Rate my team

Hey guys, I have decided to get back into the Pokemon world a couple of weeks ago. I was a big fan of the franchise couple of years ago, and it seems like many things have changed.

There is a lot of Pokemon I have never seen before, and that I know nothing of, and so I can't consider myself a Pokemon Master anymore.

This is why I have decided to start playing the Pokemon games again. Started off with yellow (to refresh my memory) now playing Crystal, new is Emerald and then Platinum. I also wanna get through the remakes they've done with the original games.

I have caught all 151 Pokemon in Yellow and have obviously beaten the Elite Four. In Crystal, I have all 16 badges and am getting set up to beat Red.

What do you think about my main team on YELLOW?

L61. ELECTABUZZ (187 HP)
- Thunder
- Thunderbolt
- Screech
- Light Screen
Attack: 147
Defense: 102
Speed: 166
Special: 148

L60. BLASTOISE (193 HP)
- Dig
- Surf
- Hydro Pump
- Blizzard
Attack: 140
Defense: 155
Speed: 137
Special: 133

L64. ARTICUNO (216 HP)
- Ice Beam
- Softboiled
- Fly
- Blizzard
Attack: 153
Defense: 160
Speed: 145
Special: 198

L62. CLEFABLE (216 HP)
- Softboiled
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
- Sing
Attack: 130
Defense: 135
Speed: 112
Special: 137

L62. CHARIZARD (209 HP)
- Flamethrower
- Hyper Beam
- Fire Blast
- Dig
Attack: 148
Defense: 130
Speed: 169
Special: 138

L81. MEW (311 HP)
- Flamethrower
- Ice Beam
- Psychic
- Softboiled
Attack: 211
Defense: 226
Speed: 225
Special: 213

Keep in mind the only trainers I can battle are the elite fours, so that team pretty much kills them, and also I did use Gameshark, but only to teach my Pokemon some attacks that they would have never learnt otherwise. I didn't go overboard either, tried to keep it realistic a little bit. Only thing that might be 'stretching' it a little bit could be Mew's flamethrower, as I can hardly imagine that cute little thing generating a flamethrower in his mouth. But then again, they say Mew can learn any and all moves.

Regarding Mew - I did the now well-known glitch just above Cerulean city, caught it a lvl 7 and trained him all the way to where he is now. For some weird reason though everytime he gets experience it says 'boosted' and he gets an awful lot of experience point, so that is why he is so much more high-leveled than the other Pokemon on my party.

Yes I did start with Pikachu, and he's now at level 69, but I felt him and I had to part ways when I felt in love with Electabuzz, who's obviously a much better pokemon anyway. If only I could evolve that fricking Pikachu...

Like I said, my team just gets the job done. I've taught half of my Pokemon the move softboiled, so they can recover on and off the battle field. Aside from Electabuzz's light screen and screech attack, which by the way makes him deadly against any Pokemon that is not rock/ground, most of my Pokemon have straight forward all-out attack moves.

The reason is that I find there is not a lot of strategy in Yellow, compared to Crystal, and I imagine the other games too. They had not created enough moves that does status damage, and most of the time it's better to just pound the opponents with physical or special attacks until it faints anyway.

So now the only thing I do is get more experience by batting the elite 4, making more money to buy more Irons, Carbs, etc. I am wondering if there is anything else I could do to make this game more interesting. I am also training every other Pokemon I've got at prof Oak's.

In Crystal, my Pokemon are still very weak, and far from ready to battle Red. All 6 are about at level 50. I've got Snorlax, Poliwrath, Espeon, Typhlosion, Noctowl (until I catch Lugia) and a shiny Celebi (yes I did cheat to get it but it's unbeatable).

Shiny Celebi is the strongest Pokemon I have ever trained (not by level but I mean by pure strenght). It's holding leftovers and knows Recover, Leech Seed, Substite and Psychic. I'm telling ya, that thing can't be beaten.

