 2009 1:24 AM

I don't mind being in a room of silence, it's actually rather peaceful when nobody else is around and I'm free to do my work without distraction. And while I don't particularly mind working in a room of noise, I find solitude to be a great atmosphere to get the job done.

Dukey January 17th, 2009 1:49 AM

I'm in one right now.
It really depends what I'm doing though, if there's no computer or form of technology then no way =/

NoBel_ToKYo ™ January 17th, 2009 3:00 AM

Nah, personally, i'm a music lover. Can't live without the stuff XD but i remember it used to get annoying cause my brother, when he was little used to have music on while he was sleeping ALL night cause he used to get ringing in his ears..So he did that to block it out, and now the words of Mambo No.5 will be burned into my head forever because of it..XD

Aizuke January 17th, 2009 3:14 AM

I don't think I'd be able to. I always need some sort of noise. And even if it's silent, then you hear the some distant ringing noise... Or that's just me. XD;

But silence feels weird and creepy to me.

XaRhS January 17th, 2009 5:06 AM

I'm a really lonely person,so most of the time,i prefer being in a room with silence or somewhere else alone.

Yrie January 17th, 2009 6:10 AM

I most definitely could, I find a silent and calm environment to be the best environment to study in, or to do homework in, which I prefer to get over with as fast as possible, so yeah, for that reason, I don't really mind the silence. Otherwise, though, I find dead silence to be opressive and a bit creepy, which is when I need some form of noise, preferably music.

Michii January 17th, 2009 9:46 AM

Silence. It's wonderful when you're tired, but what about when you're restless? The lack of sound actually hurt my ears last night while I was trying to sleep. Something about it made me feel like someone was about to set off a dynamite in them. Then the noises. Little creaks everywhere freaked me out slightly, but I cast them aside. Sure, I had seen the Shining the day before, but the movie wasn't scary to me, so I just pretended that nothing happened. Then something fell. Boom, something crashed on the floor. Moreeeee silence. Ahhh, I freaked, thinking someone was going to pop in my room and say, "Here's Johnny!"

I hate silence when your imagination gets involved like mine had last night. It's a blessing when you're dead tired, but when you're restless? Your mind plays tricks on you. D:

Yamikarasu January 17th, 2009 10:36 AM

Well, I would usually prefer music, but if there is nothing I'm in the mood to listen to then I'll just turn it off and do something quiet like read a book.

True Reign January 17th, 2009 10:45 AM

Both. I can be in a room with complete silence all day if you let me, but I also need the fan on when I go to sleep.

For some reason, I like that smooth beat of the fans.

Dogboy2709 January 17th, 2009 10:47 AM

Every now and then i could deal with no sound. (I have to when there is a lock-down drill at school) other times, it just gets too creepy. Sometimes when i'm home alone, I hear this thing that sounds like a "pop" coming from the kitchen.

However, i usually have my DS on me XD XD

Caelus January 17th, 2009 10:55 AM

Sound. I live in a pretty quit place so I always welcome sound, even if it's loud (Just as long as it isn't too loud).

I have a hard time sleeping without sound so I always keep my TV open, and if I don't it usually takes half an hour for me to go to sleep.

Fenrir Reki January 17th, 2009 10:57 AM

I could stay in a room alone if it was silent. I wouldn't mind it, but listening to music would be nice though.

Ruphire January 17th, 2009 10:59 AM

I can't stand absolute silence when i'm alone at home. I just need some noise! It's kind of weird.

Sammi January 17th, 2009 7:03 PM

Depends on my mood. Silence is okay sometimes, but most of the time, I do like to have some sort of noise, usually music. It's not a necessity, though. Over the break, there were times when I was on the computer on my own, with no noise, and it didn't bother me a bit.

If it's really late at night, that's when it tends to be silent, just because that's when people are sleeping. I like music, but not so much so, my headphones are always on.

Zelda January 17th, 2009 9:28 PM

Sometimes I can...sometimes! Most of the time there is sounds...lol ':D

Abi January 17th, 2009 11:02 PM

Well, it depends on the mood. When I want to relax and forget about the world I like to go to my room, since it's pretty quiet there. But most of the time, I like having the radio or TV on :P

Idiot! January 18th, 2009 2:36 AM

I can bear with silence. Put me in a quiet room with someone who will never start a conversation, and I bet the hidden voice recorder can't record anything. Being very near to a source of sound energy, I can't bear it, though.

