Do you follow trends?

Because short-shorts are that awesome.

Anyway, when a trend starts, do you tend to folllow it?

January 20th, 2009 5:00 PM

You're asking a slanted question. The real question is whether or not we start the trends...most trends are regional, unless you're talking Crocs or somethin'.

If the other cool people do it, then yes...if it's one group exclusively, then no. For example, my school has 'Sweater Fridays'...we wear sweaters on Friday. It's a trend. Yeah, I partake in it...

moments. January 20th, 2009 5:07 PM

Well I don't normally follow trends, I try and be as different as I can be while not going to over the top..
But I started a trend which is yet to take off as of now.
I couldn't find a belt and my jeans kept falling down so I took my giant novelty paper clip and put it through 2 belt loops and it held my jeans on!

Wulf January 20th, 2009 5:10 PM

In all seriousness, no, I don't. 1 reason is because it's just a waste of everything, the other reason is, trends always changes so fast, it's hard to keep track of.

Stronkadonk January 20th, 2009 5:29 PM

Half the time.
The other half, I start them.

♣Gawain♣ January 20th, 2009 6:06 PM

Hardly. I'll just follow my own way and buy what is appropriate.

Ho-Oh January 20th, 2009 6:11 PM

I participate in whatever gets me interested. If one has like for example.. over probably 5 participants in it, I'd immediately hate it and go against it. Then I'll probably end up liking it in the end.

... I used to hate CSS because of this reason. XD;

Capt. Couch January 20th, 2009 6:22 PM

Not really. The only things I follow which can hardly be considered "trends" are the things that go on in my circle of friends, which we all kind of get into since we all have similar interests.

Aurafire January 20th, 2009 6:25 PM

Well, I don't follow trends just for the sake of following trends. If I like something, I'll do it. If it's a trend, then so be it =P

Belinda January 20th, 2009 6:39 PM

I never follow trends,I like to wear what I feel comfortable in.

wolf January 20th, 2009 6:43 PM

No, I don't follow trends, they go way to fast. -.-

Yrie January 20th, 2009 6:54 PM

I follow the Converse trend at my school, but not really since I've always worn Converses, even before the trend started. Crocs are ew imo though.

Gerri Shin January 20th, 2009 6:59 PM

not really, the usual reason is that I don't even know what the trend is until it's just about over, then I figure it's too late to start now.

TwilightBlade January 20th, 2009 7:19 PM

Usually I do if it's something cute. Hollister~ Crocs are eww.
Or I start trends. -pokes avatar-

Yu_&_Rei January 20th, 2009 9:23 PM

I dont follow em, but i do set them sometimes, but I never intend to do so.

Archer January 20th, 2009 9:25 PM

Well I'm really tempted to join the Crystal Animated Avatars, purely because I want to see how far it goes. Usually I ignore trends, but if I actually like the trend, I consider it once it's died down.

Caelus January 20th, 2009 9:26 PM

If it's on the internet and it involves avatars/signatures then yes, but if it's in real life then I tend to not follow them (With some exceptions).

Coincidentelly I'm following a trend as I'm typing this.

Melody January 20th, 2009 11:48 PM

I tend to dislike trends that become wildly popular really fast. I avoid such trends. But on rare occasion a trend does tickle my fancy and I do partake in it in my own unique way.

Aizuke January 21st, 2009 2:53 AM

I'm half and half. Usually I start the trends though.

But I follow trends because people force me too. (Ahh peer pressure D:) But then I get over it in about half an hour. :x

moments. January 21st, 2009 2:54 AM

Well I just followed a trend by getting the Jynx avatar from Crystal...
I think it is cool to be part of a group!

>Feelings< January 21st, 2009 5:03 AM

I just do whatever I like. If something I like has somehow something to do with trend, that's the only time I follow them. Otherwise, no.

Legobricks January 21st, 2009 5:33 AM

No; if you're on about clothes, I just wear what's comfortable.

Observing trends at least is a good way to find out what of the things I do like. From the Converse trend I found that the best kind of shoes for me have no heels.

Rogue planet January 21st, 2009 10:22 AM

No; I like to do the opposite, I don't want to be one of many.

THIRTY-SIX January 21st, 2009 10:26 AM

I don't follow trends… unless they are hat related xD

Tater Tot January 21st, 2009 10:29 AM

Pfft, yeah right. I don't want to be too common, it's boring. People may look at you like you like you're retarded, but it doesn't really matter. I may follow them just so people don't make fun of me, however I don't want to. Well.. unless I like the trend. XD

Yeah, what's with those avatars now? XD

Signomi January 21st, 2009 11:11 AM

I would prefer to have some distinction amongst other members, though I don't hesitate to follow some trends (i.e: use of type characters, CSS in signatures, etc.) But one area I'd like to stand out would be by making use of my own artwork in banners and avatars, which is something I've been doing for almost three years.

Michii January 21st, 2009 2:35 PM

Yes, I initially follow trends. I wear skinny jeans, converse, and all that stuff that's popular now. Though, I've found that I've put my own completely unique spin on many of the trends I follow. I change the way I wear something in comparison to everyone else, making myself blend in enough not to be looking like a two headed monkey, but also making myself stand out enough to have people compliment my style.