My ''WALL'' Snorlax is also incredibly strong, it has a huge amount of HP and great defense/special defense. Best of all, I've taught him the deadly combination that is Lock On and Fissure (muhahah), Rollout (which can kill an entire team by itself) to go along with Spikes (which is a great strategic move). It is also holding leftovers.

Anyway, what do you guys think?? Also, I wanted to post pictures of my Pokemon to put a little more life into this post but the 'insert picture' feature doesn't seem to be working right now, for whatever reasons.

And sorry for my broken english, I am from Montreal. =)

red is kinda weak even it has 70+ pokemon you should try it already
i won him with 2 lvl 60 pokemon

Not bad, but for more reliability Blastoise would be better off with Ice Beam instead of blizzard and having Hydro pump AND Surf seems a little redundant since Surf gets the job done fine without the lack of accuracy Hydro Pump has.

Charizard, well Hyper beam seems a tad pointless on him since he is much more Special Attack based than just attack, Hyper beam relies on a good attack stat, such as Gyarados or Dragonite etc.
Fire Blast is fine, If I recall it relies on Special attack, and Flamethrower relies on attack
(Even though you don't learn this until D/P games the effects are still there)

I would really replace dig with Wing Attack or Ariel Ace (I can't remember if that was in G/S/C or just 3rd Gen onwards).

Electabuzz does not seem too bad, I don't have any experience with him, but Thunderbolt is probably all you'll ever need as far as Electric attacks go.

Other than that, make sure you have the type advantage as much as possible and you're set for Red.

Hope that helps.

Yeah you're probably right xiraiya.

It is true that at the level they are at, they can finnish off the Elite 4 with Surf and Thunderbolt, no need for Hydro Pump and Thunder, since they're so unaccurate.

As for 'Arial Ace' that attack doesn't exist in Yellow.

I'm gonna re-think my attack sets now.

I'm on my way to become a Pokemon Master. =D

So I changed up the make up of my team a little bit. Same Pokemon only with slightly different attack sets. Levels are a bit higher too because I beat the Elite 4 three or four times today. Here it goes:

Mew (83)
- Ice Beam
- Softboiled
- Psychic
- Substitute

Electabuzz (63)
- Thunderbolt
- Body Slam
- Light Screen
- Reflect

Clefable (63)
- Leech Seed
- Softboiled
- Psychic
- Lovely Kiss

Charizard (64)
- Flamethrower
- Fire Blast
- Earthquake
- Swords Dance

Articuno (65)
- Ice Beam
- Blizzard
- Fly
- Mist

Blastoise (61)
- Skull Bash
- Surf
- Light Screen
- Ice Beam

Yeah that looks better, in my opinion anyway, the good thing with the games is that basically anything works well for just playing through the story, but overall they look good.

Good luck.

FastTonyDeNiro February 3rd, 2009 10:48 PM

Actually Flamethrower and Hyper Beam are both special attacks, so they use the "Special Attack" stat.

Think of it like this? If your pokemon physically hits the other pokemon, it's a physical attack and uses the "Attack" stat. So a move like body slam or tackle are physical attacks.

If it's any sort of "beam" attack or an elemental attack (fire, lightning, ice, water, etc) it's a special attack.

Either way ya your team looks pretty good. Electabuzz is a pokemon I've always wanted to use just never have.

Up next on my to do list is:

- To finnish leveling up my Pokemon in Yellow
- Complete my Johto pokedex, train every pokemon in Crystal
- Start Emerald

I've actually already started Emerald as I was pretty excited to see what it looked like, but I'm stucked at the 3rd badge; my team is way too weak to beat his thunder pokemon. There are some creepy pokemon in that game, and most of the time I have no idea whatsoever what kind of type they are. I'm still a pretty weak trainer, I need more knowledge.

Also in Crystal I need to beat the battle tower!

Lots of things to do as I'm on my way to become a pokemon master !!
