Pokemon: Piratite

Many years ago, the famous Oracle named Maea visited the Orca Archipelago on her journey around the world. The islands, situated south of Hoenn, had lived a peaceful existence in solitude since the first inhabitants had arrived. Maea however predicted great turmoil in the next ten years. A war of sorts would start and the destruction of Orca would be complete. Maea further prophesied that his could be averted though if the Jewel of the Southern Seas could be saved.

Maea went on to discuss a few other things like crop cycles and marriages, but the prospect of war hung heavy on their minds. After her departure, a massive search began for the Jewel of the Southern Seas. Every mine, mountain, cave, and forest was combed over, but they discovered no mythic jewel. Disappointed, the island returned to normal, hoping the great Oracle's prophecy could be wrong every once in a while...

Cut to ten years later.

The Orca Archipelago consisted of 17 islands. Each island had at least one landmark that made it significant. The story of Piratite begins on Azure Island, known to visitor's as "Milotic's Paradise." Much like Azalea Town in Johto and Slowpoke, Milotic are considered to be sacred on this island. It has a beautiful beach, a quiet, quaint town, and a small cavern underneath the island where the Milotic rest.

The main character is a young man or woman who arrived on Azure Island several years ago. Troubled and quiet, they built their own on the outskirts of town and kept to themselves for the most part. They only opened up to the town's chief, but never talked about their past. They were happier with just their Clamperl.

While taking a stroll on the beach one morning, the main character comes upon a young boy unconscious on the beach. Rushing to the boy, they first checked to see if he was alive. When they found he was breathing, they quickly picked him up and took him into the town. The boy was dried off and put in a bed to rest with the town nurse looking over him.

A day or so passed and the boy finally woke up. He was at first startled with his new surroundings, but soon proved to be a kind, cheerful boy. He revealed his name to be Julian. He couldn't remember where he was before he washed up on the beach or where he was from originally. The chief offered Julian a place to stay as long as he wanted and the boy accepted.

"I have no where else to go anyway," he said.

That night, the peacefulness of the island was shattered. Cannon fire started to barrage the island. The main character wakes from their slumber and rushes outside. Several pirate ships had docked in the bay and were firing their cannons into the island. Frightened, the main character rushes into town and finds the inhabitants rushing to the elder's home. Following them, he found them surrounding the elder and the boy. He explains that a messenger from the pirates came to him and said as long the island returned the Jewel of the Southern Seas to them, they would cease their assault on the island.

"I fear... the boy is probably the Jewel they speak of. But I can't go against my morals and give up this boy to his fate with pirates. So I'm looking for a volunteer to slip away with the boy on our boat to the nearest island." The crowd was silent. The main character looks around and sighs. They step forward and volunteer themselves to take the boy. Smiling, the elder nods and says the main character was the best choice for the job. Handing him a potion and five PokeBalls, he tells them the boat is in the forest on the hidden bay waiting for them. They should be able to escape unnoticed.

Escorting the boy through the forest, he eventually found the boat. Knowing they had little time before the pirates overtook the island, they sailed away, unnoticed.

Unfortunately, when the pirates did overtake the island, they found a weak soul who told them the boy escaped during the night. Enraged, the pirate's leader sent out his four trusted lieutenants to find them.

While sailing, Julian reveals to the main character that it was fate that the two of them left together. Only the main character has the potential to defeat the pirates and not only save Julian, but the islands as a whole. By escaping the island and defying the pirates, they all had just put Orca Island in a great deal of trouble. These pirates were far from normal: they possessed fantastic powers that could lead to the destruction of the entire archipelago. However, if the main character visits the eight shrines of the Orca Archipelago and grows strong, they alone could take out the pirates.

So the game consists of the main character and Julian running from the pirates while visiting the shrines and growing stronger. It will eventually lead to a final confrontation on Azure Island with the Five Pirate Lords.

I really like the story. It seems very original. Also the idea of clamperl as a starter is very unique. I hope you continue it and don't give up.

Mm, it's nice to see this back, even if I wasn't around here when it was originally posted (and if I was, I never noticed it^^). The story sounds captivating, one that I would definitely enjoy playing through. I don't usually enjoy playing hacks but just reading through that storyline makes me yearn to play this. Anyways, I wish you the best of luck on this and I can't wait to see some progress, especially anything in the field of graphics as the idea of an archipelago gets me excited at just the thought :D

muff1n March 26th, 2009 2:14 AM

Although the idea is unique, I wouldn't want to start with a Clamperl.

aquadan March 26th, 2009 2:29 AM

::)

That's why you can catch other Pokémon. :|

But the idea you have here is brilliant, GOoMHPU!. Much like colcol, I'd love to see an archipelago-style game. :D

Piratite is back!!!!
OMG!
I so much support this!
Keep it up!

Well, Clamperl is altered in this game. Better stats, wider movepool, and an added evolution. I'm not sure if you remember the evolution that was made, but here it is:

Narquiem, the Northern Seas Pokemon.
Water/Ghost
Credit to Cowrie for the design

I've already mapped the first island for the most part. All I have left are the caverns.

Conan Edogawa March 26th, 2009 3:32 PM

I like the new evo for clamperl. And personally I think it's a great idea to start with one because
1) It's original
2) Clamperl is generally an unnoticed pokemon
3) I like Clamperl it's got a cool look to it.

aquadan March 27th, 2009 4:36 AM

I agree with Baseballscooper On his/her above comments
it would be awesome if there where 4 evos for it, something more....Clam-esque, with with high DEF.
narquiem, has a great design.

keep up the good work

indepth March 30th, 2009 11:35 AM

I don't think..

I don't think im going to want to read all that; but luckally I did, and I have to say:
I really do like this! If I saw some scripting, and images, I would support this 100%
Good luck progressing more..

luke March 30th, 2009 11:43 AM

Thanks for the compliments guys! The first island is basically mapped and done. Just need to do some scripting. Implemented Narquiem into the game - just waiting for the original artist to finish the sprite.

wingzro17 March 30th, 2009 1:56 PM

Well, I'm glad to see this revived.
Actually, this was my first hack I ever worked on too. :D(well at least one that made it in the progressing hacks section)
Well good luck with this, hope it goes far.

Conan Edogawa April 3rd, 2009 12:28 PM

I could help sprite if you need any help. I could do anything as long as I have some inspiration or anything to work off of.

GoldxLight April 3rd, 2009 1:53 PM

I could help sprite as well!

luke April 18th, 2009 8:17 AM

aha

Hi again. I got a new laptop in the time I haven't updated and am back to work. I should have some screenshots here shortly. I still could use a scripter.

Renyui! April 19th, 2009 2:18 AM

Hey!

Nice hack you got going here. I'm not much of a scripter, but I can do a bit of spriting and i'm an experienced Photoshopper, if you need any of those. BTW, I love your storyline, and the clamperl evo.