Ayano Katagiri January 18th, 2009 3:11 AM

I am right now, the only sound being made is from laptop. And I don't really mind it, though I do usually put on some music.

the bitter end. January 18th, 2009 5:14 PM

It really depends on my mood. I can sit in a room with complete silence when I want to be alone, or when I'm tired. Otherwise I like to have some sort of sound, whether it's my brother screaming in the background or some music.

Hantsuki January 18th, 2009 5:52 PM

Well, I would rather be in a room with absolute silence than in a room with ridiculously loud music.

Capt. Couch January 18th, 2009 7:50 PM

I can live with either. The only time I would prefer sound over silence is when I am playing my cello and I royally screw something up since it makes an awkward atmosphere. Then again, I find it difficult to play cello with a constant undertone of some sort, so I get caught in the middle with that kind of situation.

kissing. raindrops January 18th, 2009 7:53 PM

It definitely depends on what I'm doing and how I'm feeling. Mostly silence is good, except I prefer music over all noise. =)
If I'm doing homework, it's gotta be quiet or music.

Gulpin January 18th, 2009 9:14 PM

No, I hate it when things are completly quiet. I can't fall asleep without a blaring loud TV.

♣Gawain♣ January 18th, 2009 10:12 PM

I really hate noises, all kinds. I can stand silence for about 2 hours without getting crazy 'cause I always read books.

moments. January 19th, 2009 3:44 AM

I can if there are people home. If nobody is home I get scared and think somebody might come in and get me...

beauty. proletariat January 19th, 2009 4:00 AM

I like quiet rooms with a faint blur of noise.

Imperfections are my "thing" and a quiet room thats... not so quiet is totally me XD It also gives me time to calm down 'nd stuff.

Legobricks January 19th, 2009 11:33 AM

I had an ear infection once in both ears and there's something blissful about not being able to hear anything (I could hear, but only if a sound was fairly loud).
But sitting in a room with nothing to hear is not nice; It's only nice if I can walk outside and watch things.

Belinda January 19th, 2009 1:01 PM

I love the quiet so much,I barely have anything on besides music at a low level.

Unforgettable January 19th, 2009 1:06 PM

It is never silent in my house, so I wouldn't know how to act with it. I have to have music playing all the time. XD

Mr. Epic January 19th, 2009 1:29 PM

I would say both in general but for working, some are better in noise and some without, I think I need stimuli to work well but too much noise disturbs me pretty much.

Melody January 21st, 2009 1:22 AM

I love silence. I love sound.

Either way, I dont need to have perfect silence around me. But if I sit too long in a silent room I tend to get fidgety if I have nothing to do.

ArcanineOod February 14th, 2009 2:10 PM

It really does depend on my mood. Some days I can't stand silence, but other days I long for it...
What gets me is uber loud noise. Gah...
xX

Himawarii February 15th, 2009 8:27 AM

I'd probably go to sleep, which is okay, but I'd prefer it to be sound. Music preferably, people talking bores me just as much as silence. x|

Eucliffe February 15th, 2009 8:32 AM

...

...

BWAH HAH HAH HAH XD

Sorry, not laughing at your question. I was just thinking of the situation.

I'm an avid daydreamer, so music or no music, I'll still daydream with voices in my head (though the music from things I might've heard earlier might overlap with my daydreams X_x). The same goes for sound, I suppose.

So, regardless of the presence of sound/music, I'll still always have my daydream voices in my head.

X-626 February 15th, 2009 11:13 AM

I absolutely hate silence, and that's only because when it's quiet, I have this serious ringing in my ears. I can almost always hear it, but it's a lot louder in silence. I prefer some form of sound (mainly music). As long as the sound isn't too quiet (and preferably, not too loud), I don't really hear that ringing.

Dark Azelf February 15th, 2009 3:24 PM

If i am alone, i prefer listening to music and for some reason im able to concentrate on things more when i am listening to it, rather than in silence. I guess it also depends on my mood too.

Honest February 15th, 2009 3:50 PM

Im in silence all the time, now included. I usually have my MP3 handy, though. but silence dont affect me. XD

Wish February 15th, 2009 3:59 PM

I sometimes hate the complete emptiness of sound. There has to be some sound in order for me to relax. Even the slightest hum from the fan thing on my computer relaxes me. I hate it at school where you enter a classroom of complete silence. It makes me restless and irritated for some odd reason.

Soul Eater February 15th, 2009 4:00 PM

I hate background noise but because I take a stimulant medication, the background noise isn't hurtful.

