This hack is currently in-active, there are no scheduled plans for reviving this as of yet...

There is too much stuff going on in my life to have enough spare time to work on this. Maybe someday we will see this project up and running again.

Introduction
-You may have seen this here before back last year. I have come to restart working on this hack. Following is taken from the original thread.

Name: Pokemon: Paper Mario Adventure
Hack of: Pokemon Fire Red

Story


Hey everyone, I'm new here so many of you won't know me, but anyways heres my idea for a hack. Ever played Paper Mario on the N64? If you have then you'll know what I'm talking about. So here's the basic plot, Bowser steals this item known as a Star Rod which grants him the power to be invincible. Meanwhile Mario and Luigi are given an invitation to Princess Peach's party. Then Bowser's fortress lifts Princess Peach's castle into the sky. Then Bowser appears and fights Mario. Mario ends up losing because Bowser is now Invincible. So Mario ends up falling off and ends up somewhere in the forest. He is then found by a Goomba Girl. He then is brought to a Goomba Village. Mario is still unconscious and he gets a vision from the 7 Star Spirits and they tell him that the only way for him to go to the Star Summit. Mario then regains consciousness and heads towards the Star Summit to learn how to defeat Bowser and what he has done.


Features

Start as Mario or Luigi!
-The Intro will no longer say Boy or Girl, just Mario and Luigi
Super Mario Characters
-That's right, Mario characters in a pokemon game.
But it won't be all just Mario characters. I'll be sure to add in some surprises.
Long Storyline
-The game will consist of 8 chapters. But I'll be removing some from the original and adding new ones.
New Characters
-There will be some new characters in this game that weren't in the original.
New Side quests
-Apart from the original story, there will be a load of side quests. Some which will help you on your journeyl
New "Pokemon"
-Well I wouldn't consider them to be Pokemon...
New Areas (Not in the original Paper Mario)
-There will be some new places to visit that weren't in the original.

New Bosses
-There will be some new Bosses in this game with a whole load of new Sub Bosses.
More Enemies/Rivals
-In the original Paper Mario, you only had one rival, but in this one there will be a significantly greater amount of rivals. That and the Rival you name in the beginning.
More Partners
-In the original Paper Mario you could only get 8 Partners. But in this one there will be over 100 different kinds of partners that you could befriend or "Recruit".
Note: The Pokeball WILL have a use, but it won't be easy to capture your enemies.
New Music
-This may or may not be obvious, but there will a huge load of new music. Nearly EVERY track in this game will be replaced, and there will not only be Super Mario music like one would expect.

Quite true. Though I'm sticking with Grass for now. You'll have the ability to "Evolve" Luigi by using items resembling a Thunder Stone. This makes it so that Luigi or Mario could evolve into any of the following by using said items.
Hammer Suit - Frog Suit - Tanooki - Winged etc.

Many people attempted to make a Pokemon hack with Mario characters, but it seemed they all sucked and failed. But, this however, seems excellent! I think you should continue this. Maybe:
Change the OWs so they REALLY do look like Mario/Luigi. Check out nikkonolasco's mario sprites.
Goomba/Koopa sprites are great.
I hope you can send out the beta soon :)

The problem with using Nikkonalasco's Mario is that it's an 8 bit version. It will look a tad "out of place" with the rest of the game. But I'll look forward to changing the OWs. But at the moment it's not on my TOP priority list. As far as the release of the Beta, I won't make any promises but I'll have it within a month. But I will release a Pre-Beta so you won't have to wait a whole month to try it out. :classic:

I still need someone to help with music looping! I've tried Clonex's guide but I havn't gotten it to work :disappoin. So if someone is willing to help me or loop feel free to give me a PM :classic:

Well Princess Peach is kidnapped in this game so that's a problem there. Daisy on the other hand would work but I felt that Luigi needed a bigger "role".

Yea, In fact I have ripped most of the sprites that I'll need from MLSS. Now all I need are just some sprites which can't be ripped.

I haven't yet decided on how to work that out. Right now I have 10 Planned partners that you'll receive from following the storyline, and I have 30 more planned at the moment that you'll receive from side quests. That's 40 to choose from and at that some will be able to "Power Up" into different forms, some even having 5 to choose from such as the Yoshi. But I'll go into detail later. So with all the forms you'll have an option of 60 to choose from.

UPDATES 3/13
Today I wasn't doing much hacking, but I managed to get started on the Western part of Toad Town. I've gotten all the mapping done for the first part. Now I just need to do some scripting and start mapping the Eastern part. I'll be done with this by the end of the week.

