Making Platinum more interesting

Like a lot of you, I've been playing since the RBY days, and to be honest, I'm not really looking forward to going through the same old quest again. Do any of you have ways you make the game more interesting? Giving yourself different rules or something? I'm drawing blanks but I know there have to be "alternative" ways of questing...

On a lot of files, I make my character Ash, and restrict his party to only Pokémon Ash would use. Why not try something like that?

I monotype, try to use unevolved pokemon, or never-used pokemon.

I did a Monotype Two-Pokemon challenge back when I was active on here before, but other than that, I mainly just use Pokemon I didn't use, before.

One I always wanted to try was the Unevolved Pokemon challenge, but I never got around to it.

They can always do mini-quests

All the old mini-quests didn't feel like true mini-quests

And they could also include character customization, that would be a nice edition

I typically name my character something else, as can be seen in my sig, and I train my previously owned Pokemon that are at a low enough level. I usually forget alot of stuff that happened between the initial versions and the new version. I usually look for subtle or not so subtle changes in the storyline and other areas of the game.

I'd just get involved with the competitive metagame. There's only so much you can do ingame. Even with its enhancements, Platinum will get boring.

Write fanfiction based on new ideas you try out in your game. Or visualize everything you do in the game like an anime or manga. Just throwin things out there. And yes I've tried these things. They can actually be fun.

For the main game (Gyms+E4), there's a few things to do. They range from "cool" to "extreme":

Mono-type team.
Completely mono-team (Good luck finding enough HM users).
[Insert other gimmick team here]
Completely natural: No buying stuff. Only Pokecenters, gift items, and items found in the game.
No fainting: Don't faint at all.
Death Squad: If a Pokemon faints, you have to release it.

And my personal favorite: Team Ignore! Start the game with all high levelled/lvl 100 Pokemon (well, whenever you can trade them over). They'll never listen to you and do completely random crap like fall asleep, get confused, nothing, etc... But because of their high level, they'll probably never faint.

When I got bored in any of the games, I would battle my friends (lame way to spice things up, right?). With my Charizard named Blastoise >:D They would bring out their Venusaur, or any other spiffy grass type, and I would blow them away with Flamethrower. Most of my friends never battled me more than once :P

And for the Ultimate Challange...

Pure Mono-Team (ALL Pokemon in the team can ONLY be THAT ONE TYPE. No Dual-Types! {Unless it's one of them Flying ones... BUT THE OTHER TYPE MUST BE NORMAL!}), All-Natural/Pure-Heal (You can only use Healing Moves, Berries, Items you found, and Gift Items to heal your Pokemon.), and Death Squad (as seen above. If the Pokemon Faints, You have to release it!)

MWAHAHAHAHAHA.
Good Luck with that. xP

I always try do some kind of widespread team, made up of 'mons I haven't used before. I also tend to find things to do as self-created "sidequests", throughout the game.

I'd raise Pokemon I wouldn't normally raise, such as Murkrow or Koffing.