I do have a fear of jets and fire trucks. I'm always afraid that a fire truck will go off if I'm near it. The sirens of a fire truck will hurt my ears and cause me to cover my ears in some sort of reflex.

I have mild to moderate Autism so anything loud like thunder, fire trucks, yelling, babies crying, anything that would jump me or be too loud for me to handle, makes me cover up my ears.

I've cried because of thunder before. I've also had outbursts towards my mother for yelling at me and ended up melting down because I hate people who yell at me.

The sound just hurts my ears and I cry with panic.

As for silence, I usually hate being in my room without having the TV going or having both my fans on medium. It all adds up to what I said about sound above, because I'm afraid of hearing sudden noises that might cause me to panic, I have to have noises that bring comfort to me.

Guillermo February 16th, 2009 1:37 AM

It depends. I like silence in the classroom so I can just finish my work. After I've done that, I'll be as loud as an air horn. I don't like silence in an open room though.. it makes me feel lonely. XD

Vincent. February 16th, 2009 3:11 AM

it depends on my mood if I am very mad I don't like the noisy places but if I'm in good mood I like the noisy places.

deliriouspurple February 16th, 2009 3:37 AM

I like the quiet place! But I can't seem to find that kinda place everywhere...I just can't stand noisy places! it's really annoying.

Fusktacular Frizzlee February 16th, 2009 4:36 AM

i prefer the quiet :bandit:

Unforgettable February 16th, 2009 9:12 AM

There is always noise going on in my house. Though I like the quiet sometimes.

Razer302 February 16th, 2009 11:01 AM

I always have music on but I hate it when the noise is people shouting or just talking to loud. There are times when I love the quiet like when I am working, but it is never quiet in my house.

Franceschi February 16th, 2009 11:23 AM

I have to have some sort of noise. It could be music, then again it could the noise my laptop makes or the noises that come from my brothers when they play computer games - there's usually a lot of "AHAHA NOOB. LEARN TO PLAY THE GAME" going on. d(' 'd)

I hate silences which is why I take all the time when nothing else is happening.
Listening to music before I sleep is one of my habits. I listen until I'm about to sleep and then sleep.

This is me to a T. My latest habit has been to turn on my DS (R4 homebrew cart...please let me know if I shouldn't talk about this) and listen to the soundscapes I have loaded on it.

I listen to these soundscapes most of the time, actually. Being able to hear the rain in the summertime (especially with the bushfires that were going on) is just soothing. :3 In fact, I get to sleep EASIER with these soundscapes on than without.

For the purpose of the thread though, I usually have some sort of sound going but I do appreciate the silence. :3

~ Yukishii February 19th, 2009 3:40 AM

I can not stand silence.
I must be playing music at the computer, or while trying to sleep I turn on my fan for some noise.
Silence is for squares.

Corvus of the Black Night February 19th, 2009 4:35 AM

For some reason, when things are silent, I start to talk to myself simply to hear noise. It's a weird obsession I have.

So noise.

Cold Fusion February 19th, 2009 10:06 AM

I would always have silence in the room. As the saying says Silence is golden.

Varjak Paw February 19th, 2009 10:09 AM

Silence helps me to concentrate, though it gets a bit eerie if there's absolutely no sound at all. Loud music is distracting though, so I usually just play it softly.

EmeraldSky February 19th, 2009 11:18 AM

For me, the sound and the music are a part of the experience--but if I'm going to be listening to the same old song for hours on end (eg. the Ancient Cave in the Lufia series), I turn it off and put different music on

Heart February 20th, 2009 4:11 AM

I love the silent room, not if it's boring but it helps me to concentrate a lot and makes me happy I think.

zel 2.0 February 20th, 2009 8:44 AM

You're talking about a natural state in my room, so I'm used to silent rooms. Of course, from time to time, if I'm really -extremely I should say- bored, I may put some music (which I listen with headphones, though). I prefer when there's silence overall.

Azzurra February 21st, 2009 7:04 PM

I actually prefer silence over no silence. I find it peaceful, but after too much time I start to feel very bored.

Lil' Schu February 21st, 2009 8:51 PM

Being an only child, I kind of grew up with silence. I don't mind it; but if it goes on for too long (more than an hour) I have to turn the TV on or my iPod or *something*.

BakerForLife February 21st, 2009 8:54 PM

I love the silence. Let's me concentrate on what I'm doing a lot better.