I'm thinking on doing events in order to get some of the "pokemon" to join your party. If you've played Paper Mario on the N64 you get partners by doing certain events. You get Kooper to join your team for helping him get his shell back. But I have still yet to find ways to recieve some of the other partner's such as the Blooper. I really don't want to spoil much of the surprise :nervous:.

There won't be an Elite Four in this game and the badges will be replaced by Star Spirits. I might add some enemies from other games, though I still haven't decided who yet. But for sure this won't be 100% Mario

True. But he didn't originally have that. Ill make him start out with grass and at one point you'll be able to get something like "Thunder Gloves" and it will make him "evolve" into Thunder Hand Luigi.

1- Finished Mapping and Scripting Toad Town (West)

3- Fixed up some bugs and glitches.

Time to head towards Toad Town East which north of it will be Princess Peach's Castle. Once Princess Peach's Castle is fully finished Script Wise and Map Wise the Pre-Beta will be released.

Pre - Beta/ Alpha Whatever Update
 
I will be releasing a Pre Beta/Alpha or whatever you guys call it late this coming week.

Things to note:
1) Overworlds for Toad's will not be complete. You will still see the same old OW's for now. I will edit them later on and will be changed in Beta 1.
2) There may be some mapping errors and such (mainly around the borders), but that will be because I have yet to map other parts to connect them with.
3) There won't be too much gameplay for this release, but I promise you there will be for Beta 1.
4) The Intro will not 100% complete yet.

Thats it for right now. If all goes well it'll released by Friday/Saturday. But it could be post-poned another week if something comes up.

Sidenote: I won't be editing some stuff just yet... I'm a bit worried about running out of free space considering how long this game will be.

ALPHA UPDATE
I have just finished Mapping and Scripting for Toad Town E, and I am just about to start Mapping Princess Peach's Castle.
- This means that the Alpha WILL be released for sure by Friday, if not EARLIER. :D

I don't plan on adding any of the Koopalings just yet. I'm not 100% sure if I should add them for things like side quests and Kiing Koopa is Bowser :paranoid:.

Well i was wondering how u can find items lying on the ground in pokemon why don't you do it for mario but instead of a pokeball change it to to one of those mystery bricks and all the luck with this can't wait for the prebeta or alpha.

Nope. If you look at the Mario Games
carefully, he just claims himself as King. He isn't really a King.
Just becaue his crazy son, Bowser Jr. built a bunch of Crazy Castles
in New Super Mario Bros. for DS (I've beaten that game) doesn't mean
he is a King.

Simple Calcuation to solve misunderstanding: Bowser claims himself
as King = King = Wrong!!

Alpha Update 2
 
Quick Update On The Alpha
I have finished Mapping and Scripting Peach's Castle.
Now I just need to script and map the part where Bowser takes over the castle. If you have played that early crap version I made nearly a year ago, you'll notice that it's different. Like everything else I've done so far. I could have the Alpha released tomorrow
but I have some loose ends to tie up IRL. Plus you don't want it to be rushed either :tired:. So good chance on Thursday and a slight possibility tomorrow. But I assure you it'll be here by Friday :D.

The "King" Koopa picture above is taken from the cartoon. He is also referred to as "King Bowser Koopa" in the cartoon during some point. They do look different though :paranoid:.

I remember playing that! It was absolutely terrible gosh these maps better be more not-pokemon-style but mario-ish!!!!!ONE

I admit, those first ones were ABSOLUTE CRAP! But I'm actually taking my time with this one, so maps and scripts will be better than the version released 9 months ago. This one WILL be better. :D

You really don't want to do that :embarrass. It was something I rushed through in less than 2 days. If you really want it then PM me. Otherwise you'll have to wait a while for me to release an even better version.

All right guys. I'm at the final stages of scripting. The Alpha will be released today unless something comes up.

-Things to note:
I haven't finished the intro, but its something that we can live with for now...

Post any bugs or glitches so i can fix them immediately.

Next up - Goomba Village! Onwards to Beta 1!

hey red yoshi i went to this place that looks like a gym and it said go to your seat so i went and i battled a goomba that had no health when i defeated it the game froze.

The sign that's near the area where the Police/Toad guy comes and gets you is blank.

Also, the sign right after that glitches up for me.

Another thing, the MUSHROOM sprite also messes up for me.

