Standard or Automatic?
If you drive a car or know anybody who does, what do they/you use?
Standard (also known as "Stick")...or Automatic? My dad tried teaching me Standard once, I gave up real easily. XD; However I can use Automatic like a charm. :3 How bout' you guys? |
Oh lord, I shouldn't be within a few hundred feet of a standard vehicle. XD
Really, I am just truly terrible at driving a stick-shift! Three people have tried to teach me how to maneuver it and I utterly failed every time. I just can't seem to switch gears and drive safely at the same time, it just can't be done. (Kudos to all of you out there that can actually pull it off. ;;) Automatic all the way, my friends. |
Yeah, I'm never driving standard unless I'm forced to. Automatic transmission is a great invention XD
All though in all seriousness, driving standard is many times cooler, especially if you're in a very nice car =P |
I am too young to drive as of now but here in Australia 'Standard' is called 'Manual'.
I am going to get a Manual license so I can drive both, if I really hate Manual I can just stick to Automatic. |
Like, the only cars in England are manual, everyone who can drive can do it manual...
Being the sort of awkward person that always prefers to do things the old way, given the choice I'd still go with manual. I do so in racing games too. Quote:

I currently drive a manual now and I love it. It only gets slightly annoying when I'm trying to eat a bagel on the way in to work...
|
Every car my family has owned since I was born has an automatic, so that's what I learned how to drive. Really, though, for my preferred car type (large American sedans), I can't picture any of them with a manual transmission.
|
It's manual here, not standard. My parents both drive automatic cars. I'm not sure why they chose so.
When I learn to drive a car, I'm definitely going to choose manual so I can mini-turbo like I do in Mario Kart Wii. XDDD Just joking, obviously. |
Automatic driver. I can drive Manual, but feel soooo uncomfortable doing so.
|
I drive an automatic, since I had no standard/manual cars to learn in.
But manual cars tend to break easier than automatics so.. I'd stick with the auto. :x From what I've heard people who drive manuals like to be in control, since you get to change gears and what not. It's more suited to people with a passion to drive. I don't really care about all that, I just want to drive and not have to think. XD; |
I drive a car, yes. Though over here we call Standard "Manual". I have never driven an Automatic before, and I wouldn't really want to anyway. I love being in control of the gears and I think it just contributes to the fact that I enjoy driving and would want to make the most of that experience.

My dad's is Standard. Nothing beats the old timer.
|
Give me an automatic transmission plzkthx.
I dont want to have to worry about when I need to shift, I worry enough when I drive. |
Both, switching from time to time - am I the only one?
In my place standard is called "manual". But I heard that even though automatic is better in every way, the gearbox can lock up the movement of wheels when it's damaged. However it is still possible for manual ones to be moved even if the gearbox is damaged. Tell me if this is wrong. Of course automatic is sooo much easier, and I'm great at it. But I can't use manual that greatly. I'm still switching between both so that I can master manual. It's true that, anyone who can drive manual can also drive automatic like piece of cake, but it isn't necessary that anyone who can drive automatic can pull of manual. |
