Underleveled

Are most people underleveled by a few levels when they face the Elite Four? For example, in Platinum Cynthia's strongest pokemon is level 63, or something, but my strongest is level 58. The only way you can meet their levels are if you grind ALOT, and there's no fun in grinding too much.

Kenshin5 March 28th, 2009 4:46 PM

I usually get at least 3 of my pokes to 60 before I challenge the Elite 4.

Tyrantrum March 28th, 2009 4:48 PM

Well, I trained all of my Pokémon to 55 since it was lowered on this game.
Except for Gastroden, since it was traded from Diamond.

Glaceon_ March 28th, 2009 4:49 PM

It all actually depends on the number of Pokemon you have in your team, as you progress through the game. I played through I think Pearl in a Mono Type Duo Challenge, (I chose Fire types and used Typhlosion and Houndoom) and by the time I got to the Elite Four, I believe I was about Level 70; maybe a little less...

I'll assume that most people train at least 5 Pokemon; with that number of Pokemon in your team of which you actually plan on using, its rather likely that you'll be a bit under-levelled upon arriving at the Elite Four. A lot of the time, I usually get there at around Level 55+, but only after grinding up a few levels, beforehand.

At completion in D/P, I had Pokemon at Level 57 in the past, I believe. I can't recall what my team was like in my Japanese Platinum play-through...

Swift! March 28th, 2009 5:29 PM

I've only ever grinded my Pokemon once and that was to battle Koga in FireRed.
Grinding is fine with me if I need to do it to defeat someone, as long as there's a good place to grind.

The Fallen March 28th, 2009 5:33 PM

I'm usually always under-leveled when I get to the Elite Four. I try to give my whole party equal amount of battle time, thus no individual truly shines in the pack. But, I have a well rounded party. I believe my highest leveled Pokémon in Diamon was 55 when I completed the Elite Four.

Kokuo March 28th, 2009 5:42 PM

My strongest was 54 when I fought the E4 so yeah It's okay to be a little underleveled.

BHwolfgang March 28th, 2009 5:46 PM

I usually take my time to level my Pokémons.

If I had Platinum, then my party would consist of Pokémons with lv. 60-70 before I challenged the Elite 4.

Ryuzaki_Lawliet March 28th, 2009 5:51 PM

With my pokemon i really like to take my time.. I had all pokes about 80 when I challenged Cynthia. I wanted to make sure I had a team that could most likely win the match... and I did. I'm not saying underleveled is bad, I'm just saying I don't like to battle the E4 underlevled. You can do it if you want to.

Cyntric March 28th, 2009 6:55 PM

I don't mind grinding especially since I need to capture pokemon for the national dex so I am always ready for the Elite Four.

kingofjokers March 28th, 2009 6:58 PM

well i guess you have to train i was like lvl 62 because i trained 10 levels before the 7 gym

"Shadow Lugia" March 28th, 2009 7:00 PM

When I started the Elite Four battles, my entire team was at lv. 52. Before grinding, some were at lv. 52, while others were at lv. 51. I just grinded so all my Pokemon were at the same level. The Elite Four wasn't too difficult at those levels. The only problem was that some of their Pokemon had incredibly diverse movesets (Gliscor had all the elemental fangs, Magmortar had T-bolt etc.).

Ruphire March 28th, 2009 7:00 PM

I've noticed in this game, everytime I face my rival or a gym leader.
Their pokemon are like 4 levels higher but I still beat them.. Odd.
But because their pokemon are so high, it makes me want to go level up my team.
Which is what I'm doing now. I'm probably not going to do that for the Elite 4 though.
I'll just take Giratina with me and destroy them all! *Laughs evily*
But I'm mainly underleveld.

jakex March 28th, 2009 7:07 PM

Befor pastoria gym, i trained my pokes to lv 35, because my Alakazam was no match if it was lower than the opponents. I like to train, and the game is harder. The gym leaders always are easy, they changed it, they made them hard, the eterna leader was hard unless you had turtwig as starter and a high level starly. Just push through.

Boss March 28th, 2009 7:17 PM

What I typically do for each significant battle (Gym Leaders, Cyrus, etc.) is train all my Pokemon to the highest level Pokemon of the opposition. For the Elite 4, I usually train everyone up to Lv. 60 with a full team of six (save for my Pearl runthrough, where I used only Infernape, which was naturally up to Lv. 70-something).

Haza March 28th, 2009 7:19 PM

I was like 10 levels lower when I got to Cynthia so I got impatient and transfered my real Pokemon from Pearl.

salmence33 March 28th, 2009 7:23 PM

When I got there most of my pokemon were on level 45

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ March 28th, 2009 7:32 PM

I'm usually overleveled until the Elite Four, then my levels end up about 4-5 short of the Champion's highest. I was around 57-58 with 6 Pokemon in Pearl, and Bronzong was really the only major pain.

Working Class Hero March 28th, 2009 7:48 PM

Most of mine were. But I had a LvL 65 Empoleon and a LvL 64 Electivire. This is a rare occasion when I am a little bit over leveled. Usually I have a level 50 Pokemon and two legendaries and about, 30 Revives, Hyper Potions, and Full Heals. D:

Amaruuk March 28th, 2009 9:39 PM

I always like to keep all my Pokemon at the same levels, so I'm under-leveled basically throughout the game. Even though I grind sometimes, I'm always a bit lower and impatience wins over before I get to the levels I intend to before fighting a gym leader or the E4 or anything. I almost always win (can't remember any losses off hand), though, even when I send out a less-suited Pokemon into a fight just 'cause it needs a level-up.

.Ozymandias March 29th, 2009 7:15 AM

I tend to grind between 5 and 10 levels between each gym (depending on type advantages), then usually 6 between the last gym and the first elite four member.

carter756978 March 29th, 2009 7:24 AM

when i did the elite 4 on diamond my i had 1pokemon lv 38, 4 in the 40s and one lv 53

Yamikarasu March 29th, 2009 7:34 AM

You don't have to be scared of the Elite 4. >_>

As long as you have about 30 Hyper Potions and a few revives, you can win with a team in the 40s. Really, some of you people are sounding a little ridiculous, no offense. And if for some reason you really can't win, then you just keep battling them to get your levels up and before you know you'll win. You aren't supposed to be able to sweep the E4.

Q-Bone March 29th, 2009 7:38 AM

All six of my party Pokemon were only level 50 when I challenged the E4. It was very hard, well Cynthia was anyway; I had to challenge her twice.

st.jimmy March 29th, 2009 7:46 AM

i usually have solid lvl 50s except for 2 and thats the starter i choose asnd the legendeary and they are usually about lvl 69-ish.
iv never been completely outpowered by the elite-four though.
the toughest e4 where the b/r/y ones.