This game is going to be kinda odd, but I like the sprites from M&L: Superstar Saga. It will be fun to play the completed version.

I found a few bugs,

When you fight bowser and then go back for a rematch, the game crashes.

Trying to select a mushroom in the shop crashes the game. (but I can buy pokeballs, but they don't work at all)

Signs and books have odd codes instead of text.

The battle room in toad town crashed before I fought anyone.

I'm playing this on my DS if it matters.

This looks very promising, keep up the good work.

Let's see....

1) When I try to get a Re-Match with Bowser it doesn't crash.

2) Selecting a Shroom from the Market won't crash the game.

3) Pokeballs were meant not to work in this game for some "Wild Pokemon".

4) Hmm... gotta check all those signposts then.

5) I removed some warps in the Alpha fix so that Battle Room shouldn't be there.

My guess is that it could be the Ds but I can't really prove that.

After a few more bug fixing its time to start mapping Goomba Village. Notice: I still need a spriter :\, otherwise you'll still be seeing the same old OWs.

I was wondering if you will include different kinds of yoshis as partners. Example: red yoshi-fire/dragon type, blue yoshi water/dragon, yellow electric/dragon.. and so on. Whatcha think?

Ogawd.

That was terrible.

No offence, but the mapping was horrendous and...yeah. Stuff.

The scripting was nice, I guess... But the mapping sucked. There were tonnes of tile errors and ... well, yeah. I can't really explain but it's really hard to play with bad maps. 'd advise you to practice it. >.< And there were some text errors. :\

I'm not trying to sound mean or anything, 'cos I really like this hack (for some strange reason) but you need to shape up. It felt rushed. Hope beta 2 is as good.

Hey, if you want to me to scan over the maps to check for errors, I'd be glad to.

None taken, I know that my mapping is crud. But some map errors such as in Toad Town East is because I have yet to add connections to some parts of it.

What about HMs? Have you already planned them? HM dive would be really awesome to have.
As for music, I hope you will include some classic tracks from other mario games :) ? Yoshi Island and SMB 3 have the best music imo.

I've pretty much got the HM's down. Dive will be needed to access certain areas. "Pokemon" like the Dolphin and Sushi will be able to learn that.

As far as music goes. Alasteir is doing her best to make the music, and it's actually turned out great. The Bowser theme certainly sound more "Evil". I'm planning on having music from games that aren't even related to Mario. I'll take some suggestions though.

I have just finished fixing up some more map errors and thanks to the help of Alasteir, I have added new music. No new content as of yet, but there were some script fixes, such as the Bowser event at the end.

Not yet, in-fact the M&L SS sprites are twice as bigger than the ones in Pokemon games, that and they require more frames for a smooth animation.

As a side note: These past few days I have worked mainly on music, thanks to the help of Alasteir, and it's actually coming along pretty well. As far as new content goes, nothing new has been done. Music and some text changes have been made. Example, the Pokedex is now called a "Bestiary", and in the intro "Boy" and "Girl" have been replaced with "Mario" and "Luigi". Though I still need the offset for the word "Pokemon" in the start menu, if anyone can help please do so. I'll be doing some touch ups most likely for this week and get started with Goomba Village and all the events that occur with it later this week and into the next few weeks. Expect the Beta by mid to late April. As of right now the Rival name has no use just yet. But it will soon....I'll be keeping the identity of the Rival whom you get to choose the name for a secret.

Your so right I been trying to make the Mario sprite smaller for most of the day now and what do I get it alwas hit the roof when trying to go into the house I feel like saying a bad word for wasting my time doing it. ps: I not saying you didn't tell me so just letting it all out.

Yea I remember when i tried that about a year ago. It just won't work. If you make them short then the sprite will look horrible and if they are too big they'll go through the roof and such.

Side Note: I've decided to release a Pre - Beta after the events that follow in Goomba Village, this means that Beta 1 will be longer. Beta 1 will cover both Chapters 1 and 2.

Right now at the moment I don't need much help with scripting, but I might need some with dialogue. That could make make progress a bit faster. I'll PM you when I need some dialogue scripts.

Dialogue? I can do dialogue, I meant the one thing I can't do long term scripts because I'm really getting into one of my hacks.
Plus, I recommend that you make a banner, a banner would be nice :).

Yea, I saw them. They're pretty good, soz for not replying to that xD. Those trees would fit perfectly. I guess I need to go do a little digging for tiles, but I do need some new ones for places like Koopa Village where the houses are Shells.
