One for all or All for one

When you played R/B/G/Y, did you only train one pokemon or all of your pokemon?
Well, I was young so it was sort of a split, my starter was WAY stronger than my other team members, but I could kind of count on all of them in battle... remember, I said kinda.

Eon-Rider January 23rd, 2009 10:14 PM

That's what I do in every game since it only requires one super powerful Pokemon to beat the whole game. Some versions are slightly more difficult though.

TwilightBlade January 23rd, 2009 10:36 PM

I level up my team equally. When one gains a level, I'll switch and train the others until they all gain one level and recycle that. It's how I've always done it.

I knew this kid in elementary school who had a level 70 Furret and some level 12 crap by the Team Rocket ambush in Goldenrod. Lawl.

After learning how much fun is sucked out of sweeping through the game with just one pokemon that usually becomes too overpowered by the third gym, I decided to raise entire teams of six.

Bejesus January 24th, 2009 9:19 AM

I used to only do a few, just having my starters and maybe one or two others, the rest would be HM Slaves. Now in Pokemon Diamond i actually raised nearly a full team gradually and i think they could all hold their own.

On another note sometimes my starter pokemon might not always be the lead/highest leveld. If that matters :)

I do pretty much this. I get a team of six Pokémon I like, and I level them up evenly. It means I've got backups in case someone kicks the crap out of my main one.

Skaterzpenguin January 24th, 2009 1:16 PM

I always train all my pokemon equally (all of them). Like if one pokemon was Lv.8 and another was Lv.10. I would train the Lv. 8 to Lv.10 to be equal with my team. :]

I don't understand why everyone keeps taking my words from my mouth ;-;

But yeah, when I was playing Blue, the anime was extremely influential and my friends and I believed that Pokémon was all about teamwork!

Cold Fusion January 24th, 2009 2:00 PM

My starter is usually higher level but the others are only a few levels down.

PokemonMichael January 24th, 2009 2:04 PM

i used to.
now i train full teams, even my wailmer(Hm Slave) its a wailord now, i just evolved it.

Bibliophibian January 24th, 2009 8:27 PM

I train a full team of six. It's a lot more fun to me to train and raise different Pokemon rather than just going through an entire game with just one.

I usually tend to keep my starter a few levels above the rest of my team, but otherwise I raise all of them evenly.

Heiheipig January 25th, 2009 12:59 PM

I've always had a evenly leveled team, even in R/B/Y, I couldn't stand having an overpowered pokemon in my team.

angelsavoir January 25th, 2009 9:25 PM

When I was younger and I first started playing i would train two of them. Know I train mostly all of my pokemon to the same level. I have over 6 that are the same levels through training.

FastTonyDeNiro January 26th, 2009 1:06 AM

I train a team of 6. In RBY my starter was usually my strongest for most of the game, but towards the end I normally had at least 1 pokemon pass it in levels. I've got all 151 pokemon in RBY and every single one of them is at least level 30 haha.

In GSC, I train my whole team, but my starter always stays my strongest for some reason.

I remember when I was younger I trained my whole team, and I was the only one who did that. All my other friends who played just trained one pokemon so I always felt like I was a better trainer than them.

train one to high level, EXP share on anyone +elite 4. In Crystal easiest way to get Pikamans to Level 40

Clairissa February 4th, 2009 7:31 PM

Since I started playing at 8 years old, I always leveled them in a pattern.
Every 5 levels for one I leveled another, always made sure whatever I would be using for the next gym got to the level first though.
Still do it.

ckret2 February 4th, 2009 7:44 PM

The first time I played Yellow, I caught a Diglett before the third badge. Interestingly enough, out of the six remaining badges, a Ground-type is super-effective against three of the types and only vulnerable to one of the types. I showed up at the Elite 4 with a level 60 Dugtrio, an Ivysaur in the mid-20s, and a handful of Pokémon that hadn't even made it to level 20.

Then my Dugtrio met Lorelei's Pokémon.

I've kept a balanced team ever since then.

Caelus February 4th, 2009 9:53 PM

Back during my old Pokemon days I believed one Pokemon was enough to tackle the elite four, and only one Pokemon. Turns out it gets really boring after awhile, and once it faints your screwed, so I decided to train them all equally; just incase one of them faints.

Didn't do this until the 3rd gen, sadly.

dc_united February 5th, 2009 6:42 AM

the first time I ever played, I didn't know how to switch pokemon, so I ended up with a superpowered meganium, and a bunch of lvl 10s. Quite sad, I only figured out how to switch after restarting my game. Now I try to get my team within five levels of my highest level pokeon.

Callandor February 5th, 2009 10:12 AM

Most of the time I train all my pokemon equally, but sometimes one may become more powerful if I feel I'll need it more than the others. I also try to keep my starter the most powerful most of the time though.

Superjub February 5th, 2009 11:53 AM

I think most people only trained one pokemon 'back in the day.' (I just had to ay that =D)
Anyway, I remember I had like a Level 100 Charizard and nothing else XD
Now, on my diamond and some others (but I can only remember my Diamond team) my team is balanced with a Roserade, Empoleon, Rapidash...ummmm...Staraptor, Luxray and...oh yeah, Alakazam! =D

Akeraz February 5th, 2009 11:58 AM

I used to play with one overpowered pokémon when I was younger.
But that just got boring after a while, so by the time I reached G/S/C, I was raising full teams of Pokémon. Also, every pokémon in my team HAS to be the same level..

Bamboo February 5th, 2009 12:01 PM

It was hard for me to train evenly. But I always made it through:D

QANTAN February 5th, 2009 12:21 PM

Sometimes I did one and sometimes I did all, it all depended on the Pokemon I caught early on. I f they were able toi survive and get huge EXP fast, then i would give some effort to them.

Heather February 5th, 2009 3:16 PM

I trained all of my party pokemon. Not every single one i ever caught. But of corse i always had a favorite that i would use more than others.