Forum wise, kind of. I've taken styles and things that other members have used in their own graphic design and I've twisted them slightly so it suits my own. I don't want an exact replica of anyone's graphic style here, so as a photoshopper, I change a lot. And then there are the banners. I've always believed that I've had a slightly unique signature, and I hope to keep it at least slightly different from the norm. ^^

Percy Thrillington January 21st, 2009 2:41 PM

In real life, I tend to follow threads a lot. If you don't wear the right clothes and you don't listen to the right music, you're uncool. I'd like to say I believe in originality but school is incredibly hard when you don't go with the flow, so yeah. Plus I don't feel like getting beaten up anytime soon, you know?

On forums, I think trends are pretty cool 'cause no one's going to treat you like a social outcast if you don't go with them. Crystal avatars are awesome.

Dukey January 21st, 2009 2:45 PM

Lol.
-Hides Avatar-

Umm it really depends on what I think of it. If it's completely against what I stand for.
Then no I won't, as long as it's something I could get into, then I suppose so.

AuraAshley January 21st, 2009 2:49 PM

well no, i dont follow the popular trends in school. i like to be my own person and dress the way i want to and not like anyone else. it makes me feel unique

Sublime January 21st, 2009 5:46 PM

*Looks at my avatar*
Of course I follow trends!
xD

In real life though, no. Trends aren't as cool in real life.

lol agree i think everyone is following the avii trend

¡No Hablo Inglés! January 21st, 2009 9:19 PM

Well, if we're talking about clothing and fashion trends, then no, I'll just wear what I like, thanks very much. Besides, I'd rather be comfortable in something that people think looks weird than being uncomfortable and 'cool'.

I must say when it comes to fads and similar trends I often get involved in them, some of the time I even start them. At my old school I brought back the Yo-yo twice in three years. =P

Mooshykris January 22nd, 2009 9:37 AM

Everyone on here has followed the Pokemon trend.

Once in a while I do, but generally I try NOT to follow trends.

~Moshykris

Idiot! January 23rd, 2009 5:58 PM

If I find it fits into my high standards, yes. Most of the time, no.

Aether January 23rd, 2009 7:06 PM

In real life, no. I'm not a rebel (Which is arguably a trend), I simply wear what I want to wear and do what I want to do.

Internet? Ummm, it depends.

Zebra Thunderhead January 23rd, 2009 7:12 PM

In real life: Nope. Trends are for whores. I R NOT TRNDWHOR

Online: Nope. Do you see me with an animated Crystal icon? I THINK NOT!

Ezzo! January 25th, 2009 12:07 AM

I'ma trndwhor.
Online, *looks at avvy* and irl. *looks at clothes*

Ayano Katagiri January 25th, 2009 12:13 AM

Nope, I generally don't unless it's something I actually like. But even then, I prefer making it a bit more unique to distinguish between my stuff and the general trend.

NoBel_ToKYo ™ January 25th, 2009 2:40 AM

I find that most of the places i buy my clothes from are pretty much "following the trends for me", So to an extent, Yes, i carefully pick the threads i'm wearing. But i don't make myself Look exactly the same as anyone else. I like popular/expensive clothes, but i like to feel unique in those clothes more.

As for the internet...Well i'm not getting one of those avvies when i can make my own ^_^

Mr. Epic January 25th, 2009 8:13 AM

Being the conformist I am, I follow them very much so.

devilicious January 25th, 2009 8:20 AM

I don't mind following a trend if it's something I find stylish or useful or whatever.

Blitzballer January 25th, 2009 8:34 AM

I usually follow trends, unless it's something reallyyyyy stupid. Like, I have a pair of white sunglasses and aviators, but I don't have stunna shades. If it's something preppy, I'll buy it. Most of the time when I see a trend, I'm like, "hey, that's cool." It's not like I'm doing something I don't want to.

Amaruuk January 25th, 2009 8:02 PM

I never, ever follow a trend for the sake of following a trend. More often than not I find myself resentful of them. If what I do, by some divine stroke of luck, is actually a trend, then whatever. I don't recall it ever making me any more popular.

Also, I never follow fashion trends of any sort, be they big designer sunglasses, low-rise or skinny jeans, capri pants, or trends from other styles like punk, goth, etc. I buy what I like, and many of my clothes are ones I've had for as many as 7 years because I still love them and didn't get enough of a growth spurt during puberty to outgrow them.

I consider social networking sites and text messaging on cell phones to be trends, and ones I can't stand. Mainly because of the stereotypes of people I associate with them.

Soul Eater January 26th, 2009 1:49 PM

I hardly ever follow trends. :< I like being myself. I don't see any reason to follow the crowd because to me, you aren't showing who you really are. :<

Then again, it depends on the trend. If its one of those latest clothing trends, then no, I don't follow them. D:

As I've said, I like being myself and I have my own style that helps express my true self. :B So for me, trends are usually just a way of trying to fit in, which usually leads to letdowns, at least for me. XD
