Zet February 6th, 2009 11:37 PM

thats pretty neat but hopefully people won't spam sounds

Ho-Oh February 6th, 2009 11:44 PM

Is there a limit on the file size of the sounds?

It seems awesome. :D

Lover's Kite February 7th, 2009 12:02 AM

I tested it out and it only plays the first 15 seconds or so and stops. Is there a limit on how long the file can be, or is it just buffering?

I found out why, it's buffering. Because I tried it again it went up to 2 minutes and stopped, so yeah; huge mp3 files are not recommended. :x (mine is 4.57 MB)

Lover's Kite February 7th, 2009 12:29 AM

Works like a charm, much better~ ^^

Eon-Rider February 7th, 2009 12:41 AM

The addition seems slightly useless but there isn't any problem with it being there I suppose. I'm glad they can't be auto-played.

Ho-Oh February 7th, 2009 12:44 AM

I just noticed that it seems to use up the necessary 24 characters for posts, therefore a potential way to bypass the 24 character rule... is there any way you can fix that?

Mr. Epic February 7th, 2009 6:28 AM

This is an awesome addition. I'm just not sure what to use it for yet.

.inLOVE February 7th, 2009 7:03 AM

It sounds great! I can't wait to try it!

Eucliffe February 7th, 2009 7:05 AM

That is awesome :3 Then again, I love music, just as long as it sounds good XD

Good work, PC Staff :3

This is exactly what I think XD Really cool, but I'm not sure when I should use it

Tyrantrum February 7th, 2009 9:57 AM

This is cool. :3

But just to make sure, when you say it can use any file, that means your able to put in video files from YouTube or photobucket, right?

Angela February 7th, 2009 10:06 AM

Were can one find these sounds?

Lucy Lu February 7th, 2009 10:27 AM

Wow what a cool addition. I noticed it when I seen it Danja's signature. So that is what is it, cool. But I got a question as well. If we do use it will it count as a line of text or a banner in our signature?

Legobricks February 7th, 2009 8:00 PM

Only left channel audio is coming in.
Is it just this specific clip or are they all like that?

I'm asking since I can't try it myself because I don't have any sound URLs.

Melody February 7th, 2009 8:29 PM

Well, I just uploaded a clip for my signature. it plays fine on both channels. So it's not the player. :D

Anyways this is a neat little function. Maybe you could make it so we could set a song on our profile as well :D

The DSi menu only plays audio in the left audio channel, I assume. (That, or it's my computer.)

As a headphone user, I find it hard not to.

Mm, Zanzie's signature has just answered my initial question. :O

.Seth February 8th, 2009 4:11 PM

A very nice addition, Haraken. This might come in handy for some hacking-related purposes....

Is the [sound] BB Code allowed in profiles?
I know several people that could make great use of it if it's enabled in profiles.

Well actually, neither of those are true. xD

I'm guessing you just don't want people to know how.

Dark Sakurati February 9th, 2009 8:07 PM

Cool!

This is cool! Now I wonder if there ever will be a player for profile...(If there will be, it would be good if there was a auto-play feature just for the profiles...)

ErickaVolt February 10th, 2009 5:33 AM

Another great cool addition. I saw members putting it in their signature too.

You might want to double check your code then; I've can still use playlists, autoplay, autoload etc.

Yep, I can still use autoplay.

ruby February 10th, 2009 8:03 AM

Haha, I deliberately didn't post an example for the very reason why it's not allowed. xD

I was just going to PM the examples so that people couldn't quote and use it themselves.

Mr. Epic February 10th, 2009 8:47 AM

Where does it say autoplay is not allowed, he just said the restrictions exist.

ruby February 10th, 2009 8:56 AM

Exactly, they tried to restrict it so that sounds weren't played when members didn't ant them to be.

It's just the same as them not allowing autoplay for youtube videos.

Oh great, getting closer to myspace everyday [/sarcasm]

This tag is the most useless tag I've ever seen here. Since most music is freggin copyrighted, what's the point of the tag?
IMO, there are probably other things waiting to have tags.

Virtual Chatot February 10th, 2009 6:10 PM

I like the feature, I've already made use of it :3

darkmewham2 February 13th, 2009 4:46 PM

See, why don't people just say "I have nothing else to say" or "24 characters" instead of posting a stupid picture or sound?

Because saying "24 characters" is considered as using fillers and thus it would still go against the rules, so they wouldn't be improving the post at all.

Circuit February 14th, 2009 2:17 AM

I don't think this question's been asked. What if you have tunes you want to upload from you computer and not the internet?

E.g. I want to upload Greatest Day by Take That and have it on my computer but cannot find it on the internet.

What would I do then?

I would like to second the above question, especially regarding smaller, "homemade" sound clips that might not be worthwhile to host on YouTube or anywhere else.

Circuit February 14th, 2009 2:34 PM

What is that? Sorry, I don't know much about the internet.

EDIT: Ignore this.

Tyrantrum February 14th, 2009 2:49 PM

I tried to add a song from YouTube into a sound clip.
I used the URL it gives you from the video. It showed the sound clip, but the music wouldn't play.

Zebra Thunderhead February 14th, 2009 3:36 PM

This is strikingly similar to LJ voice posts...

Captain Arcane February 14th, 2009 8:54 PM

Wow, props to you Haraken!

I think this is a great addition to the community. Someting like this makes it possible to show mini smaples of songs or other things for people like me. I don't know why, but I'm really blown away by this new feature. I can't wait to try it out!

Awesome Job Haraken,
Captain Arcane

Mitchman February 16th, 2009 5:06 AM

Nice. Also good question here/
How do i convert youtube videos to MP3?

Jumpluff February 16th, 2009 11:20 AM

How can I actually add the music to It because I don't know how to upload the music to add It, Do you recommend an site to upload and put the link to?

It's not hard to add a single sentence to your post about the clip. I do it all the time. You just have to come up with an acceptable filler (acceptable fillers are defined by the rules of PC and by the rules of the particular subforum)

Generally I just say something that's random, yet on topic.

Though to be honest, if the only thing you have to contribute to the thread is a sound clip then you probably should seriously rethink your post anyways.

This would be nice to know. I, too am puzzled as an iTunes user where to get sound file URLs and the such.

Virtual Chatot February 17th, 2009 5:28 AM

Guys, just Google MP3 Uploader...there are a ton of free Mp3 uploading sites.

You still have to upload the Mp3 file to the internet, and just search for the song on your computer. :/

TheSpatialZam February 17th, 2009 6:24 PM

Mucho thx amigo...now. What to upload...

zgillis February 19th, 2009 5:46 PM

Cool

That's really cool so you can.

Circuit March 6th, 2009 2:01 PM

I can't use it so maybe next time try to make it so it can upload music Mp3's WMA's etc. from our computers rather than the internet.

Red1530 March 8th, 2009 11:45 AM

This a very nice feature to the site.

With the amount of files being uploaded it just wouldn't be practical, it would take a up far too much space on the server.

If you need to upload an mp3 there are plenty of sites that allow you to do so, most however have a strict policy on copyrighted material. (Sound clips of songs are usually fine though)

The one I use is http://www.upload-mp3.com/, you have to be sure to set permissions as to who can access the files though.

Platinum Lucario March 9th, 2009 3:11 AM

Nice, I really like it. I never knew there was ever going to be a feature like this one.
I guess my absence has made me go behind the times, oh well. :P

Yeah, maybe I could insert one or maybe two sounds? This is so awesome, I think I might try it out soon. :D

And thanks Jake, for inserting this tag. ^^
