Pearl: Starting Tips

Hey guys.
Bought Pokemon Pearl yesterday and just started getting into it.

So, i currently have as my party:
Monferno, lvl18
Abra, lvl 15
Budew, lvl 16
Psyduck, lvl 10
Misdreavus, lvl 10
Shinx, lvl 11

Just beat the first gym. Was wondering if anyone had any tips?
Anything anyone found useful. Item locations, Pokemon to aim for. Please avoid spoilers!

It would be much appreaciated ^_^

(i would use a walkthrough, but that risks spoilers that are too bad.)

Find a better HM Slave. Your pokemon dont look very HM compatible.

I can't really call using a walkthrough immoral and cheap, and wouldn't item locations be counted as a spolier?

Anyways, the best thing for you to do would be to make sure that you all your Pokemon are about the same level and make sure to defeat every trainer you see

My tactic was to always keep my starter Pokemon 5 levels ahead of the rest of the party

And when you get new HMs, make sure you catch a Pokemon to be used as a HM slave

You should also make your Pokemon hold items/berries

An important tip for you would be to just travel everywhere. Explore every inch of the Sinnoh Region. If there is a dead end in a town or along the routes, chances are there is something hidden there. Same with random missing patches of grass; if there is one small block that doesn't have grass covering it, stand next to the 'bald' patch, and press A to investigate.

Otherwise, just make sure you have Pokemon that can learn the HM Moves that you'll need to use. If you want to maintain your party as is, you'll need to do a fair bit of juggling Pokemon to be able to use the various conveniences that some HM moves give you.

Yeah, you should battle every trainer as you see them so you can finish your dex on time.

Here's my tip: Play through the game. Use a walkthrough. There aren't spoilers if you go page by page and don't jump ahead. For any future questions, use the Q&A threads, please.
